NOT Romancing Ashley

In the convo about kissing Turians : I didn't say "LOL Kiss me?"
In the convo about God : I said "I don't mind your faith." not "LOL I LUV GOD TOO."
When talking to Liara about relationships : I said I was NOT interested in Ashley OR Liara.
...
Later, talking to her after the third main-story planet before Virmire, she goes off about her grandfather and crap, and at the end I can't choose any option that says "No, I'm not interested." I'm FORCED to express interest in her.
Is this how it's supposed to work, or what?
WAT DO!?!?

Why not romance her then kill her on virmire? Talk about the ultimate breakup.
Ashley, I know this isn't the best time for this, but I think we should see other people. Well, I should see other people. You won't be seeing anybody. Toodles.

I think with Ashley, I might have said early on something about how I could see why she got all the crap assignments. Which was a harsher response than I thought it would be when I chose it. She wanted to keep it strictly professional after that.

Unless she comes back in ME3.

You need to turn the Ash romance off early or you won't be able to at all (at least in my games). The surefire way to turn it off is to say "You're out of line" in one of the first two conversations when she's questioning whether it's cool to have aliens on the ship. Shep actually says something like "Do you always second guess your superiors like this" which makes it clear to Ash that there will be no non-professional relationship between them.
But what if I want to be a guy and just be friends? Like the OP I have my reasons for not wanting to romance Ashley, but I also really like her character and cutting her off with the professionalism line seems like overkill.
Obviously there is nothing to be done about it now, as I already had the grandfather talk after which I realized that despite my never expressing any interest, there was no way to explicitly turn down romantic overtures and be a nice guy at the same time.

This romantic thing should be very optional in games but Both Ashley and Kaydan are always harassing Sheppard with their obsession. They obviously never went in the army for real to ignore how to address a superior. The only way I found is to ignore them completely and never engage conversation. They have nothing interesting to say, anyway.
I hope this comment was sarcastic, you do realise that your avatar is Ashley dont you?

Not if she comes back in ME3 as robo-Ash (robo-**** more like), like Shepard, in order to "please" the fans.
I actually liked her character though, just like poking fun.

Don't worry, she'll still become friends with you. You'll hear all the same stories you otherwise would The only difference is that you can't turn her paragon and when you overhear the call from her sister, the sister will comment that Kaidan is cute instead of Shepard. Also, this early path is the least jerky of an option. I do it on all my playthroughs where I want Ash as a friend and don't intend to kill her on Virmire.
