So I understand there are the 2% of the population in the world that actually plays games only for trophies/achievements and we have to make it hard not to cheat....

However, why in the world are my saved games tied to my physical PS3 (which is now defunct)???  I did a system restore and tried to copy a save game via an external hard drive (well actually copy I was told was prohibited).  Neither will work.  Placing my old PS3 hard drive into the new PS3 only gives the option to format it. :crying:

Seriously, is there no way for me to ever play my saved games again because of a hardware failure (YLOD)?  Other games have copied nicely to my USB external and are working fine on the new Slim.  I've literally dumped 100's of hours into this game, and have been patiently waiting for RtO (won't see one complaint about delay from me) and ever so excited about loading my characters into the new expansions.

Well, all that enthusiasm has been squashed.  I won't be purchasing any future expansions or DLC as long I can't backup my precious saved games.  If I missed something along the way and there is indeed a way to restore my saved games on my new PS3 (and subsequently back them up in the future), please enlighten me and you'll have my humblest apologies.  Otherwise, I think I will boycott the brand name out of sheer stupidity.  I've done everything I was supposed to in protecting my data, however Bioware has intenionally prevented me from restoring from a backup... thanks.

I saw this being a problem for PS3 users and it makes no sense whatsoever why they would lock the saved game files on the PS3 when it's been met with such opposition and is just downright stupid. It's a good way to lose a lot of fans. I know for sure if my PS3 goes then I'm never buying another Bioware game again because to lose well over 100 hours of gameplay over something so stupid is un-called for. They should have at least released a patch or something by now to unlock the files.

It's all right, I lost 7 complete playthrough'sto the YLOD :( I've since taken the oppertunity to use my knowledge of the game to get exactley the type of character I wanted to continue with when Awakening gets released. I've since completed it a futher 2 times & am up to the final battle on my 10th full playthrough :) In short it does suck but I enjoyed going through it again :)

You have more patience than me (or free time).  My copy of DA:O is already at the bargin bin at the local Game Stop.  Lesson learned though, I'll be searching for 'save lock' on every game before I buy it.  If it exist, I won't be supporting it with my cash.  It is completely uncalled for and an insult to the consumer.  I'd dare Bioware to try and defend it as any other than such.

In a way it is a relief... now I don't have to check these forums once a week to see if a DLC from 3 months ago is ready yet... -_-

You can recover the trophies. The save games, as someone who has also experienced this same problem, I can tell you you're basically SOL. Your fastest option in terms of getting your saves back is honestly... just beating the game again.

Better hope that you didn't earn any trophies before your old PS3 had time to synch with the servers... otherwise you might end up trophyscrewed. That's what happened to me :( My EA account has me listed as having the "slayer" trophy, but my PSN account doesn't recognize it, and I've been having a ****ty time trying to find a way to make it un-stupid.

So I was nearing the end of DA and the game crashed while playing through the last couple of hours of the game. Consequently.. my system will no longer load any ps3 games.. Is that the games fault? Maybe.. maybe not. But now I have at the very least restore my system, and the most send it in for repair. Both options mean needing to back up my files.

So naturally I just bumped into the save game lock. It's total crap that I"m not able to back up or move a save file for a game that I payed for. I'm sure one consumer hardly matters in the scheme of things, but at this point it's pretty likely that this is the first , and last Bio-ware game I'm going to purchase no matter how good the game may be.

Same thing happened to me, and it wasn't the first time I was forced to restart my game. While playing the first time around, on my old system pre-YLOD, the specializations weren't unlocking for me and Bioware blamed me for not knowing how to unlock the specs. Eventually I "fixed" it myself by deleting my save and game data to get it working. It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth and finding out that saved games are locked just adds insult to injury.

