If you've played Dragon Age you'd know already that same sex romances are optional so unless Shepard gets prison raped by a Krogan, nobody is forcing anything on you.  I don't like the idea of playing as a Shepard who is an a-hole to everyone, that is why I play Paragon.  The game isn't just about me and my personal choices though and that is why the game gives you a variety of choices in how to personalize your Shepard's personality.
If you don't want to play as a gay Shepard, don't play as one but don't tell me you're being forced to accept anything gay just because the option exists.

They are not pointless. People create them to express their opinion about the game and for clarification.

Since BioWare has included homosexuality in other games, it's really surprising that there isn't any in ME2. For those who wish to have them, it's frustrating.

If you can't understand, then put yourself in their position. Would you not be frustrated if there were only same sex romance and NONE heterosexual options? I think not.

I just wouldnt play the game.  On the other hand I wouldnt go onto the games forums and complain about it and flame people who disagreed with me.
