I've never been able to play a MaleShep game. I CAN NOT STAND Mark Meer's voice-acting in these games. I'd rather listen to Harbinger's ranting than Meer's bland zombie voice. Something about his voice just grates on my nerves.
I agree. With all due respect, I think Mark Meer's voice acting is absolutely godawful. Granted, I'd be playing a female Shepard even if John was voiced by David Hayter, but that doesn't change the fact that Jennifer Hale is leagues above Mark Meer.
Proof of an endless debate! Once again restating I thought Jennifer Hale was godawful. I am starting to believe that Jennifer Hale's support in this game stems pure fanboyism/girlism or whatever because I can't see how Hale was better than Meer. No offense to anybody!

I wouldn't mind the options if there were more of them. As it is now all of them are terrible. Another thing is that BioWare seems to care more about external influences nowadays. Even the sex scenes that were innocent as hell in ME1 got toned down.
The game can't cater to everyone. Some people like the female LI options. Some people hate them. Some people obsess over them. Some people hate maleShep's VO. Some hate femShep's VO. Some want a Volus squaddie for ME3, some think they're the ME equivalent of DnD gnomes. People find issues with the swearing, graphics, lack of Mako, too much Mako, DLCs, characters acting too out-of-character for the characters we perceive them to be, fish dying, too much sex, not enough sex... if the game managed to please everybody who played it even 70%, it's doing well. All the devs can do is draw a line up the middle and try to go with what the majority want to see.

Therein lies the problem. Broken Sword is a great game, IMO, but I'm sure nobody would be happy if they turned ME3 into a 2d point-n-click adventure game just because I think it's good.
One man's good is another man's pile of steaming crap.

I loved KOTOR and she did a great job on Bastila. Totally different from the Shepard voice. When I got ME I didn't realize it was the same person until someone mentioned it.
On the Shepard voices - I prefer hers, but I don't have a problem with Mark Meer. In fact he is the voice for my male Shepard and I'd really lose all sense of cohesion if either of their voices were changed for any reason.

The Tali romance. In ME1 I only played femsheps until 2 came out. I liked the Liara romance so/so, the Kaiden romance was VERY sweet.
As for the voice-acting, both do a pretty damned good job except for Hale's "Move Out!" after a quiet, normal conversation, and Meer's in the same situation.... and I don't blame the voice-actors for that, it just seems like a bad cut, or something... Like...
"Blah, blah blah, you did great, blah blah blah, really and this is how your species does so and so?"
"MOVE OUT!"

THIS. Why does this topic keep coming up? People are not going to change their preferences. All that's going to happen is a flame war between Hale fans and Meer fans. The choice is subjective as either side has compelling reasons to prefer their own way. Do we have to argue endlessly about the supposedly obvious choice as to which gender to play?

Not if said group of people repeatedly states "We'd like...X" and then a huge majority of people agree with them. Then, you don't have to guess that people will like it, you know that they will. Nobody goes into making games for the purpose of creating something they think people might not like.

Choosing what a certain fanbase likes goes against ME's realism. I'd rather something unexpected happened rather than an entire game that's been regurgitated by a group of fanfic people.Llandaryn wrote...

And One-Liners like "you' talk too much" *shoots a gas pipe engulfing the bad guy in flames" just come out alot cooler with a male main protagonist imo ;-)
and yea, what others say.. Why do we keep arguing about subjective preferrences?

Not if the suggestions fall within the boundaries of what can be considered "real" for the ME universe. Nor was much of what is optional 'forced' on a player -- you can be male OR female. You can stick with your ME1 LI, have a new LI, or ignore the romances altogether.
What Bioware has done -- listened to the opinions of its customers, and implemented some changes based on said feedback -- is called impact measurement. It's something that a great deal of businesses do, from a whole range of areas. The company that doesn't listen to the views of its customers, at least some of the time, will ultimately fail.
As for "something unexpected rather than an entire game that's been regurgitated by a group of fanfic people"... I think most of the game was 'unexpeted', from small things like the revelation of the Collectors being Prothean, to the way the story developed in a linear fashion and spent the vast majority of its time recruiting and winning the loyalty of squadmates. These things are certainly something that Bioware came up with on their own (as opposed to catering to us unwashed masses who dare voice suggestions) yet they also give us choice in a variety of things -- gender, appearance, love interests, who you take along on each mission -- so in effect, we have the best of both worlds. Fan-requested content, like getting rid of the Mako and implementing 2 former ME1 squadmates as recruitable and romancable ME2 squaddies, and the stuff Bioware came up with to surprise us.
And whether you liked the style of ME2 or not, you were no doubt surprised by its difference to ME1.

Hale also did a better FemShep in ME1, but her work was still far superior to Meer's in ME2.
And, yes, personally I prefer to play as female characters, but MaleShep has 3 of the 4 interesting romances in ME2...

I can understand a preference for one over the other, but the people who are like "I can't figure out how people are so stupid as to like the voice actor I hate" are ridiculous.

My other issue is that I prefer camo design on my N7 armor, and that seems to look much better on fem sheps than it does on male sheps. Just an opinion.
