Of course, let us not forget the music! JE had an epic score and I loved the themes that would play when you spoke to each character (particularly Silk Fox's theme). The main JE theme has been stuck in my head on-and-off for five years.

That's because Jack Wall worked on it. BioWare's very lucky to have him.

Silk Fox's is one of my favorite tracks too. Excellent choice.;) Her theme and Sky's are great.

The moment I opened that link, I could hear the Silk Fox voice in my head (that has got to be one of the best-suited VA picks BioWare has made)

Master Li's rescue always surprised me. I never expected to be so utterly destroyed by my own built-up confidence. The entire game you get told what a great fighter you are, how you "lay traps" and fool people. Then you get slapped in the face and have to face fact. You are just another fool.

Many good points here too... JE was the game I played after KotOR(2?) when I thought nothing could top it. And Jade Empire simply punched my nose and made me its ****. It wasn't hard, it was just *good*. Short, but executed to perfection. Okay, maybe not perfection.

In the future, if they follow up JE, there are some things they need to think about:

1. Multiple consoles at once: This includes PC, dammit, don't give it to us 5 years later, we risk being spoiled.

2. Smoothen the fighting a bit. It probably felt right at home on consoles, but for PC it was a bit tricky. It could have been improved quite a bit.

3. Surprise us. Fool me. Then punch my teeth out and let me resurrect in a fiery inferno, like a phoenix and make everything right back from total defeat. Please.

Mordaedil, you may wish to do what I recently did. I had the Xbox version of JE back in childhood but when I saw it on Steam, I couldn't resist. I plugged in the Windows Xbox controller and it had the control benefits of the Xbox version with the smoothness and improved resolution of the PC version.

After seeing this thread I fired up my copy of the JE soundtrack and it's taken me right back. Jade Empire is such an amazing game, everything about it was so refreshing and unique, the setting was something I've never encountered before in a game (and something I suspect I won't encounter again unless Bioware makes a JE2),

I think it was the fact that it was based on eastern lore but created by a western developer, so it was free of all the cultural and language issues that don't translate with many eastern developed titles.

About a month before Dragon Age came out I was in dire need of a good fantasy rpg to occupy my time, I fired up my old copy of JE for the xbox and it was just as fun and gripping as the first time I played it, few games can pull me back in so effectively after so long.

*nostalgic sigh*

Cheers for one of the most unique and fun games BioWare has ever made!

They really should make a sequal to this. Surely it would gain enough revenue to justify itself, even if it doesn't make anyone rich.

The first one was plagued with glitches, I think that certainly factored into the reception upon release, as several reviewers commented on that. Nowadays we have X-box Online and things like that so console players can get patches much more easily. I bet it would do quite well even if it had the problems the first one had.

Really? I mean I played the heck out of Jade Empire and do not recall any glitches beyond a few quests not properly paying the reward they should based on dialogue. This comes as a bit of a surprise to me.

Play it. It's definitely worth your while. The Xbox version runs on 360 too, but if your machine can handle it and you own a decent modern gaming pad, I suggest buying it for PC. It's dirt cheap, whether you order a physical copy online or download from Steam, and it has sharper graphics and content missing from its Xbox counterpart.

Jade Empire receives a great deal of criticism. I still think it's one of the best games BioWare has ever made, though.

On the Xbox there was also some stuttering and a couple of freezes. I read several reviews which mentioned simmilar problems. It was still completely worth it though. The reviews I read also said something along this line, one of them even saying they would have given it a perfect score if it wasn't for all the problems they had while playing it.

See if I have one regret about Jade Empire it's that I didn't buy it on PC. They have patches that make it run flawlessly as well as some mods with really great fighting styles (my favorite is the elephant demon fighting style). But all in all a wonderful game with really great characters (the possessed child, the Drunken Bunmaster, The Black Whirlwind)

Jade Empire PC is amazingly bug free compared to BioWare's other games on my PC - every other game loves to slow down and crash over time.

Lordpaul, I would go for it. It's a great game(though the combat is awkward) and it's dirt cheap now.
