Dragon Age is a new setting. This is not D&D, so if you played Baldur´s Gate or Never Winter - what many of us did - this is really not the same thing. The Stolen throne help me to understand it better. I hope The calling makes the same.

Definately...it really helps to get into the world..understand why the world is where it is and what's going on.
I read The Stolen Throne when it first came out..and I just started The Calling last night, bout 1/3rd through it...really liking it..and it is clearing a lot of things up and introducing me more to the world and such.

Probably not. I might read them when I'm done though. I like going into a game not really knowing a lot about what's going on.

I already read the stolen throne, which was a good book IMO and I hope I will have read "the Calling" before I get to play the game.
Then once I finished the game, I will surely read the tabletop RPG and the game guide to have a better grasp of the world.

I am reading the Calling now after reading Stolen Throne. All I can say is, if you haven't read the books, you don't know how much you are missing out on. It adds a LOT to the game to have fallen in love with the world in this way. Not only are the novels very well written but characters like Loghain and Maric are really well developed. And since Loghain is in the game as well, knowing 'him' is really great (and boy do I think he is the coolest fantasy dude I have seen in a long time
)
Fantastic introduction to the setting - really missing out if you dont read them.

After reading both, I'll say that it will definitely give me a better experience in game. I'll be much more excited to see some of the familiar characters and locations.

I won't, mostly because I don't have money to import one and I'm saving as much as I can..

I think i might have to check them out. I'm a huge fan of fantasy books. I wonder how they compare to George R.R. Martin or Terry Goodkind..

I really liked The Stolen Throne and I plan to read The Calling once I can get my hands on it. From the first chapter, I can tell it will be an enjoyable read. The information and lore available in both will probably come in handy once the game comes out. A little insight never hurt.

I read The Stolen Throne and currently about 2/3 done with the Calling. They are both worth the read, and will make the game more enjoyable. Having all this extra background about the characters, politics, lore is great. Agree with someone else who posted, Loghain is a great, inspiring, pivotal character in the Stolen Throne. Lets see what the game has in store for him...

I read Stolen Throne as a way to get a feel for the world while I wait for the game. It was ok.. the world is well realized.. but I wish it was in mass market paperback. It wasn't worth the cost of a trade back. The writing itself was mediocre at best and the book cops out with a recap style end chapter like the deadline came up before the book was finished.
So...
As an intro to the Dragon Age setting: B+
As a fantasy novel in its own right C+
I won't be buying any more of his books but I might borrow one from a friend to read if I had to kill some time..
YMMV
