I could probly have an intelligent conversation about the pro's and con's of this subject with someone like you and be civil about it. I fall into the same weakness of your counterparts when they start flaming me calling me names telling me I am gay and so on. My natural male instinct is to attack back.

technically speaking gay is a genetic defect.

Anyone who uses such venemous rhetoric towards gays is clearly struggling with sexuality issues of their own.  I mean just look at all of the anti-gay republican pastors, and republican politicians who have been exposed as gays.  
It's what happens when someone is raised believing that being gay is wrong only to find out themselves that they have attractions towards the same gender.  Rather than embrace these feelings they do everything in their power to convince themselves that these feelings are not true and thus they feel extremely threatened by any situation that may make those homosexual feelings emerge.

I feel a bit sorry for you.  It must suck to have to live your life as a lie because of your own bigotry.

So you wouldn't play the game just b/c of the LIs? The LI do not make ME only. They are a part of it. And if you really like Mass Effect then I'm pretty sure you would play it. And then you would be disapointed in the LI department.
But I do agree with "flame people who disagreed with me". I am trying to express my opiniong in a respectable form, but I have seen some people going overboard with this topic. So yeah, that's the sad part, but it's their loss, b/c being able to express yourself anywhere (in a respectable maner) is a very good skill in life.

So long as a same sex romance is optional, shouldn't it not matter?  I mean, if you don't like it just don't bother engaging in it.

Yes if ME only had gay options and you couldnt be straight, I really dont know if I would play it.  I can see your point of view from that angle.  If I did play it I just wouldnt choose to be romantic in the game.  Thank you for not telling me I act like I have a pole shoved in my butt because I have a different point of view.  I dont have a prob with anyone being gay.
