 I understand all the rallying and support on the boards for our favorite characters to be on the squad in ME3. I really do. But, if you really care about these characters, wouldn't you rather see them move on? Especially in the anticipation of what we must expect to be the final battle.

Miranda/Jacob fans- Is the most you hope for them to be your second-in-command? Is that your full expectation of their potential? That goes for Garrus, too. Don't you want him climbing back on the command horse and putting together his own team? 

Kaiden/Ashley fans- They've drawn their line in the sand. However they might feel about you, they're Alliance soldiers. How do you expect them to react when an ex-Spectre, touched by the same artifacts as Saren, arrives out of the shadows with an army of Geth, Krogan, and Rachni at his(her) back? Do you require everyone you love to spit on their principles and other allegiances on your word? I don't call that love.

Tali fans- Wouldn't you rather see her raised to the Admiralty and, after being largely absent the whole game, show up in the nick of time- with the whole Quarian fleet- during the final assault?

Liara fans- If she does take the Shadow Broker down, that would leave a considerable vacuum in the secrets industry that she would be particularly well-placed to fill. Where is she going to be the most valuable?

The characters I see as the best choices- purely from a character perspective- for ME3 squadmates:

Jack: Has the most to gain in terms of personal growth in a setting where she's part of a group. She's already part of one on the Normandy and she's going to have trust issues with any group that forms around her out on her own.

Grunt (and/or Wrex): Things could go any number of ways on Tuchanka. Any number of these could end with Grunt or Wrex ending up on the final mission.

Aria: 1) Loses everything if everyone in the galaxy is brainwashed and enslaved by the Reapers. 2) How frickin' sweet would that be?

Dr. Chakwas: I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for that romance storyline. (I'm only half-kidding).

Zaeed: Obviously, I'm a big fan but the "Zaeed Massani Support Thread" is dark and full of spiders.

I'm really interested in what other people think about these ideas, though I understand that some of them are controversial and I totally expect to get flamed. Please, just try to keep them creative.

Miranda and Jacob technically quit Cerberus if you've destroyed the collector base. Miranda has been essentially nurturing Shepard for the last 2 years as if she gave birth to him. She doesn't have much reason to leave now, so they're potential squadmates.

That goes for Garrus, too. Don't you want him climbing back on the command horse and putting together his own team?

He tried that. They all died.

Tried Spectre too, gave up on that.

Kaiden/Ashley fans- They've drawn their line in the sand. However they might feel about you, they're Alliance soldiers. How do you expect them to react when an ex-Spectre, touched by the same artifacts as Saren, arrives out of the shadows with an army of Geth, Krogan, and Rachni at his(her) back? Do you require everyone you love to spit on their principles and other allegiances on your word? I don't call that love.

Who knows about these two...I won't argue about this one.

Placing Tali on the Admiralty Board is like immediately placing Grunt as the head of Clan Urdnot. Neither of them are old enough to be respected. Tali isn't anywhere near as work-oriented as her father was, too.

Liara fans- If she does take the Shadow Broker down, that would leave a considerable vacuum in the secrets industry that she would be particularly well-placed to fill. Where is she going to be the most valuable?

Either Liara or Samara is coming back, unless they plan on bringing back Carrie-Anne Moss. Samara can die in two places, making her situation even more complicated. Liara is a lock for squadmate unless she dies in an expansion pack.

Jack: Has the most to gain in terms of personal growth in a setting where she's part of a group. She's already part of one on the Normandy and she's going to have trust issues with any group that forms around her out on her own.

Already has trust issues with everyone except Shepard. Complete liability.

We've already been introduced to three different Asari Commando biotics. Like I said - Carrie-Anne Moss.

Technically, he's still DLC. Doubtful.

Secrets industry? I can't remember where, but doesn't the Shadow Broker sell information without disrupting the balance of power in the galaxy? There's no need for the Shadow Broker it seems.

Plus, I don't want my staying away from romancing Tali in ME2 because I liked Liara so much in ME1, and want it to be that much better when she goes back to kicking bums at my side in ME3.

Speaking as a Kaidan fan, and a frequent to the Kaidan's threads...we actually understand why Kaidan didn't join you on Horizon, and why he has issues with you and Cerebus....and then he sends you email explaining this further, and how he isn't quite ready to let you go yet either...he's just got put things together now that Shep's alive and working for/with Cerebus.

So no "letting go" here

And why the heck would anyone want their favorite character (whichever it is) gone for most of the game.  There's not a lot of sense being made here.

Nope, sorry. I'd rather work with Tali directly in game to negotate a peace with the Geth, get them back their homeworld to put their non-combat personnel on and gain both the Migrant Fleet, and the Geth working together during the final assault.

Doing things with me is far superior to doing things offscreen.

That's why I chose the phrase "get back on the horse." 

Also, I explicitly addressed Garrus fans, and the reason I gave for not including Garrus as a squadmate in ME3 is pro-Garrus. It's constructed as a reason for someone who likes and cares about Garrus /not/ to want them as a squadmate in ME3. That's the conversation that I'm trying to have here.To pick apart the argument from the other side doesn't address the issue I'm trying to talk about. I appreciate the fast response, but I would have preferred a more thoughtful one that addressed the issue raised in the original post. I apologize if I didn't express myself well enough in the original post for people to understand. I hope this response clears that up.

Making tali an admiral doesn't make any sense at all. She's pretty much bound to the ship. I doubt BioWare would make the point of changing her name to vas normandy unless they have her planned to stick with shepard.



No doubt they could have foreseen the massive amount of fans she has.

well truth is, all ME2 chars can die, so either we get a option to choose them for ME3 ( wich will lead to a huge voice acting cost for bioware) or the fanatics that roam this forums will have to stick with some nice cameos, Liara and Kaidan/ Ashley however will be back, thats why they were left out of ME2.

I apologize if I was nitpicking with the argument.

Mass Effect 3 is the last game of the trilogy, I don't think most people will mind if their squadmates died trying to stop the Reapers. It's not like they're going to come back.

We don't even know if Shepard is going to survive the Reapers yet, after all.

I see no reason for their to be a line that Kaidan/Ashley can't cross if we come back and abandon the whole Cerberus gig. (Which I did).
