 :lol:Go learn history and dont post bull**** like this. I mean history not a hollywood movies

"In the mid Republic homosexual acts were widely accepted, if the active
partner was a Roman, and the passive partner a slave or non-Roman.
Deviations from this pattern were morally condemned, but apparently had
few legal consequences. Martial and Plautus describe a wide range of
homosexual behaviors, in part to poke fun at them like other minor
standard deviations, but without too much moralizing. On the other hand,
there is also from the year 108 an indictment against C. Vibius
Maximus, a Roman officer in Egypt who had a sexual relationship with a
young nobleman."

There.  Now, can we move on?

*sigh* Don't Ask Don't Tell is currently under investigation, and given our current president's views on the matter, it's doubtful the program will continue past his presidency, nevermind 175 years into the future. You also realize that views concerning homosexuality have changed continually over the years, right? Ancient Greeks and Romans used to encourage same-sex relations amongst their soldiers because they believed it strengthened the bonds between them and that a man would fight harder to protect someone he cared about.

Obama cannot repeal DADT with an executive order.  It's going to take an Act of Congress to do so, and that definitely isn't happening any time soon.

As for the Ancient Greeks and Romans, I wish clueless people would stop using them as an example for acceptance of gays Posted Image

Case in point, in the early Republic, the Romans recommended execution for men who forced themselves on young freeborn boys (Lex Scantinia), and publically beating to death freeborn men that engaged in consentual "sex" with each other (Supplicium Fustuarium).  Passive homosexuality was also grounds for a great deal of mockery and disdain in Roman culture.

And in the later stages of the Empire when Rome became Christian......well, I shouldn't need to say any more on that..

As for the Greeks, there was greater tolerance, but there were plenty of stipulations as well.

All in all, there is far greater tolerance of homosexuality today than there was in the Ancient World I'd say.

DADT does not apply to Mass Effect. Neither do Greek and Roman history. Please do not use these to support or discredit arguments, as they have no bearing on the topic. You're welcome to use precedents set in the Mass Effect games, and precedents set in other Bioware games are applicable too. Real-life politics are not.

Actually there is already a bi-partisan bill in the Senate to repeal this.

There's a greater tolerance of pretty much everything except things that serve to place the minority or weaker people down pretty much all around today.

So Yeah. Present > Past unless you were a rich white roman male, or a ruler. I'm not so don't care.

The past should never be looked as something to move forward. We moved away from it for a reason. <_<

Though I do believe DADT is going to repealed soon. Conservative America is slowly but surely becoming the minority. Thank the goddess for that. <_< Maybe soon we'll be able to have video games with an actual sex scene in them without some moron's head exploding. "Oh noes! Bare butt! 'T world is ending! Oh noes!!!!"

Honestly if in 2012 all the bloody conservatives in America just vanished I'd be a very happy camper.

Anyways on topic:

M!Shep x Kaidan...new banners are in the group linked in my sig.

If anyone wants .gifs (I.E. sliding images) just tell me which images you want for the gif and I'll do it for you. ^_^

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a thread about ancient history or the United States military policies (no matter how silly). Lets stick to the topic, or risk being locked for not talking about Mass Effect.

Ugh. I'm moving. :pinched: I can't stand this country any more. Too much "I know what's better for everybody else!" going on here for my tastes.Miss the old days of "I'll mind my business and you mind yours."  When (and at this point its a when) this country goes to the dogs I hope I'm across the ocean laughing my ass off. Between the greedy corporations, the ridculous goverment and the constant and somewhat growing agitation of the average people...lulz will be had.

Anyways. Jade Empire handled the gay romance in a way that the only way you could activate it would be by rejecting all the hetero romances. THat would at least keep the homophobes from seeing it because I doubt many of them would even bother rejecting all the female characters.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I do wish I had been able to be a part of it from the begining.  I msyelf am bisexsual, and I have played through both Mass Effect 1 and 2 multiple times by now.  Usually I play a female Shepard and my brother plays a male, so I get to see both sides of the fence so to speak.

