I completely agree with the former, but whilst I'd certainly like the latter, it would be the equivalent of shattering the fourth wall. Suspension of disbelief would go out of the window.

I actually prefer my slash fic main guys to be gruff, abrasive and all around nasty. Makes for a much more delicious ship.

heck there's this long story called EDIT: Actually the story is "Special Forces" where the two guys are pretty much collossal douchebags. [Seriously the opening pages have one of the main characters seeking out an Iraqi woman for the purpose of pulling up her dress and seeing if her womanly parts are shaved with the expectation that she would be raped] I honestly wanted to take a gun and blow his brains out because he was so casual about it as if he wasn't a sick bastard that needed his eyes pulled out with plyers. (if only for the vast amounts of misogyny, homophobia, war, racism and all other nasty issues) and two guys (soliders anyway) in a love hate relationship.

It does get better at the end but heck it takes its sweet time getting there.

The Kray twins are rightly regarded as perhaps the most notorious gangsters in English history.

They were involved in armed robberies, protection rackets, arson, assault, torture and murder. At the same time as being - as respected nightclub owners - genuine celebrities in sixties London.

And Ronnie Kray was openly bisexual.

I guess its true. Beautiful and/or rich people can get away with damn near everything.

Though...his nose...it just...irks me.

Of course I'd never say that to his face but still.

And yeah I have to agree with slim on the whole "If I have to get hit on by someone of my own gender can they at least be attractive?"

Yeah, but as a plausible s/s love interest? To me he seems the least likely of anyone on your crew for this role. I know this is treading old ground here, but they need to be consistent with their characters in the game, and a guy that is half John Wayne and just exuding machismo - it just doesn't fit.

I do not see how it would not fit, as anyone, regardless of how they act, can be gay or bi.
But Zaeed's personality is the point. People would not be expecting it, and he would not be a stereotype of any sort.
That is part of the reason why everyone wanted Hendel as an option as well.

Samara has too much self control to change into a raging drunk. It goes against character traits. Zaeed being gay goes against nothing as he isn't a womanizer or even in a relationship.

Edit: Not to say a *extremely* talented writer could pull Samara being a raging drunk off well but it would be a heck more difficult than making Zaeed gay .

You mean half Marion Morrison, don't you   Seriously, I don't know what the male equivalent of a "lipstick lesbian" is, but there's lots of gay people out there who act just as masculine or feminine as others of their gender.

Richard the Lionhearted was the only Christian Saladin was said to respect.  There's a hundred stories about his bravery, but I always liked the one in which he was firing off a crossbow while being carried on a stretcher.  He died when shot by a young boy, who Richard applauded for his bravery before retiring to his tent to pull out the barbed bolt by himself (he pardoned the boy on his deathbed).  He was a great military leader back in the day when leaders were expected to be on the front lines leading the charge.  He was also a "right bastard", putting entire towns to the sword when they didn't surrender.  And he was definitely gay, probably had an affair with the Prince (later King) of France among others.

Edit--okies, you're talking about Zaeed, not gay men in general.  But still, I don't think you can tell.  I roomed with a lesbian for a year in college (I'm not, but don't care about the sexuality of anyone I'm not in a relationship with).  Ok, she was a bit butch (rugby), but her girlfriend was pretty girly.  Certain more so than FemShep

We don't know if he's a womanizer any more than we know he's gay. But honestly, which do you think is more plausible?



*note - I'm not saying homosexuality denotes a certain personality type, I'm thinking of the in-game personalities of the characters.

Zaeed. A womanizer? Really?  I'd find both of them unlikely. Zaeed seems to type to just throw somebody down when he feels the need to get off.

And how does his personality denote his sexuality? He's an ass. That doesn't make you gay or straight that just makes you an ass.
