To the whinners that don´t like mass effect 2, again mass effect 2 destroy other ps3 exclusive to GOTY

Both games have player choice and epic storytelling as their
raisons d'etre, but BioWare's game is by far the more satisfying. More
coherent, less pretentious, better acted and with choices loaded with
more real consequence that Heavy Rain's, it's easily the more
heavyweight and affecting game.

there are few legitimate problems with mass effect...

most complaints are simply people wanting different things in the game, not problems being fixed.

Actually I think I'd like that game.

You haven't played every game this year, so you can't say ME2 is anything but a contender.

A very, very, very, very good contender.

Atleast there is a reason to finally buy a game for my blueray player I mean PS3.

Mass Effect 2 has got to be a G.O.T.Y contender. It's everything a sequel should be.

Heavy Rain is actually an amazing game. Yes ME2 is far more fun, by miles. But Heavy Rain blows ME2's story to tiny insignificant dust, which then Keith Richards snorts up his nose. After playing Heavy Rain it's 8-9 hour story was so much more emotional. And you connect with the characters on a personal level that ME2 lacked.

ME2's story is predictable. When I came across revelations that were supposed to blow my mind, I went, yeah saw that coming. in Heavy Rain when I found out who the killer was I almost **** a brick. And it has an amazing intense climax, something of which ME2 was lacking with it's Mecha Terminator clone...

Yes ME2 has a great story, and amazing gameplay. But Heavy Rain is also an amazing game. I don't see why your...I guess it seems like bragging, that ME2 is better in one critics eyes...Big deal. it's his opinion. My opinion is that I love both games for different reasons.

By the way, that rubbish about ME2 having more real consequences....Heavy Rain has 22 endings. There are 4 characters and all of them can die at any time during the game, and there isn't a continue button. If that character dies he's dead for the rest of your playthrough, and the game changes. Seems to me that's a bigger consequence....

Both games rocked my world.

Indeed. Its a shame that is PS3 only. I'll love to play that game on PC.

Heavy Rains a great game, the issue is it trys so hard to be a movie I might as well just watch Mystic River or something and get 10x the amount of sordid depressivesness at 10x higher concentration (2 hours versus 20)

When I was playing ME, I don't think I ever felt "why don't I just watch startrek".

That being said, this kind of bragging is retarded beyond belief.    OP needs to terminate self.    Both are well crafted games on its own right.    I suppose one is "better", but its far from clear cut.

It's very unfortunate that Heavy Rain is PS3 only (I loved Indigo Prophecy). Adventure games should be on PC

I have to agree with that.
There's no way I'm gonna buy PS3 just for one game.

I have not played Heavy Rain. However, I'm intrigued by the possibility of a game that can be totally considered a drama. It's a genre largely unexplored in games and it seems difficult to pull off, but I think it can be done. The problem is, of course, is there a market for it? That shouldn't even be a question that is asked but in the world of games it's evidently going to be a concern for the publisher.

As much as games can be thought-provoking and plot-driven, there is always combat. We can't escape that even the most subtle storylines have you inevitably killing things along the way. I don't think combat is necessary for a game to be fun, but a surprising amount of gamers disagree with me.

Just play Indigo Prophecy. It's the same thing with another story and available for PC.

Heavy Rain's story is a giant red herring, and there is a gigantic plot hole in the story. It killed the experience, I was expecting a great game with a compelling story. I instead got an decent game with a half baked story filled with red herrings.

First of all, games are subjective. It's impossible for ME2 to "destroy" Heavy Rain, or vice versa. If someone likes one more than the other, they can't be wrong. It's an opinion.

Anyway, I've been playing through Heavy Rain this past week, and it's just an incredible game. It isn't "fun", in the sense that you're going to buy it and have some friends over to play it. It's a pretty new kind of game, something that hasn't really been done before. It definitely isn't for everyone.

If the main reason you play games is for entertaining gameplay and "fun", Heavy Rain is not for you. If you play games to experience a story in an interactive way and be immersed into different characters, Heavy Rain is most definitely for you.

Either way, both Mass Effect 2 and Heavy Rain are pretty superb games, and pieces of art. This juvenile "My game's better!" argument insults both games.

Indigo Prophecy killed it in the end though. No game has been bold enough to totally avoid videogame tropes all the way through imo

Is Heavy Rain really that good? Sounds like a visual novel. I just might pick it up.

It's going to be a very polarizing game. Some will love it, some will hate it. It basically all comes down to what kind of gamer you are, and what you look for in a game.

I, for example, am the kind of player who values plot and character above all else. I don't play games for the visceral thrill of scoring a nice shot. I play them to be immersed in a world and to inhabit another character. Combat and such can be fun along the way, but ultimately it's a means to an end for me.

Also, as a quick aside, it's true that Heavy Rain relies heavily on Quick-Time Events. I think the reason it can be forgiven is that it's possible to fail them. Missing a number of QTE prompts doesn't just pop up a "Try Again" screen. Those are mistakes you have now made and there will be consequences, up to and including permanent character death. The story will then continue without that character.

Again though, this is a game that does not want to be fun. It wants to tell a story. If you need a game to be traditionally "fun" in order to enjoy it, then Heavy Rain is not intended for you, and that's fine.

You are kidding right?

They used a chainsaw where a scalpel was needed and turned the game into a half arsed shoot'em up wannabe .

ME2 is a good game but it certainly isn't a good sequel.  It's the equivalent of a direct to DVD followup to a Hollywood blockbuster.

... In my opinion of course.

Be warned. Your opinion does not matter on the internet.

Did Mass Effect 2 actually make any cry? I failed to feel any emotion during this game or even in films.

I rarely feel sad.
