Wow only last week I was reading over the planning for this in group, then I miss a few days and find the thread running with tons of pages already. Good grief talk about being late to the party

Anyway just popping in to voice my support for this 100%, I'll say a few things (and it may become a long post because of it) but the majority of what I would've said has already been mentioned multiple times by many others so I'll try to keep it short and sweet- that and I'm at work too so I better not take too long
I think the MxM option for Kaiden, Garrus & Thane should be made available via DLC as should the FxF for Tali & Jack; that way it will level things out for both genders across two games. If not DLC, then at least an optional patch that would be seen as official when carried over to ME3; that way when they go through ME3 development they can take into consideration which gender flags were tweaked in ME2 in order to have a fully working s/s scene (or confrontation scene if the player cheated!) It can be seen already that from some of the acquired dialogue people have found on the discs that Bioware has at least done some if not ¾ the work for s/s romances, as some have already suggested it just needs a few more lines and perhaps some animation tweaks to have a fully functioning romance for those of us who wish for this.
Just to clarify, the reason I only used existing characters for this is because in my eyes it may be a lot easier to work with characters that we know/have grown to know throughout the game rather than dumping a brand new dlc character into the mix. Sure, a new character would be great too and many of us wouldn’t mind the said option, but for the sake of my post my reasoning earlier is why I didn’t include them in this.
If the said characters were unlocked for s/s romances then the following should be true in theory (correct me if I’m wrong):
Hetero M!Shep LI’s: Ashley, Liara, Tali, Miranda & Jack
Total: 5*
Hetero F!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Jacob, Thane & Garrus
Total: 4**
Bisexual M!Shep LI’s: Liara, Ashley, Tali, Jack, Miranda, Kaiden, Garrus & Thane
Total: 8*
Bisexual F!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Liara, Tali, Jack, Thane, Garrus & Jacob
Total: 7*
Homosexual M!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Garrus & Thane
Total: 3*
Homosexual F!Shep LI’s: Liara, Tali & Jack
Total: 3*
* Excluding Kelly, Morinth & Samara etc as they are not true romance options for the Paramour achievement. That and no doubt they won’t be anything more in ME3/they killed you/their code said no.
** Excluding Liara as it would be seen as FxF from F!Shep’s POV despite Asari being mono gendered. I personally see their outer looks to be identical to that of a female hence why I left her out of the equation, but if you choose to think otherwise then by all means say she is an option for F!Shep and round her LI pool to 5.
Already it can be seen above that no matter which way you slice it or how you play your shepard, you will always have something available to you during the play through. I added the Bi options there just to show how many options both Sheps would have in this game and you have to admit- it’s nice to have a bigger pickings pool surely! Hetero and Bi Shep will still have much more options than Homosexual Shep, so talk about being spoiled for choice. But at least this way it’s practically a win/win situation for all ME lovers no matter their preference on LI’s.
The only problem I see at the moment for this idea is Kaiden. I can’t see them releasing a patch or something now for ME1 to make him an option for M!Shep (if they do that would be pretty damn awesome), so maybe the picture frame idea taken from the first page of the thread could work here? Right now that’s the only viable way I can see it working without having to wait for ME3.
I know a lot of people have already stated they won’t feel comfortable talking to a character that has a chance to ‘jump their bones’ so to speak, but again as many have already said previously-
it’s up to the player to choose that option in order for the flirting/romance to play out. And again, the colour coding suggestion would work a treat here to warn players of what that option will do. And if accidentally chosen, there’s always the “I’m not interested” dialogue option afterwards to stop it going any further and locking indefinitely. Though I admit, I myself don't really want colour coding as the general summary should give away enough to show whats about to be said; but hey, if this is the only way then so be it.
Once more, I will say I fully support this and hope Bioware takes it into account!
