I made an application for extracting .afc files to .ogg. It works in similar way to the Gibbed's one, but it can extract any .afc file (including DLC), not only preset ones. Download it at: kypapps.co.cc/index.php/afc2ogg

Wonderful! Thanks for your work on this :-)   A humble feature request: a mode where the program scans any given folder and subfolder and batch-extracts any afc it finds? That would save time for people who would like to extract everything first, then sort thorugh the results.

the program asks (elect a directory for the files to be extracted to) please.

I don't get it: do you mean the fold extractor by Gibbed? Or the new one posted just above your question? In any case, the program should explain itself: either it asks for a source file/directory or for any directory you choose to put the results in.

Does anyone know the filename to the acknowledgement sound when you open a door? (the "doo doo" sound) I have been looking for it for days and cannot find it. I would really like to use that as a ringtone or a text message alert, so if you have any other sound suggestions from mass effect or know the filename to the one I am looking for, please help me out  : D.

I have extracted all files so far, DLC audio files as well.

Posted Image Awesome! Could you make a bittorrent out of it, please? At least for the DLC stuff, since that seems to be the hardest to extract.

PM me for links...

Okay, i updated the app with this feature, get it at kypapps.co.cc/index.php/afc2ogg

Enjoy :)

and btw, it would be nice if you linked to it in your first post in this thread, it would be easier to find this way ^_^

Thank you!!! :-)
EDIT: The source files for DLC audio are not adhering to the naming scheme of the core game, I guess? I can't check myself unfortunately, because I don't have ME2 installed on this machine and the other is out of reach.

I must have deleted my Overlord audiofiles so I'll get to extracting them again in the next few days. I'll try to write a little how-to for you guys so you can extract DLC audiofiles yourself if you like.

One thing I've noticed though is that if I want to extract the files into the same folder as the original *.afc file, it starts extracting them, then it says that "0 files were extracted because they were duplicates" - it actually says the same when I extract them to a different folder but in that case I do actually get the files extracted. Either way, it makes extracting the files much easier now!!!! Thanks a lot :)

oh, i got that fixed, should work with same directory now (if you download it again from kypapps.co.cc/index.php/afc2ogg )

(it was some algorythm error, it extracted, deleted it and said it already existed)

Okay, maybe I'm being dense but I'm running into a few issues with this. Is the AFC2OGG program only for DLC audio files? Because all I end up with when I use Gibbed's Audio Extractor package is a pile of .RIFF files, which I can't seem to do anything with. The WW2OGG converter handle most of them but there are still quite number - the 74 mentioned earlier in this thread, actually - that don't convert.

Is there anything that can be done to convert all the music files from the original game, or are those files that won't convert just out of reach?

BTW, there's another ME2 extraction tool out there, which is what I used for everything except Kasumi's DLC (for some reason, scanning for the audio triggers a breakpoint the guy put into his code). It's called ME2Audiotool:

Emm I kinda need some help with this. I extracted the files without problem, thanks alot for this tutorial :3 BUT, when I try to play them they cut off right at the end. So I can hear most of the words but the last part cuts off. For example when the male engineer, the scottish one, says "I love it when you talk dirty" all I hear is "I love it when you talk di.." After that the file just ends like if it didn't extract the entire file and a short piece is missing. Any solution to this or did I do something wrong somehow? I play them in VLC if that helps.

EDIT: Nvm, I got it working after reading in the forum that it was VLC that screwed them up. :3

You'll find it in the folder "ss_global_hench_grunt_s_int"

The 2 files are "en_us_hench_grunt_ss_global_hench_grunt_00331038_m" and "en_us_hench_grunt_ss_global_hench_grunt_00331039_m".

Hope that helps ^^ And btw, awsome profile pic ;3

Due to the fact that I have Mass Effect on the 360. I was wondering if I could get that bit torrent so I can look through all the sounds and pick the ones I would like to add for the phone.

Much appreciated.

Hey there, I was hoping to find the audio for the lecture the gunnery chief is giving when you enter the Citadel. "Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son-of-a-**** in space!" has gotta be one of my favorite quotes ever :P
Thank you SO much for this thread, and thank you for any help you can provide!

Ha, sorry guys, I found it on my own. Guess I should have looked harder before asking.
For anyone else who is looking, it's under cithub_gunny_a_s_int
Thanks again for this thread!

Due to the fact I got ME2 for the PC as a freebie for buying DA2 on the 360, I figured I'd try to extract the audio, however I'm not having much luck.  I have been trying to use the afc2ogg program, but i'll select the cookedpc folder, make sure the data folder with ww2ogg is in the cookedpc folder, and then set a destination folder but then when I run it it says 0 files successfully extracted.

If I don't put the data folder in the cookedpc folder, it pops up with an error telling me that the folder should be present, however the files are then extracted though apparently not converted.  They appear as microsoft wave files, but they won't play in VLC or anything similar.  Also, afc2ogg references an oko.bat file in the data folder, but I can't see one in there even when hidden files are revealed.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but you are:
You download afc2ogg.zip file. There you have the MassEffect2Afc2Ogg.exe and a folder named Data. You put those anywhere you like, on your Desktop, in your Documents folder, in your Mass Effect installation folder, under your couch.
The only important thing is that the MassEffect2Afc2Ogg.exe is in the same folder as the Data folder. I did put it in the same folder where the save editors and ini-editors are.

That done, you fire it up. You can either extract single files by selecting the .afc files you want to extract or check the tickbox at "Select directory containing .afc files" and extract  all at once. The directory in question is found under C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\CookedPC as default on a Win7 machine. Then you select a directory where you want the extracted files to land e.g. your Desktop. I recomand to also check "Extract each .afc file to seperate folder named as .afc filename" for easy (or rather easier) refrence since the file names can be quite cryptic at start.

All that set, you hit the big fat bold "UNPACK!" button and it should do what it's supposed to do. Don't be worried if the unpacker seems to be frozen and is not reacting. That's normal. Just wait until everything is unpacked, which can take some time.

Now why I actually showed up in this thread:
Where are the sound effects stored? aka Is there a way to extract sound effects?
I've searched everywhere but I can't find them. The only thing I can find though are sound effects in cinematic sequences e.g.g the"shwooooshing" and "bbrrrzzzzz" of the oculus in the cinematics.
I'm searching for all the normal soundeffects e.g.g the lasers, the emptying of the thermo-clip, the "dingdong" and "swosh" when doors open or the YMIR mech rockets and stuff like that.
