Some seem concerned that s/s through DLC would be condescending or even exploitative. But the sheer power of the pink dollar/pound has been a massive influence on social change in the last half century. Why should video games be any different?

My real concerns are firstly, the media portrayl (sadly I can see it now - "Bioware plans gay rape DLC" Posted Image) and secondly - and I don't think I've heard anyone actually giving a definitive answer on this one - is it even feasible?

Well aslong as the DLC is free a relaese statement along the lines of :
"We have been planning to include these romances in the original game but due to time constrains we were not able to produce them with the quality that our customers expect from us and so we held them back until they were finished and release them now. "
could work and generate mainly positive feedback by professional reviewers,  (the inevitable complaints in forums would soon be over and forgotten). And the unprofessional scandal-mongers well let them generate free publicity, it did not hurt ME1 and wont hurt ME2.

I can be fairly certain that even references, let alone comparisons to bestiality or childporn aren't welcome in this forum. Be good, and leave those out for good.

Wellaslong as the DLc is free a relaese statement along the lines of :

Unfortunately the initial dev comments concerning homosexual options make that possibility quite unlikely. They make the DLC option in itself rather unlikely, but if it does manifest, I suspect that it's going to be much later down the line, and probably not a part of the Cerberus Network, but some bigger extra missions package.

I will admit that child porn was going too far, didn't quite think it through. But I do stand by the beastiality comparison. I would much rather have sex with an animal than with another man. Same thing goes for watchin.

Somehow I believe this information reflects worse upon you than it does on homosexuality.
Just saying.

I think they would develop it alongside another bigger nonfree-DLC, but relase it as free stand-alone DLC with the cerberus network and the social site they have the infrastructure ready. Making it cost money directly or indirectly would negate any postive publicity while even generating more negative feedback by both the pro- and contra s/s groups.
But yea it is unlikely that anything will happen regarding  ME2, but one can still hope.

Its too bad theres no known treatment for that because a vast majority were victims themselves. :( Tis a self fulfilling cycle and a sad one. I feel more sympathy then anger. (Well to the molestors anyways, the out and out rapists and murders need a bullet to the brain).

Though Anyone have any high res pics with Kaidan and Shep in the same scene or heck something with Shepard and Kaidan smiling? Individually? Without anyone in the way. I really want to make some smiling longily at each other banners.

I like the idea of selecting orientation at character creation. It could even be a thing you could change, like the difficulty. I think it is a good COMPROMISE between the two opinions. That way, gay people can be gay, and anyone uncomfortable with homosexuality isn't displeased by the game. No one is bending over backwards, and no one is getting it all their way. This is the most level headed, considerate arguement I have heard from either side.

That is why the suggestion made it into our FAQ as an option, even though not all of us favour it. (myself included) I am curious, though: is it truly preferable to you that you be asked every time you start a game "Are you heterosexual? Yes/No" versus having the opportunity to never follow the romance lead-in dialogue with a same-sex colleague during play?

Some people are as disgusted by ****** stuff as others are by .... There is no need to get pissy at them, that is just how they are wired.

I choose not to quote the inflammatory falce equivalence in your initial post. Those of you who make this argument don't seem to realize that many gay and lesbian people are just as grossed out by explicit heterosexual sex. Similarly, just as you are not attracted to men, gay and lesbian people are just as much not attracted to persons of the different sex. Fortunately, BioWare isn't making any explicit material: we're talking about subplots in these games that explore the personal emotional and romantic attachments of Commander Shepard and his/her companions.

I may be repulsed by heterosexual sex, but I can still get warm fuzzies when my straight and bi friends or colleagues find happiness with someone. I enjoy love stories that involve different or same-sexed couples equally. (The private elements of whatever physical intimacies are involved is none of my business and I've never felt the need to imagine them.) While this is true, it is also true that it's very disheartening that everywhere one looks in our media there are over-abundant examples of heterosexual couples. We see them everywhere, but very rarely are we presented with any equivalent media that includes people like us (even more rarely are people like us presented in relationships of equivalent depth or casual comfort as the "straight" ones are portrayed). The "don't show me gayness" argument comes across as bewildering strange to us, because we are perpetually bombarded with the opposite.

BioWare is a game developer that gives its players choices, and has transcended Nonexistent Gays Syndrome before, and that has drawn us to their products.

I support this feature, for all romances (straight or gay), simply because it will make it easier to have a friendship with a crewmate without sliding into the romance zone. The dialog could even be the same as the non-romance dialog with the same response, the point is that it raises the flag.

They need to do something with the romance options. I'm a guy who always uses femsheps and I don't mind her being friends with a male crewman but when she talks to them she sounds like she is going to drag them into her cabin. I just want Tali!

