I just want to say i would like during the character import/creation screen to have a "sexuality" option.

That way the default is "straight" and nothing "gay" appears available to you in the game if you dont pick "bisexual" or "gay".

The romance dialogue could then have a check attached that checks if you are gay straight or bisexual. Straight closes the gay options, Gay closes the straight options, and bisexual opens most of them.
That way you dont need to work about all the extra work of colour coding dialogue and some of the other overcomplicated nonsense thats been proposed to "resolve" this issue.

On that note has anyone else noticed that someone has started an anti homosexuality in mass effect group?

I actually kind of like the whole 3 options. If only for the no surprise sex with females for my M!Shep. Though I would prefer if default had all options open. At least then there would be no "Well X isn't canon! Neh neh neh that some morons stay spewing." <_<

Also: So what? Let them have their group. As long as they're not spewing their hatred on our threads or in our group I could care less. ^_^

Ignore them. Let them converse amongst themselves and us do the same.

Freedom of Speech is a 2 way street after all.

Just having a hate-group proves that this thread is doing its job: it's being noticed. People react to it. As Warlord Okeer put it, the worst thing one can do to his enemy is to ignore him.

I have nothing against the three options idea, but I don't see it happening. It brings the whole issue too much to the foreground, when in reality it's maybe 2% of the gameplay experience, personal emotional effects nonwithstanding. Just make you be the one to make initiative in the dialogue, and make the option obvious enough, and everything should be a-OK.

My problem with Dragon Age romances was I found it was far too easy to accidentally romance a character you didnt want to romance.
My Blue Haired Mage (my avatar) character was intended to be gay and was waiting on Zevran when suddenly Alistair started prattling on at me about how could I have a "thing" with Morrigan cos hes a complete and utter b*tch; and im like "what are you on about Alistair? i havent been romancing her!"

He laughed at my denial. And caused me to check the influence bar and sure enough Morrigan was "interested". I'd only been nice to the mad witch! So I ended up with an inadvertant bisexual character on my hands.

So I started a new game with a greenhaired Dalish Elf and was more careful about what I said to Morrigan and Leliana and was successfully able to romance Zevran. But as much as I do love Zevran his romance track was strangely unsatisfying.
I had him ready to get into my pants in 2 conversations, and asking me himself back to his tent on the 3rd. I know hes a bit of a "womaniser" type but really?

Thats why i like the Mass Effect 1 and 2 romances. They arent as simplistic or as easy to accidentally pursue. The options are really fairly obvious.
The whole "sexuality" option would mean that there would be no chance of accidentally beginning a romance with no intention to begin one for a character you didnt wish to pursue. For example if I had been able to select an option at the start noting my Mage as Gay the game would have known that I definately WASNT pursuing Morrigan.

As far as I am concerned it satisfies all parties in this debate. Those who want gay content get it; those who dont care continue to be unaffected; those who dont want it dont need to see it - at all.

I hate Zevran. <_<

If he gets on the normandy  I want an airlock option. :pinched:

Zevran was definitely a step in the right direction, as opposed to ME2's backwardness.  Are we in a 1950s sci-fi or something???

With that said, I felt like I was settling for Zevran, with Alistair being more attractive physically and emotionally....

Uh...you sure. I found the whole romance dialogue with Morrigan pretty obvious. Not to mention it would only take a second to tell her it was a misunderstanding or you wanted to break up. :?

Of all the guys I rolled (which was a good 6) I never had a romance with Morrigan than I didn't initiate (and I only romanced her on 2 of my playthroughs).

*shrugs* Hey I'm pro the whole beginning selection thing, or pretty much anything really! I just want it in the game! :crying:

Zevran was pretty much everything wrong with a person in one being. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie] That in addition to the horrible accent and blotchy skin just made me shudder. No. Just. NO. I romanced him twice, I can't take it anymore. Now I just use the Equal Love mod with Alistiar or my male characters are single. Never again. *shudders*

I thought everyone loved elves?  I wonder if they have a gay Quarian in ME3 if he'll have as rabid fans as Tali.

I always pegged the asari as the space elves, with their hotness and their magic and their lifespan.

I can't remember the character, but in a previous Bioware game they had a bisexual NPC that was later changed to be strictly gay? This I do not agree with, cuz you're gunna disappoint those people who are getting cut out of the loop all a sudden. Female and Male Shepard have exclusive LI's in Tali and Thane who were that close to being bisexual, correct? How would you feel if there was a strictly gay NPC and later in the form of DLC or w/e they were turned bisexual? I want to state that I'm trying to be neutral here while being in the disposition of someone who doesn't want Tali, Thane, Kaiden, or Ashley to be like Liara was for ME1, cuz she seemed like the quintessential "sex toy" i.e. they can be had by every gamer. I mean that term lightly cuz I in no way hate Liara but my vocabulary is lacking.

