I had to get the screenies off of youtube though. And youtube is horrible at picture quality.
These days you can increase the rez of many YouTube vids to 480p or even 720p; quite good quality even on a big screen. I'll have a look.

Well, here's Kaidan and here's Ashley. You can get both up to 720p - the resolution of XBox 360. See how they'll look, for starters.

I was thinking about Jack's dialogue a bit, earlier. Several pages back in this thread folk got to talking about disappointment over her not being enabled as a bi option, considering how she tells Shepard about not having a "girlfriend or boyfriend" and her past experiences. For any new character, I think something like Jack's monologue is the best way of introducing same-sex love interest potential without dealing with the tired "I like people of my own gender, is that OK with you?" drama. Jack brings it up casually, matter-of-fact and that's that. It's no big deal. (The bigger deal is that female Shepard cannot make clear that she doesn't want shopping-gossip style "girl stuff", but rather smooches.)
Hypothetical example to illustrate what I'm talking about:
(Shepard recruits Sven the rugged mercenary. Later, back on the Normandy, they chat.)
mShepard: Tell me how you got to be a mercenary, Sven.
Sven: Believe it or not, I was dating this guy who was in the Blue Suns. I signed on as a freelancer with them so that we didn't have to be separated for months at a time whenever his squad took a contract. We drifted apart after awhile, but it turned out I was really good at the job and I just kept at it. Never joined a company though: I like the freedom of freelancing.
mShepard: Do you have a special someone now?
Sven: Nah, it's really hard finding guys who are OK with the interstellar life of danger thing.
Conversation Wheel Options for Shep: Good luck with that. | I'm available... | I have to go.

I think the picture frame idea is a good one, and would make an ME3 romance with Kaidan a reasonable possibility without retconning the past games. Kaidan seems like a duty-bound guy; it's not unreasonable to assume he'd leave approaching a romance until after the universe is safe (or until it looks like everyone's really doomed, I suppose). (trimmed lots of good stuff)
The only problem I see at the moment for this idea is Kaiden. I can’t see them releasing a patch or something now for ME1 to make him an option for M!Shep (if they do that would be pretty damn awesome), so maybe the picture frame idea taken from the first page of the thread could work here? Right now that’s the only viable way I can see it working without having to wait for ME3.
Nice post, Katsaurs. You covered a lot of ground there.
I doubt we'll be seeing Mass Effect 2 DLC relating to the love interests from the original, alas; they're probably saving that for their love triangle scheme in ME3. The exception would be the rumoured ME: Revelation tie-in DLC, but that still wouldn't leave room for those pining for Kaidan. Hopefully in ME3 they'll give us the "I never told you how I feel about you, Kaidan" option to catch up on lost time. As you point out, BioWare could handle all the rest with ME2 DLC or expansion content. I hope they do.
This sounds excellent, and I would love to see something like this implemented. Casual mention, no big deal made, just a guy and his life, and at the same time makes it clear where a potential LI is. Nicely done.tyddrwsau wrote...

Cool, thanks! Maybe when I get off work, i can take a stab at some screenshot captures for you all. Should i post them in the fftl group? Rather than here?
As mentioned in the FAQ, Shepard is NOT "his" own character. He or she is a highly customizable character, who is already able to purse same-sex relationships if female.handheld wrote...
Handheld himself however realizes that shepard is his own character and bioware has made this clear,
It's terribly one-sided, I thought that was clear from my post. Shepard is a customizable character in many different ways, except for MaleShepard's sexuality. That should change.Images wrote...
Arik7 The point isn't what IS, but what should be and what people hope for the third installment. And besides, you don't remotely think thats a little one sided allowing girl on girl action but no male counterpart?

Of note, for anyone who listens to the Idle Thumbs podcast. On the newest episode, they briefly spoke about the romances and lack of same sex romances in ME2.

Though I'm sick of the whole "Heterosexual men will be playing this
game!" and what? Heterosexual men are utterly incapable of dealing with
gay characters without their heads exploding? Surely they realize
females not only have to deal with lesbian fanservice (Kelly) but plain
fetish fuel Miranda, Samara, Jack (Jacob was a fine attempt to balance
it out...even if he looks utterly ridculous) constantly.
Seriously
those "heterosexual males" that feel so threatened by a gay character
need to grow the hell up. Or mature. Which ever one comes first.
And honestly it boggles the mind why big names wonder why their female fanbase is so bloody small. Why do you think?
Its
a self fulfilling prophecy. They assume mostly men play their games
-> Place a whole bunch of fanservice for men in it -> turns some
females who would usually
play the game off -> marginalizes or otherwise reduce the female
characters importance in the story -> turn more female gamers off
->resulting in their fanbase mostly being male.
At least
with bloody Nintendo I don't have to worry about a girl in bloody
bikini armor most of the time. And JRPGs (to me at least) are somewhat
good at equalizing fanservice. For every girl in bikini armor there's
usally a good looking guy who isn't "Mr. Buff guy that's stoic and
unemotional #90000"
I'm sick of playing second fiddle to the
teenage boys (regardless of the fact that they're a smaller portion of
gamers than 21+ females. Go bloody figure.) and their "oooh
bewbs!" maturity level.
Not to mention their "HAHAHAHAHAHA!
You don't have a HDTV!" after they begged their mother to buy the TV
and the console for them.
"No I don't you twit. I'm 10 thousand dollars in debt and in college you moron."
...Ugh.

Actually I'm getting a bit fed up
with the whole 'sex scene as big payoff before the final mission'
thing. In fact, whilst I wasn't overly keen on the character of Samara,
I thought the curtailed romance with her - even though it did rather
feel as if it came out of nowhere - was well written and genuinely
affecting. It proved that you can have good romances without unconvincing CGI grinding.

Preach it, sister. For serious. That's why I have much respect for Bioware; they aren't perfect, there is still plenty to improve in this particular department (hence the topic), but at least they TRY. Sure, they have catered to the "lawl bewbs ********" crowd, but they haven't completely ignored the other side of the coin either.
And, to the bolded part....I started playing Heavy Rain last night and could not, for the life of me, figure out what I was doing because the text was SOOOO tiny on my crappy little TV. I had to stop but not knowing what happened is killing me. I want a fancy TV....<_<

I couldn't agree more. I'm a heterosexual man and I wouldn't want to go anywhere near a MM romance with my Shephard but think it is very unfair that it isn't an option for those that want it.
Best of luck with getting Bioware to change their mind on this.
