In my opinion no RTS should be made for the consoles. I loved HaloWars and SupremeCommander, but dumbing it down for the console takes aways from the game's potential.

At anyrate if Bioware made a Mass Effect RTS it should be called Supreme Shepard. Kind of a call out to SUPCOM and the title would stand out and also be a joke too.

That said, I think a major part of the game should be space combat.

And for the Reapers I think of course building a fleet of Reapers would be unfair so i suggest:

Land Wise: Heritic Geth, Husks, and Collectors are your units.

Space Wise: Your light (and cheap) space craft would be Geth, and while you progress through the teirs you will gain access to higher end Geth Dreadnaughts and the not as Powerfull Reaper ships. While for the big bucks you can spend you credits to purchase Reaper Dreadnaughts (like sovereign).

What say you?

The job recruitment says "multiple hardware platforms", so if that job is for an RTS, we'll likely see it on the console as well.

It might end up like Starcraft, where the PC version of the game is awesome, but the console version is horrid.

EDIT: Also, Shepard-Commander is still the best name for it (as in my original post).

:wizard:

My bad i meant Shepard Commander, not Supreme Shepard. lol

Personally I hope they make a Mass Effect game, like Star Wars empire at war......god such potential for modding....and without it I still would buy it in a flash. So kool, to have dreadnoughts rain fire on a base planetside.....

BUT NO, make The current mass effect into 4 games with sheppherd storyline!!!!! :P

The Old Republic? Yes, it's an MMORPG.

However, that is BioWare Austin's game, not BioWare Montreal. Plus the report said "Mass Effect franchise".

The thing with modding is that it often corrupts saves wich means games in the Shepard storyline should avoid them. Though I agree that it would be great to see what the modders wild imagination could do with ME.

So I think any ME games after ME3 should be free from the ME1 to ME3 storyline and saves. Perhaps it's time for a turian hero to save the galaxy next time?

At the OP, wouldn't it kind of make more sense for them to develop a game more in the Dungeon SIege 1 or Dawn of War 2 variety than lets say Command and Conquer or Supreme Commander?

Especially since this seems to be where some strategy games are exploring, even types like Company of Heroes or World in Conflict.

Exploring - sure - but still imitating what Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander or Starcraft is. It's a successful template in terms of replay value and gameplay.

And I'm sure BioWare is trying to cover all genres of games, not just single-player RPG.

I want a game more along the lines of Homeworld. Only, you know, multiplayer. But at least a game that tries to develop space combat in a three dimensional space. I guess that falls under the category of space combat simulation as well, which is a genre that could do with a nice revival.

I know i know. It is simple. you have a mod that is for different things.

Take Satar wars empire at war, since is the prime example.

I got the Force of corruption expansion.

I got the Return of the Clones mod.

And Republic at war mod.

When I want to play the 1st, I just have a backup copy of the original file, copy passte, takes 5 minutes plus or minus the mod of my pc :P. And I play original storyline. I wana play Return of the clones, I copy save the file back over the Force of Corruption. And blam there you go.

What I most do is, install original, copy and save a duplicate fo the original file. Then install a mod, and save that mod too, so whenever you wana play any of the saves from different codes you just copy paste and your ready to go, doesn't corrupt anything because saves are kept in different folders.

Apparently shifty looking cows invaded Bioware with intention to drain our moneys...

And where moneys are is no place for sentiments so when rEApers decide that ME franchise can become golden egg chicken they will exploit that opportunity to the border of sanity...

You could say that about Knights of the Old Republic and the Old Republic MMORPG, but that doesn't mean the game or the series is going to be 'ruined'.

They're not going to extend Shepard's story past the 3rd. However, the Mass Effect universe lends itself to becoming an RTS game.

An RTS game after Mass Effect 3 is still better than no game after Mass Effect 3.

Just because they hired a multiplayer guy doesn't mean they're making an RTS.

Perhaps they'll make a multiplayer mode for ME3, or a co-op mode for some missions.

Let's not all assume the worst and think Shepard Commander will be gracing the shelves of our favorite game stores in 2013

Well, people are forecasting multiplayer mode for ME3 as the end of the world, because of the possibility of taking attention away from the single-player campaign of ME3. ME3 multiplayer would be assuming the worst.

Again, if they wanted multiplayer for ME3, they would have started hiring before development started. The hiring ad refers to the "Mass Effect franchise", suggesting that they may start development on more than just one game dealing with Mass Effect. EA has also been hinting at something "far-reaching" - multiplayer mode is neither far-reaching or original for a shooter RPG. The ad also says this:

"Work with databases that allow for chat rooms, client/server games, player matching, player stats, etc."

