Oh I got through it. I just had to spend alot more time micromanaging my party members. After the first room though, the rest of it was pure tactics.

I found the flamethrower to be a godsend for this first room. When those first two turians come at you (especially the centurian shotgunner) they get stopped dead in their tracks with the firestorm. Try it out

Ah yeah, now that's a good idea. Unfortunately I'm an idiot when it comes to heavy weapons, I forget I even have one until it's time to Caine something.

You will be laughing with evil joy as you burn them to the ground. Vanguards aren't the only ones who get to have fun with the flamethrower. Btw, how did you get your sentinel sig? I would like to incorporate it into mine, as well.

My sentinel just got a shotgun...

PURE OWNAGE.

Now I really just run around with reckless abandon and murder everyone. I don't even use any other skills, I am pretty much playing it exactly like a vanguard and it's awesome.

I think the Scimitar is the most awesome weapon for a Sentinels shotty.

Yeah, the Scimitar is rediculously tailored for Assault sentinel play. Rapid fire close range pellet damage? Yeah, that's rather hard to beat.

Well. I'm a very sad monkey because I've been playing my Sentinel and Engineer on Insanity without the 25% bonus xp. This is why I did Mordin's recruit at L4 when I should have been L5 and this is why I did Jack's Recuit at L9 when I should have been L11-12. I'm not even sure Insanity would be fun without that extra xp bonus. Doable, probably, but it would be frustrating as hell. Gonna have to retire from this game for awhile...very sad.

Ack, how'd you miss out on the bonus? Haven't you played through it at all?

interesting. i love playing sentinel and i have never chosen to use a shotgun. i hadn't even considered it until reading this thread. i am going to grab a shotgun on my current unfinished sentinel just to join the ranks and give it a shot. could scimitar really be as good as vindicator???

If you enjoy getting up in thier faces, yes. Overall, the Vindicator is probably the "optimal" choice. but I'm far too much of a Tempest fan to be bothered with Assault rifles.

I'm not sure whats going on.  I won it on veteran as a Vanguard.  Then I won it on hardcore as an Adept.  And I thought I was getting the bonus xp on the hardcore playthrough because I reached L30 for that playthrough.  But I guess it doesnt work that way.  So I think maybe I started my  Sentinel a few hours before winning on hardcore.

Ok. Well apparently I have a xbox bug so I'm not getting any bonus xp.

So I did Horizen on Insanity with the Sentinel at L10. I used Zaeed(Incendiary grenade, no disruptor pts)and Jacob(1pt pull, squad incendiary). It was the easiest Horizen I've done. Granted I've only done it 3 times now. Once with Vanguard and once with Adept.

So the Sentinel is playing really smoothly on Insanity. I have Jacob and Jack both with squad ammos. So adding Mordin or Miranda to the squad makes Insanity a cakewalk with the Sentinel.

Because I'm on the Xbox and cannot respec my squadmates. I run their loyalty missions with them having like 10 unassigned squad points. That way, when their loyalty power unlocks I can fully spec it.

I have Miranda like with 11pts and her loyalty mission was easy once Jack had squad warp. I did Jacks mission with Jack having a spare 10pts and Jacob having squad incendiary. I have yet to assign points to Grunt and Garrus but when I do it will be so that they instantly get 4 for Fort and 4 for squad ammo. Oh and now I can put 10pts into Miranda to get her Slam 4, but I'm thinking she'd be better with overload or warp.

Next up, Garrus' loyalty mission using Jack followed by Grunt's using Garrus w/ squad AP.

Datacakes - what xbox bug are you talking about? Is it known?

Love this thread. Have been taking my time running my Sentinel thru Insanity, and since I've checked this out, I'll probably do some retraining to try some stuff out. I have on Assault armor, so that pretty much puts me in the Assault build category, even though I vary from the OP a bit. Use Reave mostly, but have traded in for warp ammo. Otherwise I've been evolving team mate's ammo powers to squad and that's just fine. I'm going to try and get Morinth this time around so I can play with Dominate (haven't gotten it yet - just haven't been able to bring myself to do that to Samara!).

