My glasses, dammit. I'm near-blind when I take them off, and when I wake up in the early mornings I want to be able to find them without having to pat around for 15 minutes or so.

Adjustable glow-in-the-dark then. Brightness and duration configurable either by timer or push-a-button activation.

I wanted to say dogs, but I guess they aren't a mundane item.  I'll second your dog collar idea.  Black labs disappear at night.  There doesn't have to be any snow.
