Well, clearly both Mhairi and the bald dude, simply by virtue of their outfits, are destined to be Redshirts. I mean, they did warn us about that Joining business, and Mhairi seems awfully over-eager ;)

God, everytime I hear/see Ser Cauthrien's name I want to punch a baby. It pisses me off so much when she says, "...your betters are talking.", all I wanted was aline afterwards that simply stated, "F*** off, I am a Grey Warden. I am the betters."

My female Cousland chopped her head off...  Now that was satisfying...

It will happen in approximately 50 minutes (I do not run Curse and cannot promise it will be EXACTLY on teh hour. Be patient).

And yes, Mhairi is actually quite hot. So much so, a certain dwarf even makes comments about her amazing rack.

Is it just me or are many of the male characters in DA:O inordinately fixated on mammaries?  Say what you want about Alistair, but at least his weakness is wet frocks!:crying:

The frock being wet makes the mammaries all the more easy to see.

Yes, he's more sort of... rounded.  Point taken about the frocks, mind.

Actually, I like the way they are genderizing this party. The hard skills (tank, rogue) being taken by females while the softer (mage) by males. As a female player I find that positive. And, yes, despite decapitating her, I too wanted my own Ser Cautherine. Perhaps I was jealous...

You make a good point, and I for one am glad this is the direction they've taken the party. We also get a female mage, of course, and likely a male rogue. However, if the male rogue is the one in the Penny Arcade comic (likely), he seems to be the more covert spy sneaking-style rogue, the infiltrator - traits perhaps viewed as more 'traditionally' feminine, as opposed to Sigrun, who seems to specialise in close-quarter combat and fighting groups of enemies, which fits battle in the Deep Roads. The male rogue will probably be more of a ranged rogue as well, which puts a nice gender reversal on the Leliana-Zevran dynamic of DA:O. I'm really eager to get to know these characters.

Now I'm torn - I was going to take Oghren on my first run, since my human noble ended the game on good terms with him and would probably appreciate having a returning ally at her side. But now I'm tempted to make an all-female party of darkspawn slaying Amazons.

Did that in BG, loved it.  BTW, you look like me but in blonde...

Okay, THIS is cool!

And I didn't until now realize you could play as an Orlesian Warden. That sounds interesting.

Seems like they are balancing the classes equally between genders for the Awakening party:

Mages we have Anders and Velanna

Warriors we have Oghren and Mhairi

And Rogues we've got Sigrun and possibly the male rogue character

An elf rogue would balance it completely, but we already had Zevran. So I guess it will be a human rogue or something special like Shale or the dog.

I do like that Anders is a mage and Mhairi is a warrior... I just hope they made the characters deeper than they look at first glance. A female dwarf would be nice, but on second thought, I like to think they're saving that for a love interest for DA2. ;)

I just hope the plight of the elves and the culture of the dwarves plays a part, however subtle... those were two of the most interesting things about DA. If not in Awakening, I'd like to see more in the actual sequel. *wonders if she'd sound like a jerk if she said humans were kinda boring*

They already have announced a female dwarf - her name is Sigrun and information about her can be found here. She isn't a love interest though.

Sigrun is a rogue I think. But yay - now can leave the vile Oghren permanently in camp.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. If the last character beats Velanna then there might be hope for this expansion after all. Beathag, my rogue dwarf, Sigrun, Mhairi and ... ?! Yes, we'll see.

*gawks* Well... I missed that! Holy crap. AWESOME. Thanks for pointing that out!

Natalia Cigliuti, no less! She was quite good as Morinth in ME2. *jumps up and down* A tough female dwarf from the Legion of the Dead! Okay, now I'm psyched. :D

I thought you'd like that! Image IPB She's my favourite of all the announced characters.

I'm actually kind of sad that we can't romance Sigrun or Mhairi, but maybe there's hope for them returning and being LIs in a future expansion. Maybe.

But yes, I too am pleased to see the gender-shift from the OC, where the girls were mages and archer rogues and the boys were warriors and melee rogues with the sole exception of Shale.

I really hope they do return, but I'm not sure how likely it is depending on where further expansions and sequels are set. And of course, whether they survive...

TBH, I'm always unsure of exactly how to refer to Shale's gender. I usually default to she, but Shale points out that, as a golem, Shale has no gender. However, 'it' is incredibly dehumanising, and Shale does have a person inside, and not because she ate him. Its a pity there isn't a common gender-neutral pronoun in English.

I just call Shale "she" out of respect, as there tends to be more associated with the words than just parts.