Anyway, it's just generally tons of fun. I barely have to use ammo if I don't want to, but sometimes you just get that urge. I'm a sniper lover, so I picked that up on the collector ship. Team mate-wise, I have fun with everyone. It's kind of hard to pick since I have a little bit of every useful power, so most team mates just make it double duty. I usually just go with whoever makes sense on the mission or whomever's company I desire :)

I like to experiment a lot and take the "scenic route" so this run has been good and long, with not too many deaths except if I'm really playing with different stuff, or sometimes just for stupid reasons. Really, I don't think I use Assault Armor to it's full potential. I'm more used to Infiltrator and ranged fighting, but I'm determined to stick it out there and level some husks. I've also use cryo blast the least, but after watching the vids with smashing collectors I'm inspired to use it more.

I'm not sure if it's a known bug but I don't get any bonus xp. I get the 200k credits and the 50k resources but no bonus xp. I was wondering how people where able to get to L13ish for horizon after watching some of their vids. I was only able to get to L10 and I did every quest mission/quest I could find. What's weird is that after my first play through I think I was getting the bonus xp for my Adept on hardcore.

I'm liking the Sentinel a lot. I just turned L17 after finishing the collector ship. For the first time in the insanity run I had a hard time. The platforms on the ship were easy. Coming back was very very hard. I died twice at the praeoritan. I took Mordin(Incinerate-4) and Jack for her warp ammo. Plus I re-specced points out of overload for that mission, picked up area-reave. Now I'm back to having 0 points in the bonus talent cause I thought reave kinda was lack luster. It seems like overall sentinel doesnt need a bonus talent.   I always use at least one squad mate that has ammo powers.

Jack - squad warp
Jacob - squad incendiary
Garrus - gonna make him squad AP

I'm not using Zaeeds ammo because I figure that's what I'm for. To strip shields so I've been building up his incendiary grenade. There's no need for Grunt to have squad incendiary since Jacob has it. And grunt and Jacob are practically the same squadmate to the Sentinel.

Oh and I was going to do Garrus loyalty mission but decided to recruit Tali to get the tempest SMG. I'm not sure if her recruit mission triggers the collector ship or if it is L16 that triggers it.

I was gonna pick up the sniper rifle like you but I figured I'd try shotguns. I had a sniper rifle for my Adept and that was a total blast.

Ok, it's been some time since I posted.  I'm now L29 and have kick started the suicide mission.  I'm still trying to decide who to take through it, but I think maybe Legion and Samara.  I'm trying to figure out a way to spec into AP squad, so I may give up entirely overload and cryo for that.

So my strategy for Sentinel Insanity run has been to let my squad mates enhance my Sentinels guns by giving them squad ammo powers.  Garrus now has AP squad and with Jack and Jacob both with their squad ammo powers I've been able to easily handle any encounter since level 17.  I had to restart the IFF mission because I chose Jack and Garrus using AP for the husks and my shotty for them.  Jack didn't do so well.  So I restarted and chose Mordin.  I had previously spec'd Mordin with area incinerate.  I've also been taking advantage of the respec option and it almost feels like cheating.  So for the IFF mission I took points out of throw and overload and put them into area cryo, also, I slightly cheated and put 1 pt into reave.

So with Garrus and AP squad ammo, and Mordin and his incinerate we made short work of the scions.  The husks were a problem.  Case in point.  At then end in the control room, we could not do enough dps and I was surrounded by like 6-7 husks with their armors up.  Garrus would go down at each wave.  But luckily Mordin survived.  Strategy.  Area Incinerate to strip armor.  Area cryo to freeze.  Scimitar shotgun blasts kill 3-4 at a time combined with Assualt armor blasting off clears em fast.  I'm amazed I survived.  In restrospect I should of chose incendiary grenade instead of reave.

At first I was regretting picking the shotgun, but now I'm liking it.  I've been able to make use of it numerous time and it forces me to get closer to action and push the front lines.  The Dantius bridge for Thane's recruit was epic.  I took Tali (Energy Drain - 4) and Garrus and pushed like 4 people back to the top just before the entrance to Thane.  We had a firefight for several minutes at that spot it was a blast.

Achievment unlocked - 75g Insanity

I widdled away the reaper larva at the end with just my tempest and carnifex. That was hard. Final build.

