Hey guys. I'm looking for the sound effects. Doors, map clicks, stuff like that. Any idea of what folder it would be in? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd also like to know where the menu sounds for the pause menu are. The interface sounds and whatnot. I can't find them anywhere. I specifically want the sounds you get when you press buttons on the menu, open the codex, etc...

 A humble feature request: a mode where the program scans any given folder and subfolder and batch-extracts any afc it finds? That would save time for people who would like to extract everything first, then sort thorugh the results.

Okay, i updated the app with this feature, get it at kypapps.co.cc/index.php/afc2ogg

Enjoy :)

and btw, it would be nice if you linked to it in your first post in this thread, it would be easier to find this way ^_^

Hmmmmm ... It seems there is a problem with this link :

I've had no problems with either the page or the program. It's a matter of trust after all ;-)    I trust a coder who releases a great tool more than some antivirus scanner.

Sorry guys, I haven't found any object-specific sound files either. They must be packaged somewhere else. If anyone knows more about this, please share your knowledge!

Due to popular demand ;-) The team dialogue after the suicide mission can be found in the subfolders "norXY_starter_..." (where XY is the 2 letter code for the team mate). The exact file differs, but it is safe to assume they are neither the smallest nor the first ones in each folder. This includes their comments on keeping or destroying the Collector base.

The menu stuff is in the package "Wwise_Generic_GUI.afc".  Other sound effects for various areas and objects are found in the other files starting with "Wwise".  This utility is capable of extracting the files:

I use MediaMonkey Gold, but there are probably a lot of free alternatives.

I found a file in Yeoman Chambers sound file labelled ""en_us_nor_yeoman_norcr3_ensign_threesome_a_00218997_m"

Interesting cut content, think part of it may have been used in the scream as she is being pulled into the elavator on the Normandy when its attacked ^_^

No, that is the scream when she's being dragged. It's not cut content. The filename is just a joke.  All the "norcr3" files belong to the Collector attack sequence.  If you'll notice, that is the only Kelly audio file in the "norcr3" folders, and she only "says" one thing during the attack.

Yeah, could be an easter-egg, but maybe it's just mislabelled ;-)
In their packaged form, the sound files are probably loaded by ME2's engine based on their ID number. A wrong filename ergo might not cause any glitch in the game.

Anyone know of a sound clip where someone tells shepard something like "if you can't do it" or "if you can't defeat the reapers" ... I'm doing a little project and my original plan isn't matching up ... honestly, I can't remember someone saying something like that in the game at all myself ... doesn't mater who really. Thanks in advance ^^;

No, I'm saying it's not mislabeled.  The file name includes the string "norcr3".  That means it's part of the Collector attack.  And indeed, it is: that's simply Kelly's scream, and someone just gave it a goofy filename.

If you're interested in converting .ogg files to mp3 I found this link useful;

http://www.afterdawn..._ogg_to_mp3.cfm

You'll have to download a few applications but it is very easily explained and there are links provided for everything required. I have already used this guide and have been able to convert the files without a problem. Hope this was some help to you.

without loosing any audio?

Most ways Ive seen cuts out some of the audio, seems like the ogg files are timed so that they end about 2-3 seconds before the actual audio is done

BTW, Thanks in advance for any and all help and suggestions!

You shouldn't lose any audio using the method from the link. It could depend on what application you're using to playback the files. Like make sure there is no crossfade or fade in/out settings selected. It could seem like audio is being lost because the ogg files are very short. The problem is many of the ogg files are not even an entire sentence said by a character. Like there could be a run off to another sentence at the end of the file which makes it seem like there is audio loss. You'll just have to play the corresponding audio files one after another to eliminate that issue.

What media player are you using?  If it's VLC, it's had that bug with ogg files for ages. Just get the Xiph.org codec pack for Windows, and they'll play perfectly fine in Windows Media Player.

I've been trying to extract audio from the ME1 files (i.e. .upk); one program (MEPCAudioUPK by derPlaya) extracts audio in .wav, but doesn't extract all of them (in my case it did 55 out of 255). I've used a couple of other programs to extract and they have extracted all the files, but in .RIFF format. I saw this mentioned here a few times but I have no idea how to extract audio from the RIFF files. There seem to be no converters and no programs can seem to open it. Does anyone here know how to convert/use these?

Ladies and Gentlemen!

Someone just pointed out the obvious to me via PM, effectively making my whole lovely audio finding and extraction guide irrelevant ;-) I can live with that, don't worry!

The numerical IDs in the audio files apparently match the dialogue line IDs in the .tlk subtitle files. This neat little tool is supposed to read and convert those, so one can do a simple text search for in-game phrases, note the ID number and find that in the extracted audio files.

Haha, so obvious once you know it m-) And here we were, searching through cryptic file and folder names :-D

Thanks for this thread! I'm having a hard time finding the files for Shepard finding resources, like when he says, "This looks interesting." I might be slightly retarded

Did you try "cit _news" or just "news"?

Edit: Ah, no, that was for ME3. In ME2 it's "cithub_mainnews...".
