The last chapter of our Warden hero?

However, due to resources, problems with multiple endings etc, I assume we'll start with a new hero, it seems the most likely way to go.

I certainly hope not. One of the things that make a great series is the continuation of the main character. Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect, just as an example.
I think there's loads of stories left to be told in Thedas (Antiva, Tevinter and Nevarra sound fascinating) and I think most of the writers are capable of giving us another group of engaging, devisive and fun companions. I'd rather have some of my favourites put to bed than play a sequel limited by pandering to us fans. Not that Bioware would, but still.

I did get attached to the characters of DA:O, but from a gameplay perspective, I don't feel there's much to be expanded upon and prefer a new set of characters to get to know. So yay for me. I'm all for cameos though, and if a character's story needs a wrap-up, this is a perfect way to go. IMO, of course.

I just want more of the world. And while I like the characters I have created I don't mind making a new one to experience new adventures and more of the world. I would love to play my Warden's Calling, but I can't imagine how it would be implimented. I have 4 characters in Origins and I plan on playing the Orlessian once in Awakennings so a new character isn't really that bad.
Although I would really like to play my chacters to their conclussion. I think we all already know what that conclussion is. At the end of Origins we have been a Grey Warden for 1-2 years and Awakennings is 6 monthes later so in the life span of a Grey Warden we have 27.5 years to go.
Maybe Dragon Age 2 is about a Shadow of the Empire assasian and then the 3rd game is about someone else and both the PC from 1 and 2 are party members. Who knows where the tech will be when Dragon Age 3 is out.
Speculation can be fun, but it is ultimately fruitless as time is the only thing that can provide all the answers.

Bioware can end all potential unfinished content bout our warden and companions in the expansion and focus on creating new original story for DAO 2.
As i see it content which left open the most is plot what will happen with Morrigan and that could even be main theme of DAO 2.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand that you're either down with the changes or not, and if you're not, you're probably bothered that you had no say in it. Personally, I prefer the new and improved (yep, I said it) Liara, even given her tiny appearance in ME2, as her ME1 incarnation was barely a step above Kaiden on the boring scale.
Regarding the debate over the degree of closure we need in Dragon Age... I don't know, I was probably more satisfied with the amount of closure DA:O left us with than any other BioWare game in recent memory. At the same time, I kind of agree that jumping back into conflict with our Wardens may override some of that sense of closure. As long as Awakening or a subsequent expansion ties things up pretty well, I think I'll be more than ready to fill some new shoes in DA2. Although I do think that meeting or even recruiting some of the original game's companions would be pretty cool. But I don't think I would feel right romancing any of the romance characters with a new PC.

Really I don't mind if I get to play as my character or not in the next Dragon Age, I am very happy with being able to continue their stories in this expansion and perhaps more expansions in the future. I have a feeling this Dragon Age is going to last a very long time.
It's a bit early to start speculating on full sequels just yet.

The architect may very well change that, and how much he changes the whole picture and how far we get in the story of the warden. What may or may not motivate the wardens to fight in DA2 or another expansion is not clear yet, and allthough "yet another blight" is off the table there may very well be the possebility of taking the fight to the darkspawn by helping the dwarves rebuild their empire or using the knowledge of where the last two archdemons are to take them out preemptively. There are many other possebilites, the wardens have started rebellions before after all, not to mention that the wardens do become the arl of amaranthine so they are also a part of ferelden. Hence a war with another nation in thedas could potentially force you to act in conflict with the grey warden code of neutrality.
That being said I think cameos of the party members would be enough so that the developers can focus on continuing the wardens story the way that made dao so great: the party and their stories, getting them to warm up to you etc. Still at some point the warden's gotta die or settle down for his/her last days before the taint does its job ;D An epilogue at the end of the last game of the warden where you go for your calling would be epic, and also a fun way to start off the last game for that matter. Would be an interesting way to say goodbye to your fellow wardens, romance partners and friends that are still around, but unlikely due to the nr. of va's to re hire for that.
Hmm I think I went a bit off topic there ;D Sry about that but I'm too tired to edit this

It's very easy to have a go at Obsidian about KOTOR 2, but that game would have been absolutely astounding given 6 more months development time. I blame LucasArts. But being the very informed woman you are, Maria, I'm not going to pretend you don't already know all this. Just giving KOTOR 2 and Obsidian a little well needed support.
Anywho...
I would be cautious about the Warden being in DA2. It could be done well, if alot of the development time was devoted to dealing with the consequences of DA and the expansions, but that would just make a very expensive epilogue for DA and not have as good a story on its own. The other choice is a repeat of ME2 (I like ME2, but in some ways found it disappointing, and I don't think i'm alone there).
So, given the sheer number of competing expectations, I don't think we'll see a full game dealing with the same characters and storylines without pissing off a sizeable portion of the fanbase. For example, they would either have to come down solely on the side of DR or US, or play it safe and give the choice less time than it deserves, like in ME2.
I think I would guess that the expansions will deal with the short term consequences of DA. The DR/US has wider implications, so I think we'll be hearing more about that, but every other consequence I can think of right now is fairly local to Fereldan. But DA2 will be a different story with different characters.
Which, IMO, is the way it should be. I loved Fereldan and it's people, but I would be disappointed if other places got neglected because of overindulgence in fan service. How many iterations of Denerim can we see without getting bored of it. And if we are in another country, how likely is it that whoever has influence in Fereldan would take a break and take some arbitrary cameo-inducing trip to a foreign land?

While previous Bioware game consistantly tell engaging stories, I'm not a fan of the way the characters tend to be abandoned in sequels, sometimes unhappily. Right now, most of the DA characters have been left to an uncertain future. It feels like a tv show where we've only watched the first season, but there's talk of ditching it for a spin-off set in the same world. I'd really rather have a second season. Spin-offs are are well and good, but only after the loose ends are tied up from the first show, and all the stories told.
...
Excellent point.
I wonder how David would have felt if after the first season of Buffy they wrote out Alison Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter??
In all seriousness, though, I am thinking that the two expansions to DA1 will be "replacement" sequels... and it will turn out to be a "kinda-trilogy".
To tell the truth, I have *always* referred to Baldur's Gate as a "trilogy" - even though ToB was an expansion pack.
I hope to be as satisfied here as I was with that.

What will be the driving force?
Gray Wardens are to Blights, as Fire Fighters are to… well fires. If there have been no fires in 400 years, no one wants to pay for a fire station, trucks, and the men, the same goes for the Wardens. Other than the possibility for Morrigan and her "demon" baby, there's not much for your warden to within his/her life time. Even though she/he did "single-handedly" defeat the blight before it began, there's little reason to travel the whole world solving every little town's problems. I would very much like to see my Warden and his friends in a sequel, but I think it too much constrains the possibilities.
If this is the case, I would very much like to see mention of his great exploits or possibly give me the conclusion of my hero, even if it is as a history lesson to the new characters: As what to aspire to, or how power corrupts, depending on your DA: Origins choices.
