Gay... I played ME1 about 6 months ago, and since then I've installed lots of new drivers for my ATI 4770. I can play ME2 easily with vsync and 1980x1080.
ME1 is problematic.. Apparantly the game doesn't like new drivers. On the first mission on Eden Prime I got ridiculous 10 FPS (as well as some minor lag before that as well). For me this is unplayable. Is there any fix for this?
Sepcs:
AMD Phenom II X4.
ATI 4770.
4GB DDR2 Ram.
500GB HDD.
After installing new GPU drivers I got some serious lag issue

Those drivers are 6 months old.
Ya I just cleared the fans of my PC, it runs better now. Still lags as hell, but it runs. I just found out that my CPU maxed out at 90 degree celcius. I guess the soulution here is to clean up my PC and CPU fans from dust.

Having similar problems, and I'm seeing the exact same description of symptoms in forums all across the internet - and all within the last 3 months, like some bloody plague. I played through ME1 two years ago, with great performance, now doing so again with the same rig and pfftthht. I'm glad a dust-clearing helped your fps, but unless there's been a sudden outbreak of dust across the world, there seems to be more here. May I ask, what drivers were you using last time you played? I think this is probably an issue with the newer drive generation.

Cleaning up my PC of dust and such helped allot.
