Here's hoping that it'll be properly integrated into the game.
It's not.. It's clearly going to be mission specific. We're probably not going to be able to use it for anything other than the 5 announced missions that will be packaged with it.
It does seem a little hypocritical to me to bring the Hammerhead in after the fact though. Obviously the Mako was a labor of love and Bioware spent alot of time creating and developing it. So why did they drop it and planet exploration in the first place? And why bother with the Hammerhead now?
Oh well, free content. Bring it on.

You do realize that there is a space specifically for the Hammerhead in the lower deck of the Normandy, next to the drop shuttle... so it's obviously been part of the plan all along. I expect there will be many more Hammerhead missions in the future.

But hey we're getting a new heavy weapon! yeah!
Maybe the illusive Plasma Thrower we see in the "Enemies of Mass Effect" Video but for some reason, never showed up. Or maybe itw as retooled as the Collector Particle cannon. Of course, we see a Geth Destroyer using the plasma thrower, but in the game itself, they use flamethrowers.

I hope there is a skin that allows us to remove the Cerberus (super secret black ops rogue organization) logo from the vehicle.
Cerberus (At least the Lazerus Cell) is more like Blackwater, than some super secret orginization. In that everyone knows they exist, but nobody wants to know. There's no shame in showing who's doing what.

Guys, it's a free DLC. Let's be happy BioWare's churning out free DLCs. If we keep complaining, they'll start charging us for it. Plus, the Hammerhead isn't even out yet. Download it first before complaining. If it doesn't work based on how you would have expected it then tough luck, don't use it.
I had to pay for Dragon Age: Origins' DLCs. There were one's that were nice and there were ones that weren't. It may be 5 or 7 bucks but it does suck when you pay for something that you didn't enjoy right?
So let's be happy and stop complaining that EA/BioWare doesn't do this or that. The guys have been working their butts off to bring us good games through the years.

It's especially funny during a couple of the N7 missions where you land, and then the guard sees the Cerberus logo and ****s his pants

My favorite pic. of the Hammerhead. The only thing I'm mad about is the fact that the ME2 Twitter said free content in a couple of weeks, and this is coming out in late March.
Well, if it came out any sooner, many would be complaining that they finished this content before the game was released and it should be on the disc.

Overall I think they came a long way with not making the N7 missions feel as generic as they did in the first game. So far though, we've had to sacrifice free exploration and less habitable locations. Hopefully this will help bring that balance back.
I don't have any problem waiting for this and other content, free or not. Even without it the game was well worth the $60, it probably allowed us to get the game a little sooner and new dlc adds to the replay value. We'd all like to have it on day 1 but that's not reasonable. My one concern with the hammerhead is it being it's own separate add-on. Will they shy away from using it in possible expansions because not everyone will have it?
Keep the dlc and expansions coming though. There are a lot of us who I know would buy it weekly if you could produce it that fast at the same level of quality.

Good question. However since it is free there's no real excuse for not having it.
Perhaps they will release some N7 style missions that are centered around the Hammerhead (and require the firewalker dlc) while others are done on foot only.

This just in: Mass Effect 1 had two (yes, read it: TWO) total DLC installments. Both were very much not free, and while the first one was decent, though nothing exceptional, the second (which I passed on) was apparently not very good at all.
Already we've got a new mission (which was interesting at the very least), another squadmate (complete with his own mission), new weapons and armor, and we are now receiving what could be the beefiest chunk of DLC yet...and people continue to whine. Sure, one could argue that this stuff was all just pushed off to get the game released on time, but one can also argue that Bioware is under no obligation to finish this content and release it to us at no extra charge. Who gives a damn if it's going to be a couple weeks later than anticipated; the game has barely been out for a month.
Honestly how petty can one get?

Now I'm not saying Karlojey is wrong, but I was/have been on the strong impression that all game developers ideally want to release new dlc for their fans to use and play but Microsoft charges said companies to allow them to put their content on their site (in the case of Xbox Live Marketplace).Karlojey wrote...

