If you take the Paragon path in his mission, and then use the blue charm option at the end, you are basically saying "You wanted revenge, but you put it before your team, and all those people, and that action in and of itself COST you your revenge. Good job."

Zaeed HUMBLY CONCEDES. He basically admits he was completely wrong, and accepts that he screwed up.

THAT is character development. More than most other characters EVER get.

I appreciate and respect a man who can completely screw up and then be humble about it when you force him to see that he was wrong.

So many people ignore this.  Sure, he causes the problem in the first place, but when he's called on it, he totally mans up and puts it aside.

Does everyone do this loyalty mission before they've got enough paragon to access the blue text or what?

From gamefaqs:

Zaeed: "Shepard. Here for a lesson? I remember this one mission, I killed a big krogan."

Shepard: "A lesson? On Vermire, I killed about two hundred krogan and destroyed the cure to the genophage. Oh, and about four hundred Geth. Then I nuked the place."

Zaeed: "Don't touch that! That rifle's killed more men than the Scyllian Blitz!"

Shepard: "That'd be impressive, even for me... on a Tuesday. Morning."

Zaeed: "I remember one time this big man-eating tree tried to eat me. I tossed a grenade into its mouth!"

Shepard: "I killed a fifty-ton billion-year-old mind-controlling plant, and absorbed the knowledge of the Protheans from one of its lackeys."

Zaeed: "Once I killed a big spider thing. It must have been ten feet tall!"

Shephard: "I freed the sole surviving Rachni queen, and then killed an entire corrupted brood of a few thousand of them."

Zaeed: "That's a model of a Turian frigate I took down. Five men, I'm the only one who survived."

Shephard: "This is a model of a Reaper. I destroyed it, saved the galaxy, and lost one soldier from my team."

Zaeed: "Once I tracked a Batarian through a jungle and killed him."

Shepard: "I tracked the Reaper and its pet indoctrinated Spectre outside the charted systems, then crashed through a mass effect relay in an APC, and saved every sentient being in the galaxy."

Zaeed: "Talk more later, Shepard."

Shepard: "Not likely. At least I got an art book."

And that is what I think of Zaeed.

This. There's nothing memorable about the guy and he gives no reason to love or hate him. Zaeed is a very poorly implemented character. I couldn't care less about him.

Well, those who play renegades usually don't have any problems with Zaeed

Truth spoken.

they think Shepard is the hub of the universe, and Zaeed seems to be unaware of this. He just does his job, and does not require babysitting.

Also they have nothing to say to him. Nothing that Zaeed would be interested to hear. And that annoyes them greatly, to the point of total frustration.

Also Zaeed is the only person before entering whose quarters Shepard has to knock at the door.

Admit it, you don't know what Joker does when you leave the Normandy. There's even no more XO having the deck.

So, who else hates Zaeed?

Hmm, I seem to have wandered into the wrong thread.  I like Zaeed.  He reminds me of Travis off Blakes 7.

Or Travis's dad, maybe.

Edit: typo

I don't DIS-like Zaed. he grew on me through some replays, but he's just a "meh" character. Always struck me as a stereotypical merc character you'd see in a Star Wars thing or something. A la Canderous in Kotor.

(Regarding old sig - "Lawks a lordy, my bottom's on fire" - Jeanne D'Arc)

Oh, just a historical quote, though I guess she probably said it in French. (Actually I got it from The Young Ones, about 2 minutes in here).

Back to Zaeed, I wish I could think of who he reminds me of; probably the voice more than the face. Probably someone off The Bill back when it was good. Or maybe Ian Dury.

Edit: new, sillier sig - note added about old one

As TrueHD said: his armor is very similar to Dead Space, I played it right before played ME2 and was slightly shocked about it.

But back to OP: I hated him because he was everything I was fighting against in the game. I understand that he had good reasons to become like this. But as pure paragon I wanted to shoot him and be done with it.

At one point I needed some assault team, so I picked Garus and Zaeed, and he was damn good. But as a personality - had to be killed.

Mainly paragons that hate him. These kinds of threads are pretty pointless though.

I played paragon and I actually liked the bastard, I found him quite usefull as a character in early game. However, once the Normand became crowded, I'd simply stop picking him.

Zaeed: I started by taking a shot in the head from my business partner.
Shepard: I started by being picked for spectre candidate by Ambassador Udina.

Your Gamefaqs fail.

The problem with Zaeed is that he is the first recruitable character and as soon as you get him you get his loyalty mission. No conversation needed; he made a deal with TIM for Shep to do his mission when he takes the job. A lot of people do this early and don't get all the (limited) dialogue options. Without them he comes across as a complete azz and when you get on the Normandy he has no conversation options at all.

He has some interesting comments to make when you take him on missions but for most people its too late for him to redeem himself.

I just hate Zaeed because he looks stupid, talks stupid, and is stupid.  Also, he can't fight.

"I used this rifle to kill a Krogan once, shot him right in the head.  Definitely the highlight of my life."
Shepard then should respond, "Ever heard of Virmire or what I did there?  Yeah, you suck at fighting."

You obviously know next to nothing about Zaeed then. He is one of the more intelligent members of your crew.

Because unlike every other squadmate you can't have true interaction with him, only listen to his observations about certain things. The only time you get to truly interact with him is in his loyalty mission and then it's dealing with the fact he is trying to kill a boat load of innocent people, and that doesn't appeal to everyone.