I felt pretty silly and a bit downgraded in the second game by being able to have my female Shepard at least attempt to persue a relationship with pretty much every member of the crew.  True, it never goes anywhere with the female members, but I at least had the option for my Shepard to try.  The male Shepard had no options for it at all, and that totally killed my desire to go through the game at least once as a male.  It also felt like a bit of an oversight on BioWare's part and originally I thought it was due to marketing issues and public opinion.  I did read the first couple of pages of this thread and noticed that one of BioWare's other games had m/m relationship options and it didn't hurt sales at all nor did it cause a huge public outcry.  This has me puzzled as to why they did not include such content in ME 2 and a bit upset they never included content for a complete f/f relationship.  I understand Shepard is a soldier, but there have been many cases of gay and bi males in the U.S. army and they obviously have no issues being badasses while maintaining a same sex relationship.  And why is it okay for a male noble fighter, (I'm sorry for forgetting the name of the game I am referencing, I would remember if I had played it), and its not okay for a character that is essentially the same, male fighter, in a more modern era?

Come on BioWare, I really don't understand what the issue is.  Love is love no matter who, or what, is involved.  So give us more love in ME 3!

I don't like the idea of same sex romance beyond Asari as they technically have no difference of gender (nor concept).

I don't agree with homosexuality. I don't want to see it the game. Many of the people you work with are Alliance or ex-Alliance. Although this is 175 years in the future. I will hold down the idea that conservatism hasn't changed too much and "Don't Ask Don't Tell" still exists.

Um, for one, the military is Earth military not American military. For two, the American military is already repealing "don't ask don't tell" right now, in the present day, currently.

Another reason I don't want it is because I don't want a character I consider a good friend (like Garrus) to start coming on to me.

Most of us are for a new love interest character for m/m options.

I don't want to acidently run into a romance plot all in the process of knowing my squadmates better

No one does, hence all the complaints about Jacob and Ashley pretty much being forced on the player.

Allow me once again to say how cool it would be to meet up with Hendel Mitra, a canonical gay Systems Alliance marine introduced in Mass Effect: Ascension.

Deeper friendships, and deeper romances, where Shepard can clearly express which s/he hopes to have with her/his companions would be most welcome.

I'm the only one who wants Shepard to be able to kill all his/her crewmates without a suicide mission? Really? Aw. :crying:

Anyways. For the love of the goddess, Ra, Horus, whoever you worship please bring back squadmates in armor for ME3 BioWare.

Otherwise a MShepxKaidan romance would be very much appreciated. <3 Even as an expansion pack.

Yeah I can't wait for ME3 when Bioware messes with us all.

"Lt. Zevran reporting for duty!"

Shepard: "WTH?!"

Admiral Xen: "Oh no, how did he get here too?!"

I'm all for same sex romances.

I'm a big fan of lesbians, blame yuri anime...
And of course the guys can't be left out either.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be in the game, if you don't want it, don't do the romance.

On the Zevran subject: I would realy lol if they made a Zevran cameo. "Private Narvez reporting for duty sir!'

I hate Zevran.

He's not that bad once you get to know him. Mind you, the justification of actually letting him live in your first encounter rather sucks.

"You tried to kill me!"

"Yeah, but you're kind of hot. Mind if I tag along?"

"OK."

I did get to know him. He still sucks. <_<

"Oh I'm going to give you an earring off of this dead guy I slept with!"

"...screw this I'm romancing Alistiar." (My female PCs)

"Oh, I'm going to give you an earring off of this dead guy I slept with!"

"...screw this I'm romancing Leliana, she may be crazy but at least she's subtle." (My male PCs).

I almost feel bad for the dude. Recently I've taken a liking to slitting his throat after our first meeting. :innocent:

This. Why is this such a difficult concept?

The "I don't want to sit in a chair that a gay man sat in" is not a viable argument IMO.

I just want to say i would like during the character import/creation screen to have a "sexuality" option.

That way the default is "straight" and nothing "gay" appears available to you in the game if you dont pick "bisexual" or "gay".

The romance dialogue could then have a check attached that checks if you are gay straight or bisexual. Straight closes the gay options, Gay closes the straight options, and bisexual opens most of them.

That way you dont need to work about all the extra work of colour coding dialogue and some of the other overcomplicated nonsense thats been proposed to "resolve" this issue.

On that note has anyone else noticed that someone has started an anti homosexuality in mass effect group?