I rarely use my PC for gaming (other then classics that might give you people nightmares *cough* Oni *cough* Dungeon Keeper *cough*) so sites like Steam may charge users though possibly for the same reason, they charge companies to allow them to put their content onto their site for distribution.
That being said, it could be taken two ways: Bioware released the "Cerberus Network Card" to pre-emptively cover such costs when they release dlc which is why it's "free" to those that have said card.
Or on the other hand, those two paragraphs above I just wrote is completely off base and BioWare just turn a profit by releasing dlc for fans to download at a cost (by way of microsoft points or having the cerb card).
As for something to do with the actual topic, I can't wait to give the hammerhead a spin. Though if they [bioware] are releasing a new heavy weapon as well it seems a bit redundant to include it in a dlc package with a tank that would otherwise stop you from using said heavy weapon for the 5 missions it's used for... then again there's all those other missions the game initially comes with.
Last Thought: I think it's a good mix for developers to bring to light new dlc they are releasing, but it's also good if they keep some secret until the day of release. A surprise isn't always a bad thing, that and you don't have people having spasms over waiting for a week/month.

I mean, I'd already be grateful for Bioware continuously releasing DLC's for a small fee (I wouldn't mind paying for them at all....nobody works for free, you know), and releasing them free of charge is even more kind from their part. Hammerhead will add 5 more missions and a playable vehicle, for free. And kids still complaint... ¬¬

Unlike Zaeed, who was a terrible, tacked-on, underdeveloped non-character. I liked his anecdotes, but I wanted to actually TALK to the guy rather than just click on his head and make him speak.

Except it isn't really free, since you have to pay for Cerberus Network to get it. That said, I'm not one of the complainers.

Personally I don't think that'll be an issue. The whole point of the Cerberus network was an incentive for people to buy the game new rather than used. People who bought the game second hand aren't supporting Bioware, none of that money goes to them, so why should Bioware support these people?
And even then, the people who bought the game used have access to all the Cerberus network content for a one time payment of 1200 MS points, so they can still get the Hammerhead if it's tightly integrated into any future expansions. And if they're not the sorta person who pays for DLC to get the Cerberus network then they're not gonna pay for an expansion anyway, so it becomes a complete non-issue.
As for the 5 missions we're getting with the Firewalker pack, it's more than I was expecting. 5 missions is a nice amount to allow some variety. I'm not expecting them all to be wide open expanses for exploring, but I'm willing to bet that at least a couple of them will have a good area to explore. Remember that the Hammerhead was always intended to be the replacement for the Mako, who's primary purpose was exploration.
Now, you can point at the space on the hangar deck as evidence of the fact that the Hammerhead was supposed to be in the main game, but I'm gonna point at the interview with Casey Hudson (can't find the link right now, but I'll insert it when I do), where he talked about what they were doing with the Mako, and how we were really gonna like it. Now I don't think he's daft enough to really believe that we're gonna really enjoy absolutely nothing in place of the Mako (and don't bring up the planet scanning as a replacement, we're talking about exploration here).
Are the Hammerhead missions gonna be linear affairs? A couple of them, probably. Possibly even most of them, but you can bet your backside that there are gonna be more later, chargeable or otherwise. These will no doubt expand on the experience we already have with larger areas to explore (or should I say, more of them). After all, why would we need homing missiles if most of the enemies we'll encounter are coming down a fairly narrow corridor?
Frankly I'm really happy with the approach to DLC this time round. Sure, what we've had so far hasn't been the beefiest of content, but it's been free, and it's been a steady stream. Think about this - if all the free DLC released so far had been held back and released as one pack, it would have seemed fantastic, especially for no charge. The Firewalker pack seems like another fairly chunky slab of content which gives them yet another base to expand upon in future DLC. And all this before they even start charging us for extra content? So how much work are they gonna need to put into a piece of DLC before they feel they need to charge us for it? That content is gonna be something great, I have little doubt. Keep up the good work Bioware, is what I say. My hat is well and truly off to you...
