Why does this thread even exists?

Because many players are not satisfied with the romance options in the ME franchise so far and want more diversity for the romances in future DLC and Mass Effect 3.
And this thread is here to let Bioware know about this and to discus how same-sex romances should be implented.

I agree! There should be no need for a thread like this! See, Bioware? If you made ME1 and ME2 more inclusive, you wouldn't have upset Uzivatel! Please include same-sex romances in ME3 so that Uzivatel won't have to ask about the need for threads like this anymore!

Its not like people did not voice their opinions in those locked threads. Or in those 227 pages.

But what exactly is the point of the thread at the moment?

Well, some people are still discussing various issues related to s/s romances - quality, object, implementation, new vs. old LIs, etc.

And, if nothing else, it might keep the topic in sight long enough to prod a reasoned and relevant response from Hudson or Muzyka, as opposed to the 'third-person narrative' or 'Tali's romance needed to be light and fun' weirdness that they've served up so far.

To carry on talking about ways in which we'd like to see s/s content implemented. Every day someone has a new idea, a new person comes by the thread and pledges their support, and it's all good.

Why does that Tali love thread even exist? I mean, seriously, how many hundreds of pages?

BECAUSE THIS IS A FAN FORUM, WHERE FANS TALK ABOUT THE GAME THEY LOVE.

Let's be honest here - this thread's real purpose is to destroy family values, push the gay agenda and make baby Jesus cry.

I believe there is more about this game than dreaming about non-existent same-sex romances...

Are same sex romances in the game yet?
No.
If we all just stop talking about our desire for such a thing, Bioware will think "Oh, hey, no one wants same sex romance, so it is fine to not have it in ME3."
If we keep talking about it, it is far more likely that it will come to ME2, or ME3.

Yeah, right... totally going to happen. Preston Watamaniuk and Drew Karpyshyn are already rewriting the script... <_<

Who's a cute little buzzkill? You are! You are! *pinches uzivatel's cheek*

Seriously, though. If it happened for Tali and Garrus romance fans, it can happen for us. I'm not above accepting an m/m romance that's put in just to shut me up. :)

Ohh, sh... you are right. :o
If you see any thread demanding Chackwas lesbian romance, claiming the guys at BioWare are group of age discriminating fascists, thats me (and my 20 accounts).

Anyway, if the Tali/Garrus stuff is anything to go by, you should not expect much more than that.

I forgot, the best way to go about changing policies and corporate decisions you don't like is to bend over quietly and just take them. Thanks for reminding me, uzivatel! Brb, deleting my forum account.
<_<

As an aside - I keep hearing about Hendel in threads like this and the other day I was looking at the ME novel. Should I really pick them up? Because a lot of people 'round these parts seem to enjoy them, but buying game related novels make me really nervous :?

If this is something you're interested in pitching, feel free to make your home here. There are a number of people on the board who find Chakwas irresistible, and I know I've seen it mentioned several times here.

Also, it plays very nicely with the suggestion of opening existing characters who were not previously romanceable to the possibility of a s/s LI. Joker and Chakwas come up quite often.

like her, and would be perfectly fine with her as a lesbian option.
She is a good friend, and has a longer history with Shepard than Garrus does, so why not?

Same-sex or not, Dr. Chakwas needs some love. Not necessarily romantic love even, it breaks my heart talking to her, she seems so sad. There's not many parts of the game that make me shed a tear, but Dr. Chakwas and her Serrice Ice Brandy dialogue definitely get me choked up.

I believe the writers and designer behind games like KotOR or Mass Effect do know thing or two about how to create great game even without my help.
Sure, we all have some "good ideas" (like that 20-30 hour spin-off game I was thinking about the other day) and I do admit to post something here and there, but I think this thread is going too far - many people here are basically telling BioWare how to (re)write the story of ME2 or ME3.

And here I thought the whole Chakwas and Joker ME2 story was only a setting to put them together at the end of ME3.

My biggest fear was Ironic "Iconic" Shepard being mentioned in any way, but that didn't happen. Beyond that, they were enjoyable. In fact, same-sex romance was handled very well in both the ME and DA novels (for the most part, but I can't discuss what bothered me in the DA novel where it was featured without spoilers, but what bothered me could have been written for straight couple and it would have bothered me there too). It didn't involve the main protagonists, but there were no stereotypes with any of the characters. In fact, if the fact of their gayness wasn't firmly established, we would hear the same ridiculous "but he can't be gay because he kicks so much ass" style argument that keeps coming up about MShep or most of the potential love interests for him.

Because that doesn't happen in any other thread at all.

Anyway, if you look back in this thread, you will see that same-sex romances were not only already written, but voice acting for them was recorded. Mass Effect was already re-written to remove them. This thread isn't telling BW to re-write the story but letting them know that the re-writing they've already done isn't kosher.

And here's the thing... if you don't care about fixing ME in this manner, you can just not read the thread. I know I don't plan on shutting up about it, and I would bet money that most of the regular posters in this thread probably aren't going to shut up about it either. So if you don't think there's a need for this thread - well, just don't read it.

So, uzivatel, why exactly are you so against this thread existing?

Just because we are suggesting something we would like to be in the game?

Ok, annoying little thing. I personally think you're a cleverly disguised troll, but if you aren't... you're just incredibly ignorant. Since when was the Romance ever considered "the story of Mass Effect"? If anything, it's the one thing that is completely subject to the whims of the gamers. With so many love interests in BioWare games, it's the one thing that truly couldn't be made cannon. It doesn't affect the main plot (sadly) and it doesn't change how the game plays either... so by adding in different romance options, be they ss or new LIs... it won't change or "rewrite" the story of ME. If anything, this thread exists to show BioWare what a large portion of their fans would like to see from the few aspects that we truly feel to have completely control over.

We choose who Shep romances. We choose when to instigate that romance, whether or not to cheat, whether or not to try and double time... it's something that we get to do. So if some people feel that they aren't represented, or that they would like to see something that fits their taste... it's worth bringing up.