You're more likely to find all those things in an online multiplayer RTS (especially the chat rooms, since most FPS games just use voice chat or a very rudimentary chat bar). Blizzard's Battle.Net has had those options for at least a decade now, and are setting up for the release of Starcraft II.

BioWare is intentionally trying to compete with Blizzard in every genre.

The ME Universe has great potential for a Space-based RTS. *In Rodam Expeditions Voice* Imagine...You just scanned for enough Eezo to build the Tantalus drive core on your Normandy Generation Frigates when...BOOM, Terra Nova just blew up because of Balok. It turns out that the terminus systyms funded the attack.

In Retaliation the Council decides to send in a SpecTRe onboard the Normandy Generation ship you just built into Omega. You get there about 5 Game days, FTL travel is slow in galactic standards, and see this massive colalition of Blood pack, Eclipse, and Blue suns merc ships bombarding several smaller Aria T'loak ships. You send the spectre via Eva pack, using his special "infiltrate ability", to sabatoge the engines on Tarak's son's ship. Then ,"after the ability recharges", you plant evidence on Shisk's ship that "some random Eclipse salarin with former STG training did it" causing a civil war between the factions. [council tactics vary, depend on events in previous me games]

Mission completed the Normandy Generation Frigate retreats, mainly due to it's heat emmiters were building up." I want this feature in my space combat please". With the civil war making the Terminus systems instable, (again) The Council invades and taks over parts of the TS. Unfortunatly they decided to blow up omega with some of the Migrant fleet refueling there after establishing consensus with the true geth, Or taking it over in war. This results in war with the quarian and/or true geth. [commando quarians, with largest starting fleet; if united with geth, horde tactics with "disposable fleet"]

Meanwhile in another system, Wrex (if he lived) is assassinated by a rival clan, and the new member proposes an alliance with the Rachni rebellion(if the queen lived). They then decide to conquer the galaxy. If Mordin developed the cure to the genophage you will be attacked by a horde of weaker krogan and rachni swarm. If the Genophage was not fixed, you will be attacked by Strong tank-like krogan with varren and rachni. If Wrex died on virmire, Wreave decided to kill the rachni, (if they lived) but still attacks the galaxy with the same genophage conditions as before.

With the merc groups battered, the shadow broker (if you failed to help Liara in ME2) buys them out. With the sole purpose of taking over the galaxy for the Reapers, (he was working or them, he was going to sell The Commander's body to the Collecters). If he captures the Citedel, the Reapers arrive ending the game.[weakest units, high credit account]

Things I want in this game
* Avialble for 360
* Heat generation in starships, depend on location
* Gravity influencing ships
* Import of triliogy influencing events in rts, default version of courseImage IPB

Of course hireing a multiplayer techy dos'nt mean RTS, where just speculating.

That said, one of the reason I hated Empire at War was the modding, it kind of destroys the game where you have every which version mismatched. Sure community maps are cool and stuff but the modding done for EaW is over the top.

That said for space combat, it does need a Z Axis along with the X and Y. Back in the 2000s there was a Demo I played for a game called ORB (Off-World Recourse Base) the demo had it's lame spots but the one thing they mastered was space combat because of the Z axis it was the best.

As for Mass Effect 3, see that it will mostly likely by late 2011. I don't think they would bother with multiplayer. In addition I asked Chris Priestly about the concept of multiplayer and he said "The Mass Effect trilogy is a single player experience". (Parapharasing) What would be more likely is coop. Another player's Shepard takes the place of a squadmember so you would have your Shep, the guest's Shep and you Squadmate bringing hell to the Reaper armada.

You know what always make awesome boss fights? A boxing match like Assassin's Creed 2!

What dev would you guys want to do this?

Alot of people here seem to know blizzard. Most likely it would be the EA C&C team though.

My vote goes to relic though.

Relic is a wholly owned subsidiary of THQ games, which is in competition with EA which is also in competition with Activision Blizzard.

BioWare is EA's MMO/RPG division, so I doubt BioWare would be 'responsible' for it's development, although someone like Casey Hudson might be sent over to Montreal periodically to be the producer for the game or supervisor (although that person might be more likely to be Mac Walters? Didn't Mac actually design the game? As in, thought it up in the first place?)

As long as the devs do the ME RTS with the respect it deserves, I don't really care who makes it tbh.
