I wouldn't mind a new character either. I'd take anything
I don't mind them adding it to a pre-existing character though. Again, they added romance to Tali and Garrus that was not even hinted at in ME1. You can't even flirt with them in that game.
To add a different perspective, Shepard can flirt with Samara in ME2 but it doesn't lead to anything. Now, if they add a Samara romance in ME3, they would have set it up nicely in the previous game (like they didn't for Garrus/Tali). Does the Garrus/Tali ME2 romance from out of the blue bother me? No. I'ts good to add more options, IMO.

I was under the impression most people wanted Garrus/Thane/Tali/Jack as the main ones. I just fear that new characters will get Zaeed style conversation where there's no real interaction between the player and character.
My gay Warden was more attracted to Alistar than Zevran, but I was still grateful to BioWare for including him as a male LI. It's better than nothing....DaeJi wrote...

To be fair, absolutely no one in the game comes off as gay, especially not Commander Shepard. I think that's what would make it even more strange and funny to picture him engaged in these acts.
