I got in the last post before the thread was closed, and by Mr. Woo's comment, it seems I hit the nail on the head.
Making nude models of all LI in ME2 is such a huge cost for BioWare, time and money that could have been spent on other parts of the game that they decided to do a sexsceene with the standard models.
Remember, they need to make a nude model of every LI along with a nude model of male and female Shepard. So thats 9 models. In ME1, you only had to make 2, one male and one female (then recolor the female one).
How many humanoid high level models are using in this game? 50? 70? With a nude scene for everyone we are talking about atleast a 10% bump in the modeling/art cost of the game. For what cooks down to around less then 1% of the game, and even worse, since there are 7 LI, most people will only see 1 out of 7 of the models. Thats a HUGE amount of money spent on making content that small part of the playerbase will end up seeing.

So while we can argue back and forth between good tast and wanting to see Garius ass, it is really all about how much money and time should be used for this, and not if BioWare choose to bow down for EA rules and regulations, or they got scared of the media attention they got last time.

I suppose when you focus most of your budget on combat, you can't afford silly roleplay extras.

Indeed. main gameplay elements are more important than unecesary extras.

In terms of cost, I would figure it would be around 50-70% cost of all those news reports combined.

So how about less world ambience for Garius butt?

In my own opinion those news reports are more important for immersing yourself into the game world than naked turians.

As I said in another thread, I'd appreciate it if you left the RPGs alone and stuck to Halo if you place such a high priority on combat 'SPLOSHUNS.

As has been stated countless time ME2 is an action RPG. Therefore the combat system is as important as the story elements.

I'd have to agree with Apophis, though for a different reason - I'd rather they spent the money from nude models on something else in the game(character interaction would be nice - no, not that kind interaction, christ).  Spending the time to create nude models for characters just for a sex scene that only people who romance that character would see seems less important to me then making the world more immersive or the gameplay better.

For the record: what is Baldurs Gate then? A hack n' slash, an action RPG as Mass Effect or simply an RPG?

The reason I'm asking is that there is probably more fighting in Baldurs Gate than Mass Effect, but I have never heard anyone refer to Baldurs Gate as anything else than an RPG. Still, despite the endless fights in that game, the devs managed to cram in even more story value than in ME1 and even ME2.

I like how they handled it in ME1. It was tasteful and felt meaningful. I think they did okay in ME2, but it definitely felt more casual. It gave the impression that they were just unwinding before the big mission rather than, I don't know, connecting? It didn't break the game for me, but I cared a lot less about the LI's in this game.

Note: This is as much a commentary on the overall romance experience as it is on the sex scenes themselves

But...but...we're the internet!  If we don't make more threads the people in charge might not pander to our demands and then everything will suck for everyone!

I'm an adult. When two adults really like each other, they sometimes take their clothes off not dry hump each other with their clothes on. I really don't think I'm asking for too much when I say "more realism please!"

I prefer the way the sex scene was handled in ME1 to ME2. That said I thought the Tali/Shep scene was really sweet.

For Jack/Shep I really would not object to seeing all her other ink, I'm sure she has full body ink with even some great and painful pieces on her feet and ankles. I'm sure the artists would have a great time creating all the lower body ink as well. In fact I would be surprised if they hadn't already done so and it just isn't 'in game'.

Agreed.  Good article.

For the record I thought the sex scenes were handled very well in ME1 but have not yet reached that part of the story on my first ME2 playthrough.
