I think the majority of complainers about the mako come from the xbox, the PC controls weren't that bad
ME1 pc version had more favorable reviews too

I play it on the X-box 360 and had no real problem with it at all.

-back on topic....

What is everyone’s favorite planet to visit for that “wow” or “cool” immersion like moment in either game?

The hammerhead comes with 5 linear missions with no exploration. Sorry.

Ok a lot of people who hated the Mako came from the Xbox 360 camp, I can totally understand this because a friend of mine had it on 360 and he showed me the flaw: You have to turn by aiming where you want to go.

In the Pc version the awsd keys controlled direction while the turret was aimed by the mouse. This provided for infinitely smoother control and enjoyability.

Lets please put that topic to rest now and get back to talking about how purty the planets were and how much we miss actually feeling like we are IN the game universe.

I dont know the name of the planet, but the one with the blizzard and the giant blue star was one of my favorites, not to mention the asteroid from Dring Down the Sky, it looked so real and immersive with all the attention to detail they put in that map! Gorgeous <3

but Therum (the one with Liara?) will still have a special place in my heart, when I first saw the fog rising above the lava to be contrasted by the distant blue star my heart skipped a beat...seriously.

Personally, I'd like to see Kahje happen. But that's just because I'm a women and it sounds like it could be all kinds of pretty~

Awesome screenshots. I wish I had the pc version so I could take some screenshots as well. That Maji one is a perfect example of what you don’t see in ME2, nothing even comes close.

Yea there were some awesome looking planets in ME 1, my personal favorites was Amaranthine
Posted Image

I loved how that planet had a bluish/purple texture at certain spots, it looked really exotic. There were also other great planets.

One of the cool things, was on certain planets, if you had to kill some people, you could park on a mountain and snipe them and throw grenades at them. That was pretty fun.

Wrong.
The controls were not exactly good, but thats not the problem with Mako.

For me the only real issue was the verticle mountain climbing. Other wise i liked the Mako, and some
of the worlds in ME 1 were actually kind of nice, the skys were always done well, the view of Earth from
Lunar is one of my all time favorites.

With the exemption of these type of worlds in ME 2, i feel more like a rat in a maze more often. The planet quests
are all the same, get from point A to B. Start at point A, Turn here, turn there, take cover, open safe (get reward),
turn here, turn there, go straight, take cover, go through door, turn here, take cover, arrive at point B get cheese
reward, end mission screen, load screen, back to scanning, rinse and repeat in a new maze.

Man those images are beautiful and make me soooo sad. ME2 gave us NOTHING in space.

Every planet we visited was fleshed out and pretty and all, but they all look like the same jungle/garden of eden type planet because *gasp* our squad would die anywhere else thats prettier or more exotic like the Normandy Crash site.

<_<

It's pretty funny that most of the screen-shots seem to prove my point. Beautiful skybox, but what an emptiness at the bottom. And especially the greener (garden) worlds had horrible texture flaws going on.

EDIT: The binary is so gorgeous, though. There's got to be wallpaper in existence that they based that off. To the Google mobile!

NANANANANANANAAAA!

That is exactly it. the skies are gorgeous vistas of the cosmos. but the ground is all identical brown terrain. the very best we get is green terrain.

It is a sad trade-off, we get really unique side mission content but with no breadth of exploration in ME2. a very sad game design, can you imagine if they kept the current facilities and upgraded the fidelity of the mako exploration from ME1?

I hope they do this in ME3, we need a full fidelity space exploration game.

I agree. I thought that the Mako was boring, but scanning planets is like watching paint dry.

R.I.P.

You brought us to worlds far off, purty and new,

Gave us freedom, jump jets and pew pews.

This game has no worlds to explore, and we are all (admit it) sad that it is so.

Who would have thought that immersion would be so low?

They send us the newer, better you,

But 5 worlds methinks, is just 15 too few.

Dozens of worlds in ME1 now lay,

with no Mako, aliens, or spectres with which to play.

:crying:

So raise your glasses, toast to the planet dropping, jump jet
boosting, tank cannon firing, machine gun zooming best friend...that
someone....[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]...decided to remove along with all those purty places it took us.

The vanilla game should have come with the Mako and standard worlds like in ME1, exploration played too much of a pivotal role in ME1 to not be in the sequel.

The hammerhead pack should have been the upgraded, more intense version of the vehicle with more detailed planet side missions.

Those screenshots show how ME1 gave us the beauty and emptiness of space.

Many people however dont understand the concept of immersion and thus only see the emptiness "boooring".

If you would go to Mars or the Moon, you would see no more than wasteland but still it would be an adventure as you actually are on another planet/moon maybe even admiring your homeplanet from far far away.

BioWare should have improved the exploration with the Mako by fixing the controlls, adding more varried and pleasing awards for exploration and more interesting missions and locations that are surprising and break up the routine once in a while. For example, why was there not a single vehicle chase situation? With better controlls something like this could really open up the box of the third person shooter and be more than that.

ME2 is like Transformers 2. Nonstop action that loses its appeal after a while, since there is no silence in between that makes the action matter.

Oversaturation instead of universal depth and immersion.

@Vena_86

Your reasoning is logical, concise and accurate. I simply wish Bioware had a few more people that saw it like you do.

Also, the same people that mistake immersion for "booring" as you said, would probably be the same kind of person that if sent to the moon for real would get there and go "What? No aliens?...Well this is dumb."

Seriously.
