So, how can there be any natural resources left in the galaxy, when there has been so many intelligent space faring races before current setting grown and wiped out.  I'm guessing every available resource should be emptied by now.

And furthermore - should Reapers clean every intelligent race in ME3, how could the next cycle begin without future races able to contain, like, any element zero?

Did scan every planet on mass effect 2.

It turns out Reapers excrete Iridium.

Because mining for resources isn't as quick and easy as it is in ME2, and "depleting a planet of resources" obviously can't be done by a single ship regardless of how many probes it has. It's a game-play mechanic, not a canonical story element.

Obviously if you mined a whole gorram planet, you would have all the Iridium, Platinum and Palladium you could ever need. You wouldn't be able to fit it on a ship.

what got me was when in a planets description it would say it was a gas giant with a gravity well far too big for mining projects to be viable, yet i could bounce along in the normandy and probe all the resources i wanted.

I disagree concidering that we (current spacefaring societies), just dump old space ships on that one planet. (no recylcling infrastructure). And it also seems (though again could be mistaken), that most is not all current mining production done in a strip mining action. Few worked deep mines.

The point was not how one ship scanned every planet. There are thousand other ships and mining companies doing just the same, and has been doing that for every cycle.

Obviously, the resources will deplete in some point, making every cycle-races less challengeable against reapers.

I wondered about this too however it could work both ways. Due to the larger gravity well the planets might have a bit of reclaimable metals in high orbit like in a loose ring of meteors and astroids etc.

Agreed one further point needs to be concidered namely that only 1% of galaxy has been scanned this culling cycle.
