 I bought ME1 through Steam, and run the game through their client.

Every time I start up the game, it says "Saving Content" right before the main menu. All of the settings (tutorials on, video grain, etc.) are all as I had them on my first play through (which I finished,) despite having changed them in the previous session.  Choosing "Resume" also opens my last save before the completing the game on my first campaign, rather than my newest character's most recent save.

That was a minor annoyance. However, now the video is cropped so that ~1 inch is missing/extending beyond my monitor on each side, and I cannot change the resolution settings, even temporarily in game. I have tried changing them from the main menu, from the options menu in the launcher (not launching through steam,) and in the configuration tool.

I have given both Steam and the launcher all security permissions. I recently replaced my analog connector with a DVI cable, but have not had any problems with video cropping in other games.

Any thoughts?

I've got the same problem, every time I start the game it resets the video settings and erases all my achievements. Running as admin on win7 through Steam.

Found the solution: Apparently the profile.masseffectprofile file in the "Save" folder was corrupt. Deleted it, started up the game so it would create a new one and that new file works like a charm.