If you really want to play Bioware games; do it on the PC. That's what I'll be doing in the future even though I'd much rather play them on my PS3. I've got too much time invested and enjoyment in Bioware games to completely give up. At least I can give credit to the creative talent working at Bioware who aren't responsible for these ridiculous technical issues. Unfortunately, I feel that boycotting the PS3 version will do nothing since sale numbers were not even in the same league as PC or Xbox and support goes wherever the numbers go.

The only option to restore the locked saved games is to pretend from sony to repair your console instead of substitute it , backup won't work on these files if done on another console.

If Sony doesn't want to repair your ps3 even paying, you should also temporary fix your ps3 YLOD like described on some video on youtube (or pay someone else to fix it) just to make sure your ps3 will start at least for one day and use the new transfer feature in firmware 3.15 to transfer all data from your "defunct" ps3 to a new one.

I've already said that locking saved games is an horrible thing, they should not lock saved games that are unique and not downloadable elsewhere, or at least they should lock them to your PSN id or EA account and NOT at the PS3 Hardware that may break more easily.

I feel like Sony has to be at least partly blame here. I mean, have you seen their policy on the online video store? Unlike game dlc, if you buy a movie, you get to download it once... that's it. No second download, and you're barely able to transfer it. Pretty much makes buying from the video store 100% useless.

This is all on Bioware. I can export other saved game files but I can't for DA which is absurd. If this was the old durable Sega Genesis that I could throw down a flight of stairs and have it still work fine then yeah, I'd understand but these new systems have a higher than normal failure rate and most of them break with you simply playing the game. These saves need to be unlocked and if they're not it just shows you how little the company cares about its customers. What goes around, comes around. Remember that.

I think that is EA policy to lock saved games.

Regardless of whether it was EA or Bioware's decision it was a very bad one in my eyes. I also believe that Sony are partly to blame since they should be able to define whether devs are able to lock game saves or not – but they do nothing, as usual.

Sorry, ZERO fault for Sony and 100% EA/Bioware. The option is there (provided by Sony), but it was EA/Bioware's choice to lock them. Kind of like blaming the knife manufacturer instead of the murderer. I just don't see the point, since Bioware's stance has been to "reduce piracy". This does nothing to reduce piracy, but really shafts the paying customers (making piracy more tempting).

In a game this long, and a RPG (where people tend to get more attached to their avatars than usual), locked saves just should not be an option. It ONLY hurts people and prevents ZERO piracy.

MAKE A PATCH TO REMOVE THE LOCK!!! (other companies have done it)

I thought that you could transfer the *entire* drive from a fat to a slim... and the locked saves would transfer after deleting on the old system.

I have heard people *can* transfer locked saves from Ps3 to another PS3.

@Stoomkal : yes you can do this, but Trilarian opened this topic because his PS3 is dead, you can do this only if both ps3 work.

So the point is : Until your ps3 works why you should buy another one and transfer data to it ?
Once your ps3 is broken and you cannot repair it it's too late to transfer data to another ps3.

Another thing is that if you use transfer feature this is the behavior :
- if a file isn't protected the file is copied from the old ps3 to the new ps3
- if a file is protected , the file is transferred from the old ps3 to the new ps3, this means you can only have a copy of that file, so for example use another ps3 for backup is not an option.

Long story short:

-data transfer utility is not going to be the answer for 99% of people who have ps3s that crash

-the save files should have never been locked in the first place

They simply can't , the info uploaded to this site is only story , portrait, stats, abilities, equipment :
your saved games are only on your console, and on your backups.

So I was playing DA:O a couple days ago when Sony fatties went down with the leap year glitch. I had earned the slayer trophy, but hadn't synced it. Now all my saves came back, and all my trophies earned to that point except slayer. I went through, got my lvl 20 Mage trophy, and started a new game to go get slayer again. Did it, offed the elves, talked to nekkid tree girl, but no slayer trophy unlock. I only care cuz it's all that's keeping me from platinum, and the glitch wasn't even my system. Any one have any ideas? Delete all saves and game data and thy again?
