what are some good Adept builds + amps/armor. for insanity?

This is my preferred vanilla build
Pistols - 12
Basic Armor - 5
Throw - 12
Lift - 12
Warp - 12
Singularity - 12
Barrier - 7
Stasis - 12
Bastion - 12
Spectre Training - 6
It's a solid adept, and I rate it over Assault Rifle Adepts for the superior damage. If you haven't played an Adept then absolutely go Bastion first, both for the quicker cool downs and Bastion Stasis. Sniper Bastion is my personal favourite to play but not actually as good.
For amps/armor it's really no contest Savant Amp, Colossus armour which only become available late game and of course Master Spectre weapons. In terms of upgrades 2 x Medical Exoskeleton for the cool down bonus (and the regen is nice) and usually a Rail Extension VII and a Frictionless Material give a good balance of damage upgrades and heat/cool down adjustment.

The build Devos posted is really solid. Another very effective one (that he mentions) is usually.
Armor 3

I'd agree with him that the pistol build will have a little better damage output due to maxed pistol with master marksman. This build will have very slightly more powerful biotics. It also has advanced unity. Both builds are very solid and more than capable of completing insanity.
I'd say his equipment recommendations are just about the best. Earlier on you can buy a set of scorpion IV from the Normandy quartermaster. This is quite a bit better than the onyx you start with and will do until you can get something better. For a starter weapon grab the stinger 2 from the farmers on Eden Prime. (Shed just before you find Nilus) It is a huge improvement over the kessler.
