I have had my share of games with an easy ending, but ME2 really takes home the prize. That's not to say it's necessarily bad, since one will probably want to replay it a number of times and savepoints are a bit weird during the last mission.
But still, here's how to win on normal difficulty the complete last mission in 10 minutes tops while drinking vodka and chatting up your significant other who's competing for your attention:
Prerequisites:
- Get the big widow sniper rifle
- Maximize to Heavy Overload both Miranda and Thane
- Fully upgrade your ship
Good to have:
- Take an infiltrator and max out the fireball, cloaking and overall stats to maximize damage
As the mission starts, send Legion in the tube, put Garrus in charge of section 2 and take with you Miranda and Thane. Always be as close to the front as possible, but behind cover. As soon as a group comes and you get enemy lock, fireball a grunt (no shields) to take him out early. Also simultaneously overload with Miranda and Thane the guy Harbinger has taken over. Then leave Harbinger for a few seconds, and fireball/shoot the other grunts. You need to get rid of them before you kill Harbinger or he'll take another over and it just takes longer to kill Harbinger than a grunt. When those are done, re-overload Harbinger and fireball at the same time, then finish him off in a couple of seconds.
That should get you through every wave easy and relaxed, and so quick that Legion in the tube barely has time to whine.
When you need to send someone back with the peeps, send Mordin. Always put Garrus in charge of section 2.
In the part where you need a biotic, take Samarra or Jack, doesn't matter. Do the same as above, except that you should fireball abominations asap before the other losers. Big booms. There's only one tricky part where a bunch of enemies rush you, and you should properly stagger the use of powers so you defend properly. Also here's where you should use the heavy weapon because there's nowhere else you need to.
To beat the big hulking armored guys, shift to the widow sniper rifle, cloak and shoot the head. A couple of those shots + your buddies should get those quickly dispatched.
When you reach the big human reaper, it's a joke. Use the usual dual-overload + grunt killing technique from above to get rid of the peons. As soon as the arms open up, shoot with the handgun. You can shoot two arms at a time. So in 2 small waves the guy is down. Shouldn't take you more than 1 minute total.
Then as he comes back up, shift to the rifle, cloak and shoot the eye. Keep shooting the eye until he hides then recloak and re-shoot. Rinse and repeat for 2 minutes tops.
That's the endgame with everyone alive and happy, where you barely get a scratch.

Insanity is really the way it's meant to be played. All other difficulties are just varying degrees of stupidly easy, and the "Normal" setting is really more like the "Drooling Idiot" setting.
There really needs to be a setting above Insanity, just so the game is actually challenging to those who know how to play it.

I agree. Normal is really an interactive story for casual gamers.
But the tactics above apply to most cases.
