If however, you wish to play a soldier without using Adrenaline Rush for some reason, like the above poster, I suppose this is a way to go.   And like I said, whatever works for you is great.

Yes, that's what I ment. This build is for non AR players. I'm neutral on it. Any new experience is good ;)

Why Tungsten ammo is so often recommendable ? There is no point using the Cryo ammo at all. [/quote]

Highest Burst damage potential against the two things in the game that will absorb most of your bullets, and useful against the enemies that occupy the most dangerous sections of the game. Shields and barriers go down quickly under assault rifle fire in any event, if not instantly stripped by powers. Revanent plus Tungsten is a buzzsaw.

Squad Cryo is great (though I wouldnt take it  for a soldier over Area Reave or Tungsten ammo...its just an example of something else that would be better than Geth Shield Boost, Barrier, or Fortification. ) Assign squad cryo to your teammates, while you use your High Damage Ammo (either Inferno or AP). Enemies randomly freeze are a fairly high rate all over the field setting up insta kills, and reducing incoming fire. Good against Husk swarms.

I'm usually using Inferno on most enemies (disruptor on Geth, and strong Shields). I'm going to try Tungsten ammo today. Husk swarms... It's good to shoot them in their  lower stomach. You need to fire twice or trice and they're done (they loose legs) with a Shotgun or one shoot with Mantis or Widow ;) That makes Cryo ammo useless to me. I don't like Revnant though. This gun has definetly too big recoil with or without upgrade. Fortunatly it's damage is satisfying.

No, you misunderstand me. Cryo ammo is not for you, it is for your squad for support fire.  You are able to assign squad cryo ammo to your squad, then activate Inferno or Tungsten for yourself, and your squad will keep the Cryo.  Again, not saying Id take that over Area Reave or Tungsten, but Id definitely take it over GSB, as it is quite useful all the time.  But then again, I use Adrenaline Rush...if Im not going to use that, I'd be playing a different  class.

The Revanent is designed to be used with AR, as that mitigates the kickback. So if you are playing a soldier wityhout AR for some reason, it would probably be a bit tougher.  Seriously though, its not tough to use once you get the accuracy upgrade.  Dont hold the trigger down, pulse it... unless at close range, in which case it doesnt matter.   Regardless, its got a big clip and plenty of ammo, and even if you miss with half the shots, there wont be anythign left standing.

I actually picked Heightened and thought that's what everyone else was using... seems I'm wrong. So, my quick thoughts: With Heightened I actually can walk out of cover (yes, walk... stroll... skip, if you will) and shoot while strafing enemy fire. It's pretty cool.

Hardened helps on the defense as well, and deals more damage, since you get more shots with that spiffy +100% bonus compared to heightened.

Hightened is still better from  a pure damage point of view since some bullets will miss with all those extra bursts. And with the sniper it is superior. It also provides better survivabilty when moving from cover to cover ironically enough.

I know how to shoot overall ;) and simply I don't like Revnant. Widow is more useful for me(Harbinger, Reaper larva, preatorian ). I like to shoot precisely, without missing. As well it happens for everyone. Indeed you're right about Cryo for Squad (I have thought it was for me ;p). I didn't even know I could equip a squad with an ammo power and then select ammo power for myself. But then I'm loosing points for my other powers. So there is an alternative: Grunt or Garrus squad ammo ;) In fact I greatly enjoy Insanity everytime I play it ;)
About AR, I'm using it to change my position during firefight or to take down quickly some hard enemy (like: krogan, fenris, heavy mech, geth prime, thresher maw, a human-reaper larva[after i shoot cain once] and preatorian). So far, AP is useful ;) I just wonder, GPR is really weak... but with Tungsten ammo it might deal as much kick as Avenger with inferno or at least incendiary lev3. Have you tried that before ?

Don't need AR or Widow for Praetorian. The thing is so big, you can go full auto on it with a Revenant at medium range and not miss a single shot. Harbinger isn't so tough that you can't just go up to it at short range, open up with a Revenant and take it down relatively easily.

Spyndel:

Didn't have that many problems using Revenant without AR. It has a tendency to drift up, but it's easy to just drift down your aim once you're used to it. Pulsing the thing does more for the aim than AR, I found.

In any case, I just found AR much too powerful. The only real challenge for Soldier is aiming and shooting. Put AR in and it's not even much of a challenge then. But who am I to speak? I haven't even finished my Hardcore playthrough of Soldier. Even with Reave, I found myself wanting to use effects more than my Revenant, and if I wanted to do that, I might as well play with an effects class, which I do.

Soldiers will require more '3rd person shooting' than other class. You need to take note of the time when enemies reload and get them during this time. Either get your squad to mow down the barriers or you do it. Then get the other one to do killing shots. Because you can't spam powers with soldiers...you need to be more careful than the other classes. They can kill behind cover but soldiers can't.

I only use Widow to take out Preatorians powerful biotic barrier. After that I have fun with Assault Rifle or Predator pistol or shotgun ;)

Er... ...I think you're doing it the wrong way around. The Assault Rifles are better against Barriers. You ought to be using the Widow against the Armor. You can do whatever you like, of course. Just sayin'.

I know what you mean. I make the fight harder with preatorian (it's too slow, even without AR).
I wont say im good or something but I've finished the game 7 times on insanity already... so it's just fun to me.

What loyalty power would be good for a soldier on insanity?

soldier is very easy once you're upgraded. It's sort of like playing MW2 on normal mode. Problem is you'll be using cover and ducking a lot, so it's not as fast-paced as MW2.

I do agree though that soldier could be harder without upgrades. For some reason on my first playthrough of mass 2 I neglected getting upgrades for my AR, and health, etc... so I noticed wasn't killing fast when I hit the collector ship (also didn't help that I had no idea when the forced missions occurred etc...) so yeah the platform battle was a bit tough with a poorly picked squad, no upgrades, maybe tried 4 reloads -- but once you upgrade the soldier is a breeze, esp with the Revenant AR.

I think I have faster killing speed with vanguard earlier on in the game, but as I'm progressing with Vanguard, I'm starting to appreciate that soldier unlike vanguard doesn't need all the upgrades in the right order to be effective. You also don't have to worry as much about positioning. Soldier all I'm worried about is whether there's a crate in between the target and me - then it's gg. And yeah I agree, sometimes the battles are a bit too prolonged with use of HAR when could have just AR'ed it up, but I think sometimes it's a bit tempting to be "safe than sorry" with such an easy panic button.

Warp Ammo maybee. You whant to use Adrenaline Rush as much as possible so anything else distrubing your cooldown is bad. You can always neglect the loyalty power all togheter and aim for your soldier ones. Do a respec later in the game for a extra point to use.

How could you beat the other classes on Ins, and then struggle w/ a soldier?

Its a cake walk. Maybe its b/c I played a NG+ infiltrator first, but my current soldier play through is simple, I had to check a few times to make sure it was still on insanity.

I've played through insanity with the soldier and infiltrator and am currently in the middle of a vanguard run. The soldier is the easiest. It doesn't require tactical thinking nor does it require painstaking thought to select your squad. Bring anyone you want and just let them do their thing. The soldier can kick everyone's ass pretty much by himself. This is especially true if you take the LMG. Heightened or hardened adrenaline rush with the LMG is basically god mode. Unfortunately, I can no longer play as the soldier because I find it boring. I prefer the infiltrator, vanguard and engineer.

What's LMG, I forgot.
