If they were to introduce it in such a crude and forceful way, then I'd agree with you that they are actually changing characters.Collider wrote...
Nope. It is retconning because they are suddenly acting in a way they never did, in the same game. Having them be open to the same sex in ME3 is not retconning.PyroFreak301 wrote...
Surely you'd be just as hard pressed to claim retconing then?Incorrect. If DLC or a patch was released where in Jacob's second conversation, which occurs early in game, he says that male shepard is totally sexy, that would be retconning. Before the DLC or patch, he did not say it, it altered his sexuality as well as personality.nothing's technically being changed apart from your interpretation of the original conversation, which of course is subjective.
Would you feel the same way if the conversation was exactly the same, only there was another dialogue wheel option added to allow you to initiate the flirting? This way you have FULL control over whether you hear it or not, and characters only get expanded upon rather than changed.

It's not retconning unless something is set in stone, as far as I can tell none of the characters are completely set in stone
That being said however there are certain characters who are more likely candidates and who it would make more sense for them
Kaidan, Ashley, Thane, and Tali are all part of this, since originally they were supposed to be bisexual
Kaidan and Ashley especially, since the romances were implemented even further than the ones in ME2, Ashely in particular had a fully animated sex scene with fem shep that can be unlocked throught modding
Tali being Bi is a bad idea. Her people probably look down on that for the sole reason of reproduction. They survive (harshly).

Story-wise, they try to exile as a part of a political show.
Metagame-wise, plenty of males play a femShep and wanted her as a romance. A same sex romance DLC would be successful as long as it included a Tali/femShep romance (as well as a M/M romance).

It would be for me. I don't play as femshep and don't ever plan on it. Nor am I pathetic enough to buy some content and then play through the game as a female just so I can see "lesbian content". I don't think i know anyone that bad aside from whats her face in here.DaeJi wrote...
For another, lesbians are not a hard sell to a male fanbase
The man on man DLC content would appeal to an even smaller userbase than f/f would.
Basically both options would appeal to a segmented amount of the userbase and it is likely not worth Bioware's time or money to release anything that everyone is not going to be able to enjoy.

But she didn't seem to care too much about that when she was pouncing on Manshep. She can't reproduce with him, either.

How do you know?? You're just assuming it wouldn't appeal to the fanbase without giving us hard facts or statistics to prove your point. I could just say that if they put Shepard in a gorilla suit it would increase sales and the majority of the fanbase would like it. See how stupid that is?

Thermal clips were invented after ME1, not while Shepard was in a coma. Read the manual booklet included with the game. Its based on Geth technology. Does anyone read the manual?

You would not be in the majority of male gamers; lots of them love lesbians.
The man on man DLC content would appeal to an even smaller userbase than f/f would.
As I just said, any DLC that includes a femShep/Tali romance would sell, even with M/M content.
Basically both options would appeal to a segmented amount of the userbase and it is not really worth Bioware's time or money to release anything that everyone is not going to be able to enjoy.
Any DLC is not a sure sell; there are many gamers who do not even use any kind of DLC. I see no reason why a same sex romance DLC would do any better or worse than any other DLC content; not to mention that BioWare could charge people for this. All the DLC released and announced so far for Mass Effect 2 is free for the most part. Along that logic, a same sex romance DLC would be make BioWare the most money of all the DLC released for Mass Effect 2 so far.

Right and this is magically made standard and Shep knows about it before going into a coma?
Suure. :innocent:
Also isn't there a like 3 months at best between ME1 ending and ME2 prologue?
You're telling me this A. Is developed B. Is tested and commerialized and C. Military standard by then? Really?
Not to mention isolated colonists magically having them as well.

A map does not alter the story. Adding new missions and a new character (all planned for Mass Effect 2) does. Your example is faulty. Mass Effect 2 is not yet finished, and BioWare know his, are okay with it, and are adding content to make it a more finished product.
Enough of this already. Of course the game is finished. Adding DLC missions at a later date does not make the game "unfinished". That is just adding additional things, that does not involve changing existing things.

Comparable to ADDING additional romance options, wouldn't you say? It wouldn't be changing things if your Shepard had to initiate it.danman2424 wrote...

Games are released incomplete or unpolished all the time. It's through DLC that developer's are given the opportunity to increase game performance or add features to an existing storyline. An example is Bayonetta, and the load times patch for PS3

That is called feeling entitled. Bioware doesn't owe you "fairness" as you claim.Ninja Mage wrote...
danman2424 wrote...
There you go with this entitlement crap again. They don't "deserve" anything from Bioware. Bioware made a choice that bests suits the majority of consumers. Bioware is not required to include every which preference or desire for you because it's "fair".
It has nothing to do with entitlement. It has to do with being fair to a portion of the fanbase that expects to be treated equally like the rest.