Throw 2

Unstable Warp 4

Assault Armor 4

Overload 3 - (was gonna try overheating weapons but fights were too fast)

Cryo 1

Guardian 4

Squad AP 4

Suicide Mission:

Part 1 - Legion and Mordin - easy - Tali died! I'm very sad, she was supposed to live!

Part 2 - Mordin and Thane(cause I had to use him once in the game) - easy

Part 3 - Legion and Samara - platforms was easy cause the arc projector on the scion's platform takes out those exploding husks quickly - reaper larva was hard(died once cause I took a hit for harbinger & the reaper at the same time and it popped me off the platform cause I was too close to the edge - critical mission failure - however it was fun falling falling falling)

Overall, the Sentinel is a bad ass class to play. Very fun and is my new fav class.

I find Heavy Warp better on an Assault build because A. your spamming abilities quicker with guardian and B. you have to wait for you teammates to recharge before using the big radius detonation blast anyways. I guess a distant C is its better for close combat melee boxing.

Before doing the suicide run I though maybe I'd take someone along to pull so that I could get the warp detonations but I forgot to use it.  And I had this pie-in-the-sky vision of blasting lots of people.  But the insanity run is just too fast to set anything like that up.

It was mostly warp harbinger until armor exposed, then with mordin, incinerate or without Mordin keep warping.  Notice i took Legion for his combat drone, a great agro magnet for harbinger.  With harbinger distracted I could beat the snot out of the collectors, then cryo, incinerate(with Mordin) or throw or just shotgun blaste em and wait for my armor to explode.

You're correct.  If I were to run again I'd do it with Heavy Warp and take the 3 pts out of overload and put them into throw for more newtons.  The 1 pt in cryo saved me a couple of time from flanking collectors.

I chickened out and took Samara because she has throw and area reave.  It's very fast clearing the platforms when you reave & warp him, busy him with a drone while you take the other two down fast with warp, gunfire and throws.  Then harbinger is in the Red and he is dead.  That's pretty much how the platform battles went.  A couple times with area reave and warp he didnt even appear --- ah now I remember why I took unstable warp.  Area reave and Unstable warp to clear the platforms before Harbinger could appear.

Who has ever heard of a Throw Sentinel?  Well I was practically forced to become one...

So I've decided that the early levels for Sentinels are tough.  Not enough points to make you a full blown tank so you have to play as a caster.  Add the fact that you can't put a good amount of points into both Warp and Overload early on so you have to pick one of the two.

I ended up with:
2  Throw
2  Warp
2  Tech Armor
0  Overload
0  Cryo
1  Defender
1  Bonus

Made Grunt's recruitment mission pretty tough.  Had to focus on casting a lot and since they all had shields I used a lot of Throw just to make it fun.  Here it is.

ME2 - Professor Okeer - Sentinel Insanity

Note:  The video is edited to make it a little more exciting

I found the sentinel very strong in the early game if you go straight for assault armor with 1 point in overload and 1 in defender. Once you have assault armor, max out defender and get the tempest SMG. From there you get area overload, then build however you want.

Hey guys, started out as a Sentinel after finishing the game as a Infiltrator and twice as a Adept.

I've gone through the game twice on Sentinel now, once on normal and once on Insanity. And I'm just loving it.

I chose Assault rifles as my extra weapons training on the Collector ship during the first playthrough and obtained the Geth Pulse Rifle on the Tali's recruitment mission to bolster my combat capability on the second playthrough.

But now I'm looking for more ways to optimize the character.

Any suggestions / tips concerning my build?

Throw: Rank 2

Heavy Warp

Power Armor

Overload: Rank 3

Cryo Blast: Rank 1

Guardian

Enhanced Dominate

- To clarify, I'm more into casting and staying in cover (At least of Hardcore and Insanity).

So thats why I chose the Power Armor and the more evolved cooldown reduction.

- I also found out how amazingly useful Dominate actually is. As a Sentinel and Miranda always backing me up, I can blast through any protection of any normal enemy in a heart beat and then instantly Dominating them to use as a distraction whilst me and my team take out the other (and most probably the bigger) bad guys.

- It's also very useful to give you some breathing time if you are low on health or shields.

So, any pointers?
