ok well i was just exploring and having fun at the beggining of the game
leveling up to make story mode easier i try and do so with every RPG
well b4 doing story mode i go in genitivis home located in Denerim and i
kill the mage gaurding the door i take everything in the house well i
keep going and then start story mode when i go on through the quest in
story mode i get to the magi quest get the magi to help the sick kings
son i finish that then i need the ashes for the sick king i go to
denerim and go back to the house nothing there but the dead body of the
real weylon and the quest icon says i need to be in that house i search
everywhere many times for what im suppose to do and there is nothing i
look in inventory i already have the ashes pouch so i go to the king and
still they say i need to retreave the ashes i go back to denerim over
and over i search for what to do it wont let me go on with the quest i
am in the house(genitivis home} with the quest icon....nothing i guess i
wasnt suppose to kill that mage yet or what is going on can anyone help
me or am i the only one with this problem the game is at a stand still
and in order for me to go back to the point where i killed the mage i
would have to do about 4-5 hours game play all over please help ../../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png

Sounds like the flag for picking up the ashes didn't trigger because you didn't have the quest, so most likely you'll have to load a save from before you got them to fix the problem. Sucks but thats likely the only fix.

Just go to the tavern at the dock for the Mage's Tower. Lake Calenhad I think? The Waylon impersonator should have told you that but the barman can give you the next quest location. On your toes, crazed cultists inbound! That marker is some kind of glitch, it will stay lit up for the rest of the game.
