The OP and Terror_K do have a point. ME2 does indeed feel more like a port than ME1. The game is missing shortcuts for weapons. I also feel that the menus are hard to navigate. Simple things like double click don't work.

Controls=/=unpolished.

Ive played many games with poor controls(pc included), however that dosent mean the game was unpolished. Maybe it was a poor design choice.

Having owned both, I fully disagree that the PC version feels compromised in quality on any level.

I just wish there was easier weapon selection, but that's about it. Keys to see my journal, map and experience would come next, but those aren't as vital (personally).

ME2 feels more like a port since it uses the same HUD where as at least ME gave us a better HUD that was designed for the PC.

I miss the mouse scrolling I could do in ME1. I could scroll through anything, it was like magic. And then it all went away in ME2. I don't read Codex entries any more, it's too painfully irritating to use the scroll bars.

While I'm sure that ME2 isn't a true direct port, I'd have to say that the controls, menus, and options were certainly not designed around a keyboard and mouse. I'd also have to say that some of the game play elements feel more suited to a console than PC, but that's probably just me.

Also, the game was clearly intended to have all the recruitment options open from the start, which seems to have been axed to design around a multi-disk user experience. The fact that you can get around this with some save editing indicates that the PC version shouldn't have had this limitation, but it does.

In addition to the things already mentioned, another thing that irked me was that the tutorial hints don't acknowledge when I assign new key bindings. I know it's not a big deal, but it conveys a certain lack of polish to the game. IIRC then ME1 took notice if my keys were reassigned and would adjust on screen texts accordingly, but ME2 doesn't. The reason I'm mentioning this issue here, is because I'm not sure whether keys are reassignable in the console version.

yeah it was obviously primarily developed for 360, that was even more evident than with Fallout 3 (am I allowed to say that? autocensor :P)

Also wasn't it demiurge that ported 1 on bioware's behalf? just minor trivia :)

I think it was developed primarily with the Console in mind, but in tandem with PC development. I noticed my PC version has some XBOX tutorial videos on disk, and when I bring up the Galaxy Map, the ABXY buttons are shown for a moment.

I miss weapon mapping for sure. Beyond that, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Ya, I like ME2 plenty, better than ME1 actually, but it's pretty pretty apparent there are many glaringly obvious things that didn't get fixed related to keyboard functionality.

Wait you can't remap your keybindings on the PC? If thats true thats incredibly lame...Thats pretty much my main draw when it comes to buying PC games. I'm glad I bought it for the 360.

You can remap your keys and they'll work, but all the pop-up help messages on screen containing info on which key to use, will still list the standard bindings and not the ones you assigned.

That's completely normal for PC games, or atleast the ones I've played.

Erm what are you talking about?

ME was clearly a port, as evidenced by the often-poor performance. ME2, in contrast, was optimised for the PC and 360 at once, so it performs beautifully.

This. Except for a few tell-tale signs, if you didn't tell me that ME2 was also developed for consoles --- I wouldn't be able to tell.

I bought it being slightly worried that it would perform worse than ME1 PC did (which was already only just over the line of "playable" framerates for me. I was pleasently surprised when it ran much smoother!

I didn't run into any hotkey problems. But perhaps I use certain functions less than other people.

I think the PC version is decent enough, can't really complain about it, esp playing game like assassin's creed...

I agree with the OP *but* I've seen much worse ports than this. The inability to scroll with the mouse wheel is annoying but not a game-killer, especially as so little time is spent reading scrollable text. The inability to hotkey weapons is not ideal but at least you can switch by pausing the game, so no time is wasted. The worst thing for me is the way the abilities bar in the top left gets messed up when you retrain skills, and if I try to re-arrange it I get a CTD every time. The only way I can re-arrange it without CTDing is by saving and then reloading and then re-arranging the bar before I do *anything* else. Then I can re-arrange it, but even then it still has problems that don't go away (icons don't show as red when they should; medigel counter is fubar).

I bought the PC version of ME2 (and Me1) - my friend bought the Xbox version... other than the controls (mouse vs controller), the games are identical in every way. Both have exact same visual quality, both run pretty much perfectly smooth (assuming you have a semi-decent computer and not some stupid Dell PC with on-board video).

When I play it on my friend's Xbox, it feels identical to my PC version... other than the fact I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard. You can tell it wasn't merely ported to PC - it clearly looks and feels like the game was made side-by-side for both systems.

Mass Effect 1 though was much better on PC than when I played on Xbox... though this was probably because the PC version came out like 1/2 a year or more after the Xbox version and they had time to refine the game (but man, the PC version of ME1 really was a lot better than the Xbox version... Loading times, texture popping and all sorts of other problems plagued the Xbox version that never occured on the PC version.. if you had a decent PC).

However, ME2 is identical on both.
