Try saying that title five times fast.

One thing has been sitting in my mind the past few days, and it's probably one of the least significant (or pretty significant, depending on how Bioware does it) parts of the final installment of the trilogy: The introduction sequence.

So the first game, you made your Shep and it gradually worked your way into putting him or her into a position where Shep has his/her own crew and ship, and a mandate to save the galaxy from Damon Baird Saren Arterius and his flock of heretic geth.

In the second, you promptly kick the bucket, your ship gets mowed down by the world's largest termite mound, and a bunch of red shirts and your somewhat cynical navigator die in spectacular fashion. The game then cleverly allows you to reshape your face in the pretense that Cerberus is rebuilding your not-so intact body and can do whatever the hell they want with it. Namely, if they decided your Asian Shepard with red hair and purple eyes with the crew cut and clean shaven (or no make up) was a fashion faux pass in life, they decided to rebuild Shepard as a black (wo)man with blonde hair, blue eyes, decided to throw in a large facial scar, and longer hair and a goatee (or green eye shadow). Now let's see the galaxy match THAT trend setter! So after playing God, and Shepard being slightly confused upon first finding a mirror (and wondering why his/her guns decided to throw back a few centuries worth of technology by pretending they have ammunition when they don't), Shepard is reunited with a recoiling Joker who tries to retain his composture and pretend he recognizes Shepard, and they are shown a bigger, better, and more badass Normandy! And so, the galaxy needs saving again!

So after dealing with that thread, the Normandy looks like it's had better days (hint; it has), and everyone theortically surives the suicide mission or is rescued! Shepard, you are the (choose gender here)! But now we're faced with a bigger problem than the Reapers...

Shepard is going to be given the option to change his/her appearance again!

Baring death and reconstruction again, how do you think Bioware is going to actually make this make sense without seeming forced or cliched? Or is black/blonde/goatee/shaggy haired/blue eyed Shepard suddenly going to wake up to find themselves white/green eyed/gel banged/five o'clock shadowed (purple make up for the femshep)/brown haired a few weeks after catching some kind of funky galactic STD from their ME2 love interest? If this is the case, Shepard is going to have to have a talk with Mordin for forgetting to check for that.

While we're at it, is the Normandy going to go under repairs and become THREE TIMES as big? With a potential of 18 squad members?  Obviously the Collectors were bad news compared to the geth, so it makes sense to add twice as many squad mates. Another six will do when dealing with the biggest threat ever, the Reapers!

In any case, if when they rebuild the new Normandy, my space hamster better get his damn wheel and tunnel cage and my fish one of those bubble-making treasure chests. And I want a hot tub in my cabin. I'm saving the galaxy, I want some luxuries here! And a rec lounge for the crew. I can't have Grunt keep breaking windows out of boredom, and I want to give Garrus' OCD calibrations a chance to unwind somewhere where the crew can bond. And promote Mess Sergeant Gardner to be a bartender.

What do YOU think is going to happen to Shepard and the Normandy in ME3?

You probably won't be able to change your face. I think they won't do another whole reset again like in ME2.

I doubt that. I think they'll give the option - somehow - to allow people to tinker with new settings, or maybe they just weren't satisfied with their last appearance when they discovered in game is a bit different than the customization screen. I'm just not sure how they'll do it if they tie it into the plot.

welcome to Dr. Chakwas' Cosmetic Surgery lab of the Normandy SR3. (she plasticized herself 40 years younger just for you)
