My editor is extremely dark.  Is it possible to change the default lighting in the level editor to make it easier to see?  I can't seem to find anyway to do that.

You have a few options here. You can either work within your real lighting scenario or you can artificially make things brighter. The only caveat with the latter is if you work outside of your true lighting then things might not look they way you expected once you turn the lighting back on.

If you want to work with your real lighting, then make sure the Display Lightmaps (LM), buffer effect, and atmospheric settings are turned on. Make sure the "View models fully lit" icon is turned off. To change the atmospheric settings for your layout, you do that from the "Exportable Area Properties" box.

If you just want to workout outside of your real lighting, turn off the Display Lightmaps, atmospheric, and buffer effect settings and enable the "View Models Fully Lit" option.

I don't have the toolset in front of me, so my terminology might be a bit off here. Basically, you need to create an exportable area. On the toolbar there should be a "+" button. Click it and a window will pop up. On that new window, there should be a define area button. When you click it, you should see a green wireframe appear on your level. Click and drag within the green box until it fills the entire area. You also will need to name the area so that you can close the window. After you do this, the area should be lit up much better.
