So 3 of my party are down and my main character gets away...but it won't let me ever get out of combat to regen up, even though the enemies don't chase me...is this a bug?

I would guess that as long as even a dead party member is near a hostile, that you will remain in "combat"

The game seems to treat dead party members more like they were just frozen until the end of combat.

I have been able to get far enough away from some creatures to exit "combat mode" before, but I've never tried it where anyone died near a hostile

Yes, it works like this. You can't go out from combat while enemies are still alive and any party members are dead.

I don't think so I've ran away before and they just came back to life and followed me.

It´s not possible to run from battle. I´ve played this game numerous times now, and I was never able to run from battle in that way. Sure I could run from the enemies, but they would just chase me down as much as they could.

Your main character can escape the battle, but for the game the combat is still active while enemies are alive. When you enter a new area, however, you have the party members again. At least that´s what I remember...it's been a while.

This game was designed in a way that either the enemy team got wiped out or your team got wiped out. However, I don't think you could enter a new area while in combat.

P.S. I could be wrong though... it's been a long time.

It works in Inquisition but not origins. I just pulled Morrigan out of a fight and ran while the other party members were slaughtered . She ran far from the enemies and they stopped following her. I cannot leave the zone or revive party members, but it let me level 2 of them up even though they were dead, lol.

"Run away live to fight another day" does not apply to Dragon Age:Origins .

Never mind . I kept running down different paths and eventually the other party members got up and rejoined Morrigan. win!!

You have to run far enough away so that they enemies disappear off the radar. Or close a door on them, making that area of the map go dark.

I've never tried it in DAO,but in DA2 if your companions are down and you ran away from battle, your companions drop from sky near your position.

I have only gone through DA:O once, doing several battles more than once to see what was possible. But, I am almost certain a party member can run from a battle. If the character gets far enough away that the enemies are no longer on the mini-map for a minute and no other party members are fighting, then combat music can stop. I don't recall if I have seen fallen members auto-revive and port to the controlled character or to if it is possible to sneak back (if the escaped toon has stealth) close enough to revive the fallen member. But, drawing enemies far enough away from your fallen comrades that combat doesn't restart when you come back to them may be key to this. Of course, some characters will be better at this than others (stealthers, mages making good use of glyphs, etc.) and there are plenty of maps where it may not be possible to get far enough away.

You have to get out of sight (which can be difficult), usually with Stealth to exit combat mode.
You will have to leave the current area to regain your companions (they reappear when you arrive at the new location).
Sometimes the game will glitch, and you cant exit combat mode despite everything you try..
DAO really is designed for total victory: yours or your enemies
Better to reload a previous save: you remembered to save often right?
