gunplay for defences, throw, flash (yes, it has a long cooldown comparitively but its Awesome) and tech armour. thats all.

That's exactly how I'm going to play my Sentinel when I get back to ME2 in October. The great thing about a build like this is the freedom of choosing any squadmates you like.

Yeah its great, fun build (much better lategame I'll admit, I'm dying a bit in NG+). There is a steep learning curve with flash but once you figure it out its easily one of the most useful bonus powers. you can hit targets no other power can.

I think the sentinel and the infiltrator are great because they're such flexible classes to play with. there are almost limitless ways to make a good, effective build.

How do you think it would work for a non-NG+ playthrough? Which powers would you prioritize?

Non-NG+, just about anything works well - the enemies are scaled down and therefore your lack of upgrades won't be as big a factor, even on Insanity.

Pick Caster or Assault Sentinel and choose powers accordingly.

I'd prioritise passive and tech armour of course - but at the same time try to make sure you get at least one point in throw. flash really excels at higher levels, 1pt its not quite as effective due to the smaller range and shorter incapacitation duration.

You start with 1 point in throw any way on a new character.

How do you all like this sentinel build. I tried to find a medium between a caster and assault sentinel. Basically I went with Raider, assault armor, and there is a dlc visor that increases power regen by 5%. You get the 15% power bonus, survivability of assault armor, and only a -5% power regen you would have recieved from choosing Guardian

The regen visor doesn't work, wear something else unless you just think it looks cool.

10 Heavy Throw

10 Heavy Warp

10 Power Armor

10 Area Overload

0 Cryo Blast

10 Guardian

1 Stasis

This is my Sentinel build. I'm ridiculously obsessive about spending every single point, but I want to work Cryo Blast in there somehow. Any suggestions?

I skipped warp and/or overload (i mean, not maxing it) just for having fun with freezing and throwing enemies all over the map

Yeah you can remove Overload max and just take Garrus since his long range capabilities complement the Sentinel's short range.

That sounds good. Thanks for the advice. One more question, though, if I may. Which of these three setups looks like it makes the most of the class?

10 Heavy Warp
10 Power Armor
6 Overload
6 Cryo Blast
10 Guardian
3 Stasis

6 Throw
10 Heavy Warp
10 Power Armor

3 Throw
10 Heavy Warp
10 Power Armor
6 Overload
6 Cryo Blast
10 Guardian
6 Stasis

10 Heavy Warp
10 Power Armor
6 Overload
3 Cryo Blast
10 Guardian
6 Stasis

Have throw only on level 2, and either Warp or Overload at rank 3. Then you can have enough points for cryo blast.

The only heavy weapon I'll ever use is the Cain. It's too awesome for me not to swear by it.

yeah, you can shoot once in every 3-4 level with the cain :D

just try it man :D it has 30-35 ammo max, its ripping shields/barriers like a dream and keeps opponents frozen for a long time.

Does the Avalanche's cryo bypass enemy defenses?

No, but one or two shots destroys most barriers or shields, and has a nice area effect.

Awesome guide everyone, helped me a lot in the beginning of Insanity Mode!  One question I couldn't find an answer too though is:  which armour varient is best for a Sentinal?  I'm assuming that anything which buffs shields, tech and biotics is key, but which should take priority?

I agree, awesome guide. I decided to choose the Sentinel as my Insanity class - I'm dying much less than as a Vanguard/Hardcore. Gotta love Assault Armor.

I've got a couple vids up with a Sentinel that shows a pretty unothodox build, but it's pretty solid - and extremely fun.

The Avalanche goes through defenses faster than you'd think.  I use it religiously on my Vanguard.

Easy:
1) Buy "Retrain Powers" upgrade
2) Insert all points into available power slots EXCEPT the bonus power.
3) Buy "Advanced Training" upgrade, and purchase Stasis

BAM! All powers are available to you. :)

Ok, I've been taking a break from Engineering up the Terminus Systems with a shotgun, and I've recently tried my hand in a shotgun based Assault Sentinel build for the first time.   Here's a vid of implementing one of the Tech Armor's ability to reset squad mate's power cooldown (double casting both of my comrade's powers - arsonist party run over at Archangel's base):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zv1dtXXL18

Througout the video, observe Zaeed's Inferno Grenade and Mordin's Incinerate after I cast them, followed by the Tech Armor activation (both squadmate's powers are mapped to the Z,X,C hotkeys).

**EDIT original post: Nevermind.  I forgot to read the tech armor description.  :P  Enjoy the video.
