Which of the two level 4 evolutions of Shockwave do you pick, and why?

Heavy Shockwave hits with more force and (I think) goes farther
Improved Shockwave has a wider effect by a meter, but isn't as strong.

Normally I go with Improved Shockwave, as I mainly used it to clear out unshielded groups and especially husk hordes.  A wider area of effect means a better chance to catch more of them.

However, I've noticed a number of builds on this forum which all seem to pick Heavy Shockwave.  Just curious as to why. :)

Shockwave is generally useless.

i'm assuming this isn't on insanity, but i'd agree with you that impr would be better, less need to aim it and it can hit more people.

But... great wind...

Also improved merely so you can use it on husk hordes

Because of the long cooldown, shockwave is the least useful Adept/Vanguard power on higher difficulties. However, on Veteran or below, it's great. I'd go with Improved since I see it as more of a multi-enemy disable than a damage dealer.

Both evolved versions have the same number of shockwaves. Heavy just hits harder with a smaller radius. Improved hits less hard with a larger radius. Neither one is very useful on hardcore or insanity, as everything has protection and shockwave only knocks people over when they're down to health.

Now if there was a way to get the shockwave that the scions use (they destroy your shields with one hit), then I'd be interested ^_^

Haha, is it really that difficult to knock the shields off a group of enemies before shockwaving them? I did this practically manually on the IFF on insanity and it worked.

Don't forget that Shockwave will stagger armored and shielded opponents. You don't need to be able to target an enemy, just aim in their general direction and hit the hotkey. Don't know if that works on Xbox. Is staggering a group of rushing Husks worth it on Hardcore or Insanity? Make your own call. I used Improved Shockwave on Hardcore to keep the Husks from overwhelming me.

Shockwave hits enemies above you and even if they're in cover. Its fairly useful.

I don't use it very often on my Vanguard (practically never), but I abuse the hell out of Heavy Shockwave with Jack.  I love it.  She's been growing on me the last week or so.

Good point, though I'd generally prefer to fire of a couple of AR blasts while backtracking, then outright kill those husks with pull or throw field.  There's definitely a certain range at which shockwave's stagger is very useful, but I think it's limited to when the baddies are too close to strip armor on even one or two of them.

Avalanche + any area power or just 2 shots from the Avalanche.  Husk problem solved.

I like to use heavy shockwave on the collectors once their shields are down and it knocks them off their platforms so I don't have to deal with actually killing them.

I've already beaten the game on Insanity.... now I play almost exclusively on Veteran (with the exception of Tali's mission, to get the Geth Rifle).

Insanity is... insane. While some might think that having armor on hordes of husks is fun, personally I do not. :)

As far as Heavy Shockwave is concerned..... would the extra force push collectors off platforms when Improved Shockwave wouldn't?

probably but i play exclusively on insanity so having more than one collector down on shields is rare.
