DLC and Registration Issues: February 26, 2010

The reason? BioWare servers were down (I couldn't get into the boards unitl now). Tried the game just now and it's working properly now that the servers are back up.
This is ridiculous and eventually I will just go find a cracked version of the DLC THAT I PAID FOR! Being unable to play a single player game because of server or internet problems is unacceptable BioWare.

Has anyone genuinely had their problems solved yet - either by Bioware advice or EA customer support advice? I've followed many different courses of official procedure so far and whenever one problem is solved, a new problem arises.

I know devs ask themselves "How could DRM possibly drive people to piracy?", well....this is how.
All we ask is that we can play the games we buy. Simple enough, it's like anything else you buy...you expect to be able to use it.
Imagine buying a new vacuum and then having to call Bissel everytime you wanted to use it. Yeah...that would be going back to the store for a refund in a hurry but software developers DO expect you to "authenticate" every time you start a game but they have it rigged where you can't even take it back for a refund once you find out how horrible the DRM is. The reviews, yeah...they sold the game as having a cd-check only and no online authentication so you really have to buy the game to find out about this nonsense.
The problem with online authentication is that even for those of us with good connections, we cannot control our ISP nor can we control the servers on BioWare or EA's end. Essentially, the ability to play the game is not in our hands.

PD- Is all about the damn service, is in manual if set to Auto (I think), it should work.
First try and manually start the service just to make sure that it will run properly :
1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

I bought the Deluxe Edition off Steam, and i'd like to get my hands on Return to Ostagar but quite literally, the social.bioware.com website won't let me. When I go into DA:O and hit "Add Points", it pops up a new page on my browser which takes me to the Bioware Social user homepage. So then I go to "Profile", click on "Add Bioware Points", and again it takes me to the user homepage. I tried it in Chrome, in Firefox, in IE, same result every time, I end up back at my user homepage. Any ideas?

Nothing above suggests any workaround.
Being a programmer, the proper response to this problem is to temporarily turn off the validation checks until they figure out the permanent fix. The poor response to this problem is locking people out of the game!

I purchased all 3 DLC. I downloaded them successfully. I played all three. Now all three are marked as "invalid", and I can't play any part of the game.

The likely cause of your problem is that the Dragon Age Origins Content Update service isn't running. Try manually starting it before you star the game to see if that helps:
1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START
If it doesn't start see Section 5 of the DLC In-Game Errors FAQ for more help. If it starts manually, and you want it to start automatically more reliably Patch 1.03 includes some fixes for the service.

Shale, I could redeem the code, but there was nothing saying 'Download' in the screen on IE or Firefox, nor in the game.

I have a little problem with the downloadable content. I bought the Dragon Age from the store and I have DLC for the Blood Dragon Armor and for Shale. I redeemed the codes and could download the Blood Armor, but it doesn't show up in My Downloadable Content in the game.

What you downloaded for the Blood Dragon Armor was likely the Mass Effect 2 download. Dragon Age doesn't provide direct DLC download. Dragon Age DLC is supposed to download automatically when you log into the game with the same email address and password as your account here (that you redeemed the codes with.). There are enough hiccups with that process that there is a rather extensive Redeemed DLC Troubleshooting FAQ.
As a first step, if things are downloading, make sure the Dragon Age Orgins Content Update service is running. Try manually starting it before you start the game:
1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.

I got dragon age installed on two pc's. Return to Ostagar works on one, but when I try to play on my other PC, it says Unauthorized, says the account doesn't have it. But it's the same account on both PC's.
How are you dealing with sharing data between the two PC's? Are you sharing a My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\profile.dap file, or do they each have their own? Try either copying the profile.dap from the PC that works, or forcing a new one to get regenerated on the PC that isn't working (delete/rename the one that is there and a new one should get created when you log in.).

This along with degrade in performance and longer loading problem that has lasted for months and the problems buying "Bioware points" to actually get RTO working have made whatever good game is there, a bother. This game and the whole concept of the making more money tackling re-sales and making money from DLC have caused nothing but trouble, more so than any other game I have bought in recent years. I bet pirates never had many of the problems I'm having.
Edit:
Yea, So I just checked, I saved the game with an autosave and quick-save while the content was missing, and the autoloads prior are many, many hours back. So basically, that's a good odd 3 hours of gameplay down the drain and all quality weapon, Armour e.t.c.... gone. So, yea, thanks for that randomised slap in the face.

Should there be a persistent open window, for example? Or should I be checking that the service is running using Task Manager?
When I've tried this, something flashes up for a moment, but I'm not clear whether that counts as "manually starting"?

1. Move everything in your AddIns folder to a secure location.
2. Download corresponding .dazips
RTO:
http://na.llnet.biow...nt/DAO_PRC_CP_1
/DAO_PRC_CP_1_1.1.dazip
Warden's Keep:
http://na.llnet.biow...NRX_1_1.0.dazip
Shale:
http://na.llnet.biow..._CP_2_1.0.dazip
3. Start daupdater.exe (usually in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship)
4. Select the .dazip files and click install selected.
5. Move other AddIns back into \\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\AddIns folder
6. Start the game again.
Possibly you need to start the da content updater service manually:
Start > run
type in services.msc
find the da content updater service > right click and start.

I found that I had to use the InstallUtil command to manually install DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe. It took 5 or so tries to finally get it to work for me. I then found it manually in the services.msc.
In the end, I'm very thankful that this game's DRM isn't as bad as UBISoft's draconian DRM. *sigh*

Forgot to add this after you have followed these steps you do need to restart the da content updater service else your dlc will keep saying it's unauthorized.

In the Services list when a service is started it will say "Started" in the status column. Also the options available will change from just "Start" to "Stop" and "Restart". There is no window that stays open, unless there is an error message. You should see also DAUpdaterSvc running in the Task Manager under Services.

After trying many steps, including the Hamishes Unofficial FAQ and the methods listed above, none of which worked for me. I uninstalled the game, and used the 1.02 patch instead of the 1.03.
Obviously it is possible that the reinstallation has somehow solved the problem for me, but all is well now.
My feeling about this is that I understand this is a new system and one which I belive is used across different platforms, but it really isnt good enough. It's just fortunate that DAO is such a fine fine game and that the awsomeness of this title, in some way mitigates these problems with DLC.

When I started the game, RTO's DLC status had changed from "Buy" to "Available for Download".
