Christina - have you considered making a squad respec patch or something?

Apparently, we're supposed to use glitches for that these days.

This is just somewhat mindboggling, to hear a developer openly stating that there are bugs that they simply won't fix, instead of fixing the issue and introducing a legit way to do the same thing (since people obviously want it).

You totally missed her point though. Cheaters gonna cheat anyways, so why bother patching this, only cheaters exploit this bug.

If you were software engineer you would know that it is impossible to fix all bugs AND keep reasonable budget. It is not worth it. This bug is minor and only cheaters, who would cheat anyways, are gonna exploit it. BioWare should rather focus on much more important shortcomings such as when squad power usage is set off, squadmates still use ammo powers - that can be considered as a game-breaking bug.

I might be missing something but I dont see the problem with not fixing this particular glitch.  Its not as if it is messing up the game and players have to input button commands to activate it.  A player doesnt have to use it.  is it really that much different than when pc users use the command console.

These glitches are just like the Kotor glitches. Bioware leaves them alone. They increase the replay value of the game for the hardcore fans who have complete the game multiple times.

Can you use this to remove talents from the filler talents, like Shockwave for Jack or concussive shot for Garrus?

Its not a bug, if you read the tool tip it even says that ammo usage and defensive powers wont be turned off. Hopefully they change it to: on, defensive, off like it was in ME1.

Actually according to Christina, this bug may or may not cause problems with an ME2 -> ME3 import. So the devs have 2 choices now:
  • Fix the glitch(es) to avoid the potential import problem
  • Neglect the glitch(es) and design around them (i.e. import will simply not take into consideration what powers you have).
Still, to hear from a dev that they may intentionally choose not to fix a bug seems rather unprofessional to me.

Two glitches in one game? Fishy, fishy.

Don't really care about the name change. "Lameo Shepard" has been my main through the whole series thus far.

I doubt it will cause an import problem in ME3. None of your powers carried over from ME1, why should they in ME3?

I'm using this glitch to death. I played with the Sentinel for the first time yesterday (3 playthroughs as a soldier) and it is SO FUN!

So just to be clear this will get all squad mates all powers maxed?

Like others have said before I've already beaten the game multiple times, so this will just add a fun value for me.

It's a bug.

Fixing an error in one spot can very well alter coding somewhere else down the line, creating more bugs.  Just look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  Every time Infinity Ward patched a bug or glitch, people were able to come up with more game breaking glitches due to the patch opening a hole somewhere else.

Sometimes, it's just easier to leave the minor things alone and fix the more important things, like audio cutting out and game/system crashes.

Nice find :-) Hope it doesn't get 'fixed' in a patch without the pre-set points getting removed as well.

We're not planning at this time on fixing these glitches. They were not intended, but it is a single player game, so if you want to use them go ahead.

However - there is no guarantee your Shepard will import correctly to ME3 if you use any glitch.

I agree it doesn't need to be patched since an option to cheat a little if you want isn't really a problem in a single player game.  I just hope you'll inform us a month or two before the release of ME3 if its going to be an issue or not.  The game is a lot of fun so I don't mind replaying it to get a cheat free save; but I want to be sure I have a good save to import on launch day.

Yep, you can max all the squad members and Shepard.  I already beat the game without it; but playing through with a dream team is kind of fun.  Samara and Miranda in particular end up being obscenely powerful if you max everything.

If this invalidates your save for ME3 there will be plenty of people complaining when the time comes. If ME3 just resets your squad points to 51 then it shouldn't be a problem.

Nothing carried over in terms of squad points from ME1 to ME2, so I doubt it will be a problem.

Not really, the bug is still there.

Calling BW "unprofessional" is unfair.

Fixing this glitch would take time. This time would cost those who fund ME2 some money. This money would then be spent on fixing this glitch, instead of making awesome DLC.

Not fixing the glitch is the smart decision.

I'll mention as well since fixing this glitch was discussed.

If we did fix it we'd reset the talent points of Shepard or any squad member who was modified using the glitch. We wouldn't break your Shepard, or ban you, or change your name to "Lameo Shepard" etc.

(but we probably won't fix it)

I would use this glitch just to have the opportunity to rename my character "Lameo."

So can anyone confirm what happens when you respec your shep? Do your points reset to match your level, or are your points always there. I am a little OCD and wouldn't like having tons of points leftover at a high level.

Not entirely sure what you are asking. When you respec you get the same amount of points you would have at that level.

The only way to use all of your points is to completely max 5 abilities and then give one ability one point