I also retained this disposition based on something cutthecameras said to me, I hope I'm not misunderstanding the point she was making.

Want to add that I liked Zevran's character, he didn't seem to be "coming onto me at every conversation" like some people have said, but I have only played DAO once and didn't talk to Zev that much, but I didn't know he was even a M/M option till I found out from this website. I also support 100% the inclusion of gay romance because the homophobia levels of so many people is astounding but I hope it's in the form of NEW characters.

Thanks for keeping things intelligent, I hope I did the same.

You're thinking of Juhani.  She was actually supposed to be 100% gay from the first - she was bugged.  It wasn't them changing her character.  And I can see why people don't want that, even if I personally don't have a problem with it.

Read the FAQ if you haven't, Goat - it lists a lot of possible implementations.  What you suggest is there, and frankly, it would be great - most people would be very happy with a "new" character - ie, someone who is totally new to the story, someone who was previously unavailable but who is established as gay (Hendel), or someone who is already in the game but unavailable for romance, and  whose sexual history is unknown (like Joker!).

I agree.

The only existing ME character that I think "could" be "bisexual" based on the type of "character" they are is Kaidan - and I say that from existing in game dialogue.
Much like Alistair some of the dialogue with Males borders on flirtatious.

The other male and female characters really seem to be straight and should be left so (excluding Liara who like all Asari is pansexual). Except maybe Jack who seems like a major scary ass lesbian to me lol.

I would much prefer a new DLC character thats "gay". Exclusively gay. None of this bisexual nonsense. LOL.

Or keep her and Lelianna. It can be done. Can't have Morriagan, Lelianna and Queen Anora though... Lelianna won't go for being a 'kept woman' like Morrigan.

I think you pretty much hit it on the head with the rest of your post. This line though, while I suspect one reason for not allowing Jack to be a female romancable option would be the initial "oh great, ANOTHER angry Lesbian stereotype!" onslaught of complaints, IMHO that may not be as simple as it seems.

Through multiple playthroughs, my interpretation of Jack is that she is a girl who has always been used. Used by men, women, scientists, cultists, and whatever else and she's only had that one "sort-of love" experience. I could see a f/f option being handled well if it were to explore her coming to grips with being genuinely loved, no matter who is doing the loving.

True but Tali's still better. :P

an exclusively gay character though? That would be cool.

...though I almost feel sorry for Jacob. Poor guy has like zero fans.

There's a difference with that situation and the one we are at. Basically, would BioWare really have a game with only gay love interests and not have a straight one? If BioWare came out with a gay male love interest and a lesbian one for Mass Effect, then there wouldn't be a problem. While I would like to see the current love interests be patched in as same sex romances, I have no problem with new characters.

To answer you quest, if BioWare ever did a RPG where you are supposed to determine who your character is and then only had gay love interests in it, I would support some if not all of them being patched in as bisexual so that there would be opposite sex romances.

Bugged? Whata you mean? Juhani was supposed to be gay but  was reimplemented to be available to both sides? Cuz if so then my penultimate question is was there a lot of hate coming from the people that didn't want her to be turned bisexual?

It's also obvious that Bioware keeps making gay content only to have it shoved aside by some unseen power, that or they are bipolar and can't make up their minds on the M/M F/F issue. Or maybe they just like wasting time (maybe not like to, but they are wasting time).

Like...Juhani was gay. But due to a bug, she was available to male PCs as well. I think. It came up on the forums a couple of days ago. I honestly haven't played KoTOR in like 5 years, and when I did I went for Bastila cuz Jennifer Hale is my girlfriend.

Whaat where did you get that from my post? And this talk of "patching" is why I despise the idea of Bioware reimplementing Ashley, Kaiden, Tali, and Thane to be how they planned it. Nowhere does any single character say they only like guys or only like girls (except Jack Idk what her dialogue or sexual preferences are), it should be assumed via the romance dialogue. Bioware editing and reimplementing the characters after they have already been released gives me the impression that they are not canon NPCs, more like they don't know what the sexual preferences are of their NPCs.

And yes it's easier to write for bisexual characters than a strictly gay or lesbian character because all you have to do is give nearly the exact same script that you gave to Meer to Hale.

"patched in" ugh that seems so MMORPG
