Maybe, maybe not. I could see Leliana having the connections to have someone else with more pull rat out Marjolaine. And even if she didn't, Marjolaine was paranoid - she probably figured Leliana COULD still have the power/connections to rat her out. That's the thing about paranoid people. They warp logic.

plus her connections must have been crappy if they couldnt ask around about why the annoying red haired french girl was leaving (and thats ignoring the darkspawn horde about to destroy the town)

I always saw Leliana working for Marjolaine and never really having other connections...  or that those connections would be willing to help (considering the type of people they must have been)

Bah this makes want to go into the game and question Leliana about her past.

I still think at some point that Marjolaine had affection for Leliana... though

It's one of those things we can't prove or disprove, but can leave only to personal interpretation. I remain in the "Marjolaine is a paranoid, crazy, selfish b*tch and never cared about Leliana" camp.

She's paranoid and manipulative. I very much doubt Marjolaine ever did anything in regards to Leliana other than for her own personal gain. Leliana was a useful tool. When that tool because too dangerous to use, Marjolaine tried to get rid of her. I don't think she was ever broken up about betraying Leliana. Merely worried what Leliana knew could be used against her.

Leliana says that Marjolaine wasn't always what the PC sees. When they started off, Leliana was no threat to Marjolaine at all, and Marjolaine was a happier person in general.

I imagine that they've known one another for a significant amount of time (maybe 7 to 10 years) and Marjolaine changed into a paranoid and hard woman the longer she stayed in the game. By the time she betrayed Leliana, she probably no longer cared, but at the beginning, she might have.

If the PC is female, Leliana says that they're very alike. You'd think that's something Leliana would want to run away from. Another point for 'Leliana replaces Marjolaine with the PC.'

It's also funny that it's another example of a love interest comparing the female PC to an ex but no one seems to mind.

I can't recall if Leliana comments on Ferelden's smell, but I know Sten does.



Good point about Leliana saying Marjolaine used to be different, but I'm pretty sure Leliana also muses that Marjolaine may have always just been pretending. That's what I tend to think, myself.



She also compares a male PC to how Marjolaine used to be. I think she does it to any Warden who does her quest, romance or not - but I'm not positive. It's been too long since I played a Warden who did the Marjolaine quest without also romancing Leliana.

I don't doubt it's meant to be, but I've always gotten it with my male Amell, and I've romanced her with him four times. Had it every time. Maybe it's a bug in my game, but I know I've heard it with him. On both my Xbox copy and PC copy.

iv heard that quote as well and I play males 99% of the time as well

That whole bit was what I was trying to remember. Doesn't she say right after that comparison though that your much better then her? I guess I have to make another character and romance her again my memory is getting faulty... 

And as for the smell thing I don't really recall Leliana saying that... and if she did it was probably gentle and sweet and I didn't mind because I love her voice so...

I think there was another line that was noted to be used for female only, but ended up available to both genders - and it's one of the things Dialogue Tweaks changed. My guess is it was originally meant to be female only, but they decided to change it to both genders and just left the old notes. Who knows? Not really that important of a detail.

Ok so I went to the save I have at camp at my male right where I have to choose between to the two sexy ladies. (Cuz I love Leliana's comments about discussing darkspawn with morrigan and "different girls for different days of the week" ) and I choose Leliana so i could talk to her about Marjolaine and she does say it!!! I asked her if she met someone who made her feel that way and she said no... talked about her a bit and then i picked "you miss her" and she says "i do, i always will but i will move on and and I think i have, you are like how she used to be a joy to be around... blah blah"

hmm having Leliana say "i love you" to my male is so unsettling (especially since she just said no havent met someone else who made me feel that way) glad i chose Morrigan

Gah you got me thinking about that moment when the pc calles her crazy after the butterfly/eyelashes comparison and she giggles "Liar, you thought I was crazy when we first met." and I just started laughing and had this urge to hug my tv...

*Razz berry* I'm just generally not one for self-promotion on a thread that's not related to my work. It feels too egotistical, even when somewhat relevant to the discussion. So back a bit more on topic before I feel any more narcissistic!

The first time I heard the infamous "butterflies/eyelashes" line, I simply burst out laughing. Never found it creepy, but I perfectly understand why some would. It just was so... Appropriately strange, I guess.

While that is ridiculously cute, as in it makes hugging Leliana a sufficient pleasure in its own right; I have to say that Morrigan's proposal is much better. And she has a playful nature as well.

Morrigan: *giggle* "No, you will have to carry me!"

I prefer Leliana's for the sheer lulz factor of her expressions to an oblivious Warden. I swear, one quick expression just screams, "Holy Maker, no man/woman could possibly be this dense!"
