Which female character do you think is the biggest damsel in distress? (both ME1 and ME2)

Mansel, I guess, but very, very close.

And that is why I appreciate Kaidan.

As for the females, I'm going to agree with Shiala and Kelly. I know, I know, ragging on Kelly is a very popular thing to do, but she's a psychologist and not exactly trained in self-defense, and the first few things she tells you is the equivalent of "I know you'll save me! [/puppydog eyes]". It's not her fault, but she just ends up being in a position where she can't fight back and has to hope that Shepard will save her because no one else bloody knows.

Tali was out there fighting. From TV Tropes:

A character, usually female, is portrayed as helpless and in danger in order to put the cast in motion. In particular, the
cast is unified, putting aside differences in pursuit of the rescue.

This works especially well if the distressed damsel is a beloved character.

Doesn't work as well if the audience has grown annoyed by the character and doesn't mind her dying (basically all of Lana Lang's appearances as Victim of the Week on Smallville. Easily becomes Narm if the character is someone who has been previously shown to be anything but helpless.

Don't expect her to do anything to aid her own escape, either. Quite the contrary: the existence of a Damsel In Distress often precipitates a Dulcinea Effect. (And don't
expect anyone to give her any slack on this, even if the poor girl
would logically *not* have the skills or abilities needed to help.
) Some damsels do try to talk back or plan their escape, but this is still rare - and it doesn't usually work.

Important parts bolded. Tali is not portrayed as helpless, she is in need of help. There is a huge difference. The former suggests that she can't do anything to help herself - which was never even implied in the game - while the latter suggests that her situation would improve with help though she is actively trying to help herself already. It puts the cast in motion, but let's face it, you rescue a lot of people in ME2 because you goddamn Shepard.

In the back alley in ME1, she realized what she was walking into and could have probably escaped if it wasn't a mechanic to get you to her and, thus, her data. In Freedom's Progress, they probably would have tried a different approach if Shepard hadn't been there and either snuck past or done something else; plus, Prazza's an idiot. You can't blame her for the actions of someone else. She was doing what she was supposed to be doing.

On Haelstrom, she's there to get data. In her mission, according to what she says, losing people was acceptable for the value of the data (or, more precisely, it better have been; the Admiralty shenaniganed them into that situation). She fights, and she keeps to the mission.

If she were a damsel, she'd have gotten herself captured by geth or would be huddling somewhere with her shields burning out, chanting "I know Shepard will save me, you geth bullies!" while her team got killed and you'd have to rescue her and get her data.

Even though I think this was initially just a sarcastic post, I'm going to quote this too, simply because based on the definitions some people are using to define a DiD, Shep also fits the bill.

Imo, the only real DiD's were Kelly, Chakwas, any of the crew we rescued from the Collector abduction.  Totally incapable and unable of getting themselves out of their situation.

Liara on Therum is up there too, but considering the facts still difficult to truly label her as a DiD.

Tali for me, is a grey area also.  In over her head maybe.
