shepard
in ME 1 never struck me at all as the gay type. his voice, actions, past
military history, even the way he is written doesnt even hint at the
gay type. thus i do not eblieve he will ever be writen as have a gay
relationship
as to why there are lesbians, it is because of the
simple fact that more people like lesbians than gays (yes im using gay
to describe only men sue me). show me a straight guy who wouldn't watch 2
chicks go at it and ill show you a liar. thus they are more accepted.
however gay related things are a sort of single market business. its as
simple as that.
DA:O was able to have both because your story
included a prequel, allowing you to define your charater from the start.
i garuntee had you chosen to be a famous grey warden for orlais you
wouldnt have had a gay/lesbian option.
Mass effect has no such
prequel story. you are an established character from a normal
family/ganglife/orphan home. no gay influence, thus no gay shepard.

You would not need a full editor, or something that can change everything only those things that can be choosen without doing a sidequest or without having high Paragon/Renegade points. Wrex needs a sidequest and a converstion check so if he survived Virmire should not be an option to select. But things like the council, the rachiini queen or Ash/Kaidan that were simply dialog choiches without a skill check could be made part of an editor. I think it would boil down to only five to six actual choices. But such an editor is generally a good idea because there will be players without a savegame because their console/computer died or who came late to the series and even for those with savegames an editor would increase replaybility.catabuca wrote...
Oh wait, so does ME2 'kill' Ash for fShep and Kaidan for mShep if you don't import? That is a very good point actually, and one I had totally overlooked (I've only played imported Sheps, all of whom saved Kaidan).
Well, yes, I think one of the reasons I'll never play a fresh ME2 game is the lack of control over ME1 decisions. I recognise perhaps BW could only go so far in a realistic way (without resorting to a screen full of check boxes just after facial reconstruction), but it was lacking.
I freely admit that doesn't make good sense for new players then, who haven't had the opportunity to save K/A. A technical reason rather than a story reason, but a reason nonetheless. That's not to say there couldn't be a way around it, but still. Woe.
(I'm still going to advocate it though, because it is my preferred method of implementing s/s.)

"The gay type"? Seriously?
What do you even say to a post like this?
Go back and read the rest of the thread. We've addressed all this many times before. And for the record, just because your Shepard is a 'he', doesn't mean all other players have the same Shepard.

1. There are badass manly men military guys who are gay. I'm guessing from your use of the term 'gay type' that you didn't know this. That's okay. Now you do.the_devils_aid wrote...

2. While it's true that many straight men enjoy watching two women make out, there are - in addition to gay men - a lot of straight women who enjoy watching two men make out. Women, as a market demographic, make up about 40% of gamers. All of which is in addition to those gamers who don't care either way, but who enjoy variety and seeing how different decisions play out, and who do not mind the idea of a male/male romance option. So m/m same-sex LIs aren't as single market as you indicate.
3. Not sure what you mean by 'gay influence,' since there's a) no need for other gay people to be present for a person to be gay themselves, and

Well, at that point he/she/it was still talking about what sells and what doesn't, so that actually made a certain amount of sense, it's not until the "no gay influence" thing that the deal really was sealed. I mean, aside from the fact that it makes zero logical sense to first argue marketing strategies and then plot logic as if the two were somehow the same thing.
I just love how some people believe homosexuality is something you catch from too many gay men looking at you. And trust me, in 2180, people will still believe this.

Quite right. That's how my lesbian aunt ended up gay, because my grandmother and grandfather were gay. Weird, my dad wasn't gay. He must have been raised by dogs.
