Zaeed is more awesome than some people can handle. And that's okay.

I put him in charge of one of the groups in the suicide mission and he died. So much for battle hardened bad ****. That really pissed me off.

You do understand that the "suicide mission" has quite artificial and conditional gameplay architecture. Miranda, for example, can't die at all before the final phase of it. Maybe one of the purposes behind all those conditions was to allow people intentionally kill off charachters they don't like.

Of course, it would make more sense that a "wrong" squad leader gets somebody else killed, but the devs decided it as they did.

Being a bad ass doesn't necessarily make one a good leader. His first stint at leadership got him shot in the head.

Zaeed just doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone other then his pay.

False, as evidenced by plenty of his contextual dialogue and some of the things he tells you during his stories. That said, he is quite hardened.

As for his leadership abilities, it's practically a running joke. Every time he gets put on a team, something goes terribly wrong and everyone dies but him. Except that first time, where he got shot in the head. He's not leadership material, but he can hold a position for sure :D

He is a pissed off old man seeking revenge.

He got shot in the head and survived for crying that equals bad**** in my book.

He gets the job done, but tends to expend people in the process. The problem is, he is too confident for others to keep up pace on the jobs he takes. High survival skills pulled his arse out off any sh*t so far, even when everyone else's faltered.

Zaeed was the grizzled veteren that I felt was lacking in ME1.....

Personally I loved the character, and actually liked the fact that he didnt have a conversation system, only war stories. The guy doesnt make friends, it makes sense. I took the grizzled old **** on every mission I felt the story called for it.

Zaeed is great. I like to listen to his stories from time to time. Sad, that he don't have any serious converstions.

I said this in another thread:

Love his stories:  I find it oddly amusing that I know several people who will yammer on about "war stories" without anyone else getting in a word edgewise.  Zaeed does it well.

Plus, he comes with AR and SR, Disruptor Ammo and Concussive Shot.  Great combination.  Throw in
his Loyalty power which has great AoE CC and stagger effects (will AoE stagger enemies with shields or barriers) and he's priceless.  Upgraded to Squad Disruptor and you have a bunch of shieldless enemies with
overheated weapons that dance around while on fire or just simply get knocked back and out of commission.

I like him a lot, actually. He is VERY useful in combat, and on the Normandy, I really enjoyed his stories. And he always has something to say after each mission, it seems.

The only thing I didn't like about him was just the lack of interactive conversation on the Normandy.

His loyalty mission was great, and the Paragon PUNCH was epic. Totally worth it.

TBH, I would love to see him in ME3, maybe as a "changed man" after seeing all the gruesomeness that the Collectors/Reapers have done. Maybe he will change and start to think of "the greater good" as opposed to just himself.

This already happens during ME2. Taking him with you on main storyline missions, his comments are very telling.

Um Star Wars character what? Other sci-fi universes are not allowed badass mercs? Stupid complaint Ragabul.

Nope, that's not it.  Wrex is a badass merc and he's a ME character through and through.  I can't quite put my finger on it with Zaeed.  The name is part of it...Zaeed Massani, Carth Onasi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.  It just fits right in.  The accent is another part.  He's got this Bobba Fett crossed with Canderous Ordo thing going on.  The fact that he's a human combined with all that above stuff is another.  The way he looks.  His general attitude.  It all just screams Star Wars to me.  I didn't say it was iron-clad proof of anything.  I just said he reminds me ludicrously of Star Wars for many reasons.  He doesn't fit in right in the ME mythos for me for some reason.  Neither does Jack (she practically fell out of Weopan X from Ultimate X-men IMO.)  I could write a very long explanation for exactly why I don't think they fit in, but no one would read it anyway so I won't bother you with it.  I didn't say everyone had to feel this way.  I'm just saying why I feel this way.

Ragabul does have a good point. Zaeed always did seem like he would fit right into a star wars niche, but that does not bother me. I mean, Bioware did develop KOTOR, perhaps he is a sort of callout to those days.
