It feels so wrong to me not to be able to say "Nothing personal Jacob, but I'm just not into guys" It's maddening...

Agreed. At least he isn't as bad as Kaidan was. When he did that hurt 'you've led me on' thing I wanted to punch him.

Actually I like the way it went with Kaiden and my Shep.

Basically he's like "Well commander... if you're... I mean if you're a.."
"My relations are my business, Kaiden"
"Well there's my answer"

At least that's how I remember it going, it kinda made me lawl.

Yeah, only way to avoid that seems to be to not engage him in any sort of conversation, and then let him die a horrible death on Virmire. Apologies to all Kaidan fans.

lol, I do remember telling him "I saw her first" in regards to Liara. It was pretty hilarious.

I see just a little bit of a conflict with how Bioware could implement same-sex romance in Mass Effect, and the conflict lies in the conversation wheel. Paragon being top right and renegade being bottom right. Where would the dialogue option for same-sex romance be located? Top right implies it's nice or "right" to do so, and bottom right implies it's risky or "wrong". Placing it up or down implies a lot and can potentially bring the game a lot of negative attention from both sides.
'
However, Liara and/or Kelly both have flirty options on the top right, so this entire "controversial" angle of mine falls apart. Well it was good mental exercise.

What BioWare could do is expand the wheel beyond six choices to seven or eight and stick romance dialog of any kind at the top.

I would have totally ignored him... except it would have meant missing this line. Which is pure gold.

They could just do what Star Wars games do. Bioware is even familiar with it from KOTOR. Light Side or in Mass Effects case Paragon is always cannon. Granted by having the Renegade option in 2 being the default they kind of already went against it. However Is not too late to fix such things.

But with Star Wars there is an established timeline. Bioware has already promised that no decision in Mass Effect is more canon than the others.

Top right implies it's nice or "right" to do so, and bottom right implies it's risky or "wrong". Placing it up or down implies a lot and can potentially bring the game a lot of negative attention from both sides.

I would actually like to see two alternate romance lines for Paragon and Renegade - good and bad boy/girl approaches, with some characters only responsive to one, and others to both.

Besides we've already covered the Asari, the creators insist they're female and they seemingly reproduce via parthenogensis like all-female species of lizards.

The asari method of parthenogenesis is quite unique to their species, and completely fictional to boot. Real all-female species do exist, but they don't use psychic powers in their reproduction. ;)

The central convo options are the "morally neutral" ones so that would be the least controversial place for them.
Plus, if they do the color coding, they could always be left center the way blue options are always left top and red are left bottom.
Similarly they could just make a relationship lead-in question that takes the convo to a new dialogue wheel where you can choose between romantic, friendly, professional, or antagonistic convo options.
That way we'd have some more control over how the interactions go and wouldn't have to deal with the current habit of...
Shep: "So miranda... let's talk about you."
miranda: [gets naked]
Shep:

The Consort raped my gay Shepard when he wasn't satisfied with her "affirmation".  All I wanted was some credits, but I got a sex scene.  Geee, thanks BioWare.

Unfortunately a group (which we do have ;)) lacks the potential for civil debate. It's all a bit... one sided in there lol.

True an open forum has more potential for trolling and heated convos, but one of our goals is to make this a topic for open discussion between everyone. Particularly those who have an argument against the idea. Without their input, we can't add any new perspective or formulate our request in a way that satisfies a larger portion of the fanbase.

Who knows, maybe it's futile, but we still want to get Biowares attention on the topic and show them that it could be done and that the fans would support them.

Indeed! The FAQ at the front of this thread wouldn't be what it is without the civil debates and community discussion from this thread's predecessors. Interestingly, this thread has had fewer novel discussions with folks with differing opinions, or new conclusions to draw from them.

At least among the more frequent visitors in the thread it seems that many of us have understandable attachments to existing Mass Effect characters (Kaidan, Tali, Thane and Jack seem to win for same-sex romance appeal, although Arik's posted some good Jacob eye candy).

On the prospect of a wholly new character, most of us seem to prefer a "masculine" warrior type. That about right?

I think this sounds like the best option. You take a conversation to a certain point and the option 'Romance?' appears on the wheel. Choosing that then takes you to a new set of options (a flirt wheel I believe someone once described it as). My only worry is that this may feel a little... artificial?

Actually, I've always thought integrating Paragon/Renegade into LI choice could work well. After all some relationships are tender and caring whilst some are intense and fiery.

Jack was a cop out, she spends half the game outright saying she's slept with women before and then she's like "Leave me alone, Shepard, I'm not into girls!". That TEASE!

Ink. Attitude. Bi-leaning dialogue.

All as a come on to the Mansheps?

Yes, Jack is the intergalactic Megan Fox.

Ninja I believed we already agreed, as a group, that we would refrain from posting pictures like this, since it clogs up the thread and makes it hard for people to take us seriously, on top of that, we could end up getting locked if that happens

No need to thank me:  thank Google images and Megan Fox for actually shaving her head.  Apparently, she's doing a remake of Alien Nation.
