*I've bolded my two questions, for those who don't like to read.*

Alright, I'm going through my Insanity playthrough right now and just finished up the Reaper IFF mission, which turned out to be very fun, especially after the collector base mission. :pinched:

Now, I'm planning on this being just a bare bones playthrough, doing only what's necessary and *hopefully* getting Shepard killed at the end of the game. Now, I'm currently waiting on the crew to install the IFF, so one of my questions is: What is the exact number of missions I have to complete after the Reaper IFF mission before the IFF is installed and I can progress through the story?

Now, I've also read somewhere on these forums that it is literally impossible for Shepard to die at the end of the game if you have all 11 characters recruited (I have 10, gave Legion to TIM. It was sad :(). This would make sense because I have also heard on these forums that every single squad mate must be dead in order for nobody to pick you up when you're hanging off the side of the Normandy, and I don't believe there are 10 parts of the final mission where teammates can kick the bucket. So, two other questions are: Does every squad mate have to be dead in order for Shepard to die, and is it possible to kill 10 squad mates throughout the suicide mission?

Thanks for any help!

3 during space battle 1 during vents/closing door thing 1 biotic bubble, 1 escort, 2 get crushed, 2 can die "holding the line" that adds up to 10

I'll answer these as best I can but.. For question one, if you don't have any loyalty missions active, the install usually happens right away. If you activated or have some left, it will usually let you do 1-2.

For question two, you can recruit everyone and kill them all off. Its not impossible. If you don't upgrade your ship, 3 people die before you even get there. Pick the wrong people for the spots, and they'll die.

You should read this thread:

It pretty much has all the info you want on killing people off.

But if you're not aware, if Shepard dies, you can't import him to ME3.

I think it's 2 missions (maybe 3) before the IFF is installed.

Also, if you need to do loyalty missions you can fail Thane's (lose the guy or fail the interrogation), Tali (give evidence to board), Samara's (fail to impress Morinth), and Zaeeds (save refinery, but don't use charm at final part).

And I think you should have not let Grunt out of his tank, that would help.

If you can make it so that only 1 squadmate survives, Shepard will still die.

The least Shepard can survive with is 2 (which I have a whole thread dedicated to that Shanra linked).

This may just be intuition, but I'm pretty sure the 'hold the line' characters get more resilient as a whole the fewer there are. It's very tough to kill everyone off in the final mission unless you select the right characters so that the entire 'hold the line' team dies along with everyone else. The best way is to reduce the number of characters as much as possible so that only one non-loyal is left holding the line. With 2 non-loyals with you to fight the boss, everyone should die.

I know that. This is my fourth playthrough, and one I'm not planning on importing.

I was originally planning on not letting Grunt out, but he's invaluable when it comes to husks. He can last much longer against them compared to any other squad mate, and his charge is really powerful.

If you want to kill Shep, simply take to unloyal team members with you to the final boss fight, if one of them is loyal and survives Shepard will probably also survive, I don't think it really matters how many are still alive holding the line.

The trick is keeping the two unloyal party members alive to the end.

I've had non-loyal Zaeed and non-loyal Samara both survive holding the line.

Implications unpleasant.