Wow only last week I was reading over the planning for this in group, then I miss a few days and find the thread running with tons of pages already. Good grief talk about being late to the party Posted Image

Anyway just popping in to voice my support for this 100%, I'll say a few things (and it may become a long post because of it) but the majority of  what I would've said has already been mentioned multiple times by many others so I'll try to keep it short and sweet- that and I'm at work too so I better not take too long Posted Image

I think the MxM option for Kaiden, Garrus & Thane should be made available via DLC as should the FxF for Tali & Jack; that way it will level things out for both genders across two games. If not DLC, then at least an optional patch that would be seen as official when carried over to ME3; that way when they go through ME3 development they can take into consideration which gender flags were tweaked in ME2 in order to have a fully working s/s scene (or confrontation scene if the player cheated!) It can be seen already that from some of the acquired dialogue people have found on the discs that Bioware has at least done some if not ¾ the work for s/s romances, as some have already suggested it just needs a few more lines and perhaps some animation tweaks to have a fully functioning romance for those of us who wish for this.

Just to clarify, the reason I only used existing characters for this is because in my eyes it may be a lot easier to work with characters that we know/have grown to know throughout the game rather than dumping a brand new dlc character into the mix. Sure, a new character would be great too and many of us wouldn’t mind the said option, but for the sake of my post my reasoning earlier is why I didn’t include them in this.

If the said characters were unlocked for s/s romances then the following should be true in theory (correct me if I’m wrong):

Hetero M!Shep LI’s: Ashley, Liara, Tali, Miranda & Jack
Total: 5*

Hetero F!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Jacob, Thane & Garrus
Total: 4**

Bisexual M!Shep LI’s: Liara, Ashley, Tali, Jack, Miranda, Kaiden, Garrus & Thane
Total: 8*

Bisexual F!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Liara, Tali, Jack, Thane, Garrus & Jacob
Total: 7*

Homosexual M!Shep LI’s: Kaiden, Garrus & Thane
Total: 3*

Homosexual F!Shep LI’s: Liara, Tali & Jack
Total: 3*

* Excluding Kelly, Morinth & Samara etc as they are not true romance options for the Paramour achievement. That and no doubt they won’t be anything more in ME3/they killed you/their code said no.

** Excluding Liara as it would be seen as FxF from F!Shep’s POV despite Asari being mono gendered. I personally see their outer looks to be identical to that of a female hence why I left her out of the equation, but if you choose to think otherwise then by all means say she is an option for F!Shep and round her LI pool to 5.

Already it can be seen above that no matter which way you slice it or how you play your shepard, you will always have something available to you during the play through. I added the Bi options there just to show how many options both Sheps would have in this game and you have to admit- it’s nice to have a bigger pickings pool surely! Hetero and Bi Shep will still have much more options than Homosexual Shep, so talk about being spoiled for choice. But at least this way it’s practically a win/win situation for all ME lovers no matter their preference on LI’s.

The only problem I see at the moment for this idea is Kaiden. I can’t see them releasing a patch or something now for ME1 to make him an option for M!Shep (if they do that would be pretty damn awesome), so maybe the picture frame idea taken from the first page of the thread could work here? Right now that’s the only viable way I can see it working without having to wait for ME3.

I know a lot of people have already stated they won’t feel comfortable talking to a character that has a chance to ‘jump their bones’ so to speak, but again as many have already said previously- it’s up to the player to choose that option in order for the flirting/romance to play out. And again, the colour coding suggestion would work a treat here to warn players of what that option will do. And if accidentally chosen, there’s always the “I’m not interested” dialogue option afterwards to stop it going any further and locking indefinitely. Though I admit, I myself don't really want colour coding as the general summary should give away enough to show whats about to be said; but hey, if this is the only way then so be it.

Once more, I will say I fully support this and hope Bioware takes it into account!  Posted Image

As far as changing established (and by established I mean that actually made it into the final cut of the game) characters goes you can all take a long walk off a short pier.
Kaiden/Thane/Garrus all straight. You don't like it, tough ****.

The fact that there were some scenes mocked up that some sad act has gone and rooted around for mean absolutely nothing. What was "intended" is NOT relevant, only what was "implemented". IMO Muzyka's post, although veiled, made it abundantly clear that we will NOT see homomance in any ME game.
When you hit the sentence where he contrasts ME to DA, the whole article makes a lot more sense. If you are contrasting against a game that HAS the option, it stands to reason the other game WON'T have the option.

As previously stated, if Bioware were to include a gay character in ME3, I'd be fine with that. I mean there are gay people in the world, it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that Shepherd could meet a gay man. But you clowns lose all my support when you talk about changing current characters, just back the **** off and leave them and their ESTABLISHED backstories alone. You'd get a lot more support that way.

I would love a same sex romance option in the Mass Effect universe. I always play my Shepards gay, be they male or female, and so far they haven't gotten much action. Femshep isn't really the cradle robber type so she's got issues with romancing Liara and Manshep is tired of loving all the wrong people. If only Kaidan and Joker would see how he looks at them -_-

As for ME2, Manshep is still alone, but then he's busy working out his own issues. I just wish Garrus or Jacob would help him out with that release of tension and all. And all that while Femshep ended up mortally embarrassed over Kelly's idea of a good time. Considering *that* is the only even vaguely non-straight option, I'm not sure I *want* to see what else the devteam comes up with.
