I have been told that the more items you donate to the Allied Supply Crates adds to your xp...

I have been adding all game, and do not seem to have garnered any xp from doing so.

I have tried recently and it never seems to add anything.

Is this a system that was cut from the console versions?

I never noticed any either.Would it be better to just sell the gems?

It works but the XP gain is rather small. You have to donate 30 gold maybe 3 or 4 times or stacks of 99 elfroot the same amount to see it tick up a little bit.

If you're not contributing a large sum of them at once, I fail to see why you'd bother when the net XP gain is so miniscule.
Sell them. Unless it's something like Elfroot or money (should you have large heaps of it), I wouldn't throw anything of merchant-worth to those black holes you call guys call Allied Supply Crates.

Donating is also supposed to help your troops at a certain point in the game. This is a no spoiler section so I won't go into details. I think you get more troops if you donate to the boxes. The troops I donated a lot to seemed to be more numerous at that "time".

The thing I wonder about this is does it actually make the troops stronger in the end game battle. I always assumed it did and thus gave regularly. Anyone played twice, once giving profusely and the other not giving one dime?

Apparently, it gives them "better equipment"... I have not seen it, though.

Even the Wiki is hazy on this point...

And I have never seen an xp gain on my ps3 version.

While this is arguable to a fine point when discussing anything other than money or runes, I'd like to point out that such an advantage might hardly be worth it. Maybe for those certain soldiers of whom you're given an extremely small amount? It sounds pretty counter-productive otherwise.

I get 10 XP per Rune, or a Souvereign+ per Masterrune....

Who needs money?
